View Full Version : Stocks and Rob in Vegas

We just got back from watching the Lakers and the Kings play at the MGM Grand in Vegas.

The Kings won 107-100. Stocks got in at the end for a few minutes--he made 2 free throws and had one f rebound and 1 block.

Rob did not get in, I'm guessing because the lakers were trailing throughout the game, and at times by as many as 13 points.

But I was very glad to make eye contact a couple of times with Rob as he warmed up and I was sitting just behind their warm up basket. He gave me a huge grin and point both times when he saw me.

We have had a lot of fun in our short trip to Vegas. We took the bus to Fremont Street, visited Pawn Stars, (which is just as weird as it seems on TV) and went to a couple of antique stores.

I was reading somewhere, sorry no link, that Sacre was one of 5 bigs trying for 3 or 4 spots on the roster. They got Hibbert for one year, and as the starter, and have Tarik Black. They signed Robert Upshaw and Metta WP to contracts, Upshaw multi year and MWP a single year.

I suspect, but haven't seen it written anywhere, that the Lakers know what they get with Rob. His enthusiasm and hard work are a given, and I am sure that he works hard to improve every aspect of his game, all off season as well as during the season. I think that is why they haven't been playing him...he knows the offense and the team knows him.

Found it.

"The Lakers have six players — Ryan Kelly, Metta World Peace, Jabari Brown, Robert Sacre, Tarik Black and Robert Upshaw — competing for the final four roster spots and Upshaw is the “wild card” because of his talent and checkered past, Bill Oram of The Orange County Register writes. Upshaw is a talented shot blocker, but he was also kicked off teams at Fresno State and the University of Washington, as Oram points out. Lakers head coach Byron Scott said it is conceivable that the team will keep four centers, including starter Roy Hibbert, but indicated that would only be in an extreme circumstance, Oram adds."

One of the great things was sitting there and watching our guys getting paid so well for doing what they do.

Another great thing about the trip was the number of folks that commented about my Zag Gear. We saw 3 young men who commented on the Zags, a bus driver who appreciated it when I told him it was Gonzaga, rather than Gon-Zaw-ga, a guy at the game who saw me three times and talked with me about the Zags, a woman getting off our plane in Boise, and a guy getting on our plane in Boise who recognized me as ZaGranny and ran over to talk about my posts and photos.

Thanks for posting pics, it looks like fun! Too bad Rob didn't get to play. I was hoping to see a picture with you, Rob and David!

Forgot to tell the story of n Aussie family we met as we left the game. 10 year old boy, dad and grandpa. They spotted our Zag gear and were very excited, especially the boy. He is an avid basketball player and wants to go to. Gonzaga So I said--we could use an Aussie pipeline and for the boy to keep working on his game. He was beside himsef with excitement. at seeing Rob and Stocks.

It was a lot of fun.

ESPN Staff Writer

The Los Angeles Lakers have waived forward Jonathan Holmes, leaving one final roster cut to be made before the team opens its regular season Oct. 28 against the Minnesota Timberwolves. That final decision will likely come down to guard Jabari Brown, a second-year guard who played in 19 games with the Lakers last season, or Metta World Peace, a 35-year-old forward and ex-Laker with 15 years of NBA experience. The Lakers have until Monday night to trim their roster to 15 players, the maximum amount teams are allowed to carry on their regular-season roster.
