Can't believe Pargo is having challenge sticking in the league.

He has a 2+ mil contract offer currently from a Chinese pro team.

If he had played for Duke or Kentucky he would have been a first rounder, maybe even a lottery pick. Much like Okafor went #4, could have been #1, but consensus was, in the tournament, he was outplayed by Karno and others. I expect he will be a servicable player in the NBA, but he won't get away with the drop shoulder move or the 5 step approach...at least not until he becomes known as a superstar. which would only happen because he played at Duke.

A player sticks in the NBA because they can, not because of what school they went to

That's not necessarily so. If you spent a lottery pick on a point guard, and he had a guaranteed contract for 3+ years and a huge signing bonus, and Pargo came in and played marginally better, you keep the guy you've already paid for. A player from the big name schools have been more likely to be that lottery pick. The Zags are making some headway into that, but it still is a common occurance. Look at this last weeks draft. Are the Kentucky players and the Duke players taken REALLY the best in college last year? I don't think so. They MAY have more potential, but that still has to be developed.

The question as to why he can't stick in the league is one that I would love to hear the answer to, if Basketball Zag is around.

Inconsistency?
Salary Cap issues with an older player?

Dunno, granted, it is a highlight video, but he's obviously a star, making millions wherever he goes. It's an interesting question.

He's made a lot more money than most have coming out of the program - wonder who's made more, him or Daye?

Anyway, good for him.

After hoop fest a couple of years ago Pargo and some NBA players put on an exhibition game at the arena. I was stunned at how much Pargo had improved since leaving GU. His jump shot and ball handling were much improved. Still, Nate and John Wall played better at that event, but Pargo had improved a lot. At GU, his shooting was streaky and he was prone to turnovers and/or driving into a wall way too often for my taste. Today he is not the same player we had at GU and he deserves the salary he commands.

Bet I can tell you who's played more.

Count me in for not being able to believe that he hasnt had better reception in the league.

But Zagsker is not talking about Lottery picks. Of course, every team will keep lottery guys, they have guaranteed money. We are talking about late 2nd round and undrafted players here and they have to have the right fit/need/skill set to stick on a roster. I would even go as far as to say is a player in a situation like Pargo has to bring something to the table that is pretty spectacular to keep a roster spot. In the end, if you are not a lotto pick, it's a crap shoot. KP is about to find that out with the Mavs. It's the Business of the nba [QUOTE=willandi;1/124695]That's not necessarily so. But I'd also say that I think JP would be a great back up point guard for Chris Paul in LA. I think there games are very similar

After watching that first highlight video I have no idea how Pargo is not in the NBA.

It's been a long time since I've watched Pargo in a Zags uniform, but it always seemed like his jumper was more mechanical when he was here. He has such a smooth stroke now compared to then. Of course he's still breakin ankles and making big guys line up to be posterized, but I am seriously impressed with his improved stroke.
And watching those highlights makes me drool a little over this upcoming season because I believe that Perkins has a lot of the same skills and athletic ability. Minus perhaps the dunking over footers with regularity. And McClellan isn't exactly a slouch either. If these guys can shake and bake then pass anywhere near as good, it's going to be a whole lot of fun this year with the bigs they've got to feed the rock to. :-)

He'd be a great compliment to Knight & Bledsoe in the Phoenix Suns' backcourt. I'd love to see him in a Suns uniform.

Jeremy 's developed into an NBA player. He's very shortchanged by the league. Such a powerful talent.
