Have to love this: Two Zag recruits on USA Today Top 25 teams, Bishop Gorman #19 and Simeon #16: Link (http://usatodayhss.com/2015/super-25-in-25-preseason-super-25-boys-basketball-rankings)

No. 19: BISHOP GORMAN

Location: Las Vegas

2014-15 record: 27-6

Final Super 25: Not ranked

The Gaels lost All-American 7-footers Chase Jeter (Duke) and Stephen Zimmerman (UNLV) to graduation but 6-11 senior center Zach Collins, a Gonzaga commit, played well over the summer and junior wing Charles O’Bannon Jr. (8.5 ppg, 3.5 rpg,2.4 apg) made the U16 National Team.

Gorman also picked up a solid transfer in former Lone Peak (HIghland, Utah) point guard Christian Popoola Jr. (14 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 6.0 apg), a 6-3 junior.

Keep an eye on sophomore small forward Jamal Bey as well.

Scheduled season opener: Nov. 21, at Clark (Las Vegas)

No. 16: SIMEON

Location: Chicago

2014-2015 record: 28-4

Final Super 25: Not ranked

The Wolverines have plenty of returnees, led by Gonzaga commit Zach Norvell (13 ppg), a 6-4 senior guard, who scored 53 points in a tournament in Las Vegas this summer.

Some of the top players back include: 6-7 senior forward Ben Coupet; senior shooting guard Josh Thomas; junior point guard Evan Gilyard and sophomore guard Kezo Brown, who saw significant minutes as a freshman.

This might be a fun thread to keep going for their senior seasons. We could use links and updates to follow their progress.

Lone Peak transfer? Would be interesting if we steal Zach's teammate from a BYU feeder school too!

Good comments about Zach Norvell at about the 13:20 mark on this podcast (http://suntimeshighschoolsports.com/2015/11/04/shot-clock-ep-22-top-5-players-class/) from guys who are well versed in Chicagoland hoops.

Interesting to note, prior to this Summer AAU circuit, Norvell was barely a blip on any bball radar as his stats/#'s weren't overly impressive.

However, he exploded onto the scene this past Summer showing great size, shooting prowess, & the stats to back it up.

For whatever reason, his HS stats AGAIN are below average at best.

We know he can ball and shoot with the best, yet curious why he's never put up big #'s at the HS level?

Not worried one bit, yet Norvell was never highly recruited following his Frosh, Soph, or Junior year campaigns. Generally, ANY 4* prospect is noticed by Soph year at the latest, yet he's a rare example of someone who was discovered solely due to his AAU abilities.

Interesting.

Nice find, Steel. Always like to hear from somebody in the know with no skin in the game that he's a "really nice kid."

Interesting.

With Simeon being a powerhouse program his low stats probably had more to do with him playing behind upperclassmen. I'm sure it will be a different deal for him this year as he will have a featured role with the team

Interesting.

He was just further down the pecking order at Simeon. Obviously his Freshman year, Parker and Nunn ran things (the only two freshman to start at Simeon at believe). Last year, they had about 7 seniors on the team as well. Basically, I wouldn't look too much into his high school stats before this year. Simeon is constantly stacked, so it's rare to see one player carry them, especially as an underclassmen. Judging by tweets I've seen from those near Chicago ball, he should definitely be up near 20ppg this year as he'll be a featured piece.

I had the exact same thought. Although I'm not sure we'd need a 6'3 wingish guard, but - yeah.

Amazing to me how many good recruits have come out of Utah lately. In fact, IIRC, of the top 100, Utah had more than WA, OR, and Cal, put together.

Looks like Zach Collins has a good relationship with Popoola -- I wonder if they want to continue their careers together (in 2017)?

Christian PoPoola Jr actually played for Bishop Gorman his freshman year (2013-14) but transferred to Lone Peak for the 2014-15 year since his dad @PremierBall (https://twitter.com/PremierBall) took a job in Utah. They've now moved back and 'Lil PoP' decided to play for Gorman again

One of our best assets in recruiting has been our players -- I wonder if Collins can get an assist with Popoola.

Zachs dad posted a video of a nice inside feed from Popoola to Collins for a finish.

"Christian PoPoola Jr
liked your Tweet.

@TandZsdad @lilPOPchristian @zcollins_33 They look good working together --would be nice to see both in Zag uniforms together. ;) #GoZags "

Simeon & Norvell #22, Gorman & Collins #26, Garfield (WA) #8, Rainier Beach (WA) & West Linn (OR) honorable mention

https://hshoopselite.wordpress.com/rankings/hs-hoops-top-25/2015-2016-hs-hoops-rankings/

22. Simeon (IL)
2014-2015 Record: 27-3
Preview: Simeon (IL) is looking to return to prominence and win their first state title since the Jabari Parker era. Look for elite 2018 6′ 1″ PG Kezo Brown to have a breakout season this year for the Wolverines as he has the potential to be the next Simeon great. Alongside Brown, key contributors returning from last years team will be 2016 6′ 4″ SG Zach Norvell (committed to Gonzaga), 2016 6′ 7″ SF Ben Coupet, 2016 6′ 2″ SG Josh Thomas, and 2017 5′ 9″ PG Evan Gilyard. Key newcomers to for this years Wolverines include 2016 6′ 8″ PF Terrell Phipps and 2016 6′ 5″ SF James Gordon. Simeon may be the best team out of the state of Illinois this upcoming year and may have its best shot since Jabari Parker to return to glory and finish as state champions again.

26. Bishop Gorman (NV)
2014-2015 Record: 27-6
Preview: Bishop Gorman (NV) are looking for their fifth consecutive Nevada state title on the back of their 2016 6′ 11″ big man Zach Collins (committed to Gonzaga). Other key returners from last years championship team include 2017 6′ 5″ elite scorer Charles O’Bannon Jr, 2017 6′ 3″ SG Chris Poopola Jr, 2016 5′ 10″ PG Julian Payton, 2016 6′ 6″ SG Chase Nomaaea, and 2018 6′ 5″ SF Jamal Bey. Charles O’Bannon Jr will have to take on a much bigger on this years Gaels team as he will need to step up his scoring production and take on more of a leadership role.
