The NBA "dwaft," as Stern would say it:

The Duke mafia's pimping of Okafor from Koach down to Mumbles Williams is unseemly and a bit suspicious. Rothstein earlier today pointed out that in the NCs Shem had outplayed him as evidence he isn't all the Dukeheads implore us to believe.

Just a few minutes into the show, the blathering has already gotten on my nerves and I've muted the sound, waiting for the first pick.

Honestly, he was outplayed in the E8 and NC game IMHO. Sparty's lack of a solid C showed me that he does well against inferior competition.

Okafor like most Duke players shines brighter in the system. That's why most never make it big in the league, save for Kyrie who hardly played, and Grant who was very good but not great. Players like Okafor, Winslow and Tyus and just as likely to turn out like Will Avery and Jon Scheyer, among countless other forgotten "great" Duke players.

Will Kevin Pangos get drafted in the 2nd round?

http://northpolehoops.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/img_5764.jpg

No, because I think most teams expect him to go undrafted and if they want him, they'll just offer him a contract after the draft. Doesn't mean he won't make the show... but Delly went that route.

Pangos isn't signing with anyone on a free agent deal. He will probably get on a summer league team as will GBJ but they don't sign FA contracts to do that. These guys are fringe NBA prospects at best but great Zags!

Dickau firmly stated in his radio show that it is in Kevin's best interest to go undrafted b/c he would have been very late if he had been at all. So, it allows his agent and himself to look at the 4 or more teams that near certainly said they would invite him to play on their summer league team, and decide which team is the best fit in terms of line-up, coaches, style, etc.

Whether signed before or after a summer league appearance, any contract signed by Kevin Pangos will be a UFA deal. And yes, Kevin Pangos can hack it in the NBA. Wasn't so sure at one point, but after what he did this season, he'd be more impacting than Delly.

Bills and Williams were there to unashamedly pimp for Duke players and with ESPNs full knowledge and support. Only Jalen added value as the moderator is a tool. It was interesting and a little uncomfortable to hear rose talk abut NBA father and sons. His estranged dad was twice the player he was.

I don't understand your point? Yes, I listened to Dickau yesterday as well, and he said to choose his summer league team that gives him the best chance to get to a training camp. That's not the same thing as signing a contract is what I'm saying. I love Pangos and GBJ for everything they did for the program...all time Zags. However, I don't agree that Pangos will be "more impacting" than Delly by any means, if for no other reason the size difference. I just personally, taking out my Zags bias, can't see Pangos hanging athletically in the league. I actually think GBJ has a better chance than Pangos does.

Always skeptical of pre-season rankings on teams/players. Need to see them play during current year before speculating where they stand relative to others. In this case, it is entirely possible that Chad Ford will have undershot as things unfold. We know that Sabonis and Karnowski are gems. How they rank depends a lot on how familiar national media is with them. They will get good national/East Coast exposure early with the Pitt game and the B4A tourney, plus AZ and UCLA later on schedule (as well as likely good run in WCC plus NCAA tourneys). All of that will draw more attention from scouts and pundits. I think the lack of awareness as to excellent talent we have coming into the backcourt causes national reporters to underestimate how potent the 2015-16 team could be. If they step up quickly (and there's every reason to think it is likely), Sabonis and Karnowski will get plenty of national recognition.

You should watch ESPN's Fab 5 show. I didn't know about it either, but despite his dad's NBA status, Jalen was left to grow up in the Chicago projects and he talks about what a chip on his shoulder it became, especially in his hatred of Duke.

I faintly recall there was a rapprochement between the two at some point. Not sure if it took. Jimmy was unreal, saw him at the old MSG with PC. Played a lot like the Big O, tho clearly not as well. Great great shooter. PC was the GU of the east coast back then under Joe Mullaney and later Dave Gavitt. Ernie No D was my personal fave.

GU bias? What? When have I ever shown "GU bias"? Kevin Pangos hit some advanced stats that really made the case for what he is capable of. It's something he hadn't done before.

USG% that low, and offensive impact that high doesn't happen by chance. KP will fit perfectly with a star point-forward that needs that kind of PG, who can also shoot off-ball. KP also plays well with high-screen stretch 4's. At that point, a few inches of height and some pounds of weight are irrelevant.

GBJ shows a much steeper climb to acclimation.
