SPOKANE, Wash. – Senior Kyle Wiltjer and sophomore Domantas Sabonis will attend the inaugural Nike Basketball Academy on June 26-30 at the Santa Monica Hangar in Santa Monica, Calif.

The Bulldog pair make up two of just 20 invitees that event organizers identified as the “top-20 college athletes in the country.” The camp is a shift for Nike from three skills academies to one, which allows the best players in the country in both high school and college to compete against the best competition. They’ll receive direction from NBA stars and legends including LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis.

A 6-10 forward, Wiltjer burst onto the scene this season after transferring from Kentucky and sitting out 2013-14 as a redshirt. He led the team with 16.8 points per game and shot a team-best .466 from behind the arc while making 68 three-pointers. He led the team in scoring 18 times and had a team-high 30 games with double-digit points, including 11 with more than 20. He also had a team season-high of 45 points at Pacific on Feb. 19. Wiltjer became the seventh Zag to earn the WCC Newcomer of the Year Award and was named a USBWA Second Team All-American among a laundry list of honors.

Sabonis led the team in rebounding as a freshman at 7.1 per game, earning All-WCC Second Team, All-WCC Freshman Team and NCAA South Regional All-Tournament Team honors along the way. He averaged 9.7 points per game and shot a team-best .668 from the field. Sabonis collected four double-doubles and scored in double figures 20 times overall in his rookie campaign.

Gonzaga is coming off a school-record 35-3 season accompanied by a record 22-game win streak, WCC regular season and tournament titles, and a trip to the Elite Eight.

I'm a little bit confused about where Domas is with the Lithuanian National Team, especially with the U20. He hasn't been in the box score from the two games played at the Turkey tournament yesterday and today, and I've seen no explanation why.

Do you have a list of the 20 players that have been invited? I would bet GU is the only team with 2 players.

Wow, imagine our frontcourt if Kyle and Domas get that chemistry and familiarity. November is only 128 days away! Can our young backcourt distribute and defend? I think YES!

Coming off the bench for the Lithuanian National Team or receiving direct input at a camp from LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis? Yeah, I bet he's not on any box score...

UConn has 3 players going -- 2 will be counselors

"Rising sophomore Daniel Hamilton (Los Angeles, Calif.) is one of just 20 college players nationally to be invited to participate in the inaugural Nike Basketball Academy to be held June 26-29 in Santa Monica. Also, rising junior Amida Brimah (Accra, Ghana) and incoming freshman Jalen Adams (Roxbury, Mass.) will serve as counselors and part of the college contingent of players at the sixth annual adidas Nations, held on July 30-Aug. 3, in Long Beach. Looking at their article --it looks like only 1 attending the Nike camp and the other 2 are going to the adidas camp--so disregard.

My first reaction would be that Kentucky & Duke would split the other 18.

Wow, Domas' wingspan is pretty meh. This is very surprising knowing how good of a rebounder he is. I mean, it was obvious he didn't have freakishly long arms, but I was somehow hoping his wingspan had 2-3 inches on his height. He's doing pretty good with his gradual weight gain though.

Interesting list. Some of those are...unexpected. Were the LSU signees the only incoming freshmen that were eligible to be invited or is that a coincidence? Simmons was the #1 ranked recruit by many but Blakeney certainly wasn't considered the next best recruit by anybody, probably not rated as the top at his position by anybody either. Kinda weird. Also while it's nice to see a couple Arizona guys there, one is a career role player and the other is a juco transfer coming off a redshirt year that hasn't played a second of D1 hoops yet. Would've thought incoming freshman Allonzo Trier would be more likely to get invited to something like this than either Tarczewski or Allen. Also Justin Jackson from North Carolina, but no Marcus Paige? Really? And a couple of those players I've honestly never heard of before. Wonder what the criteria for an invite was?

Screw the spurs. He needs to travel a little bit further north and play for Dallas. I wish Dallas kept Olynyk

I'm wondering whether he's a better prospect than Kyle Anderson. That guy might become one of the main players on the Spurs in the near future.

Wiltjer; Easily the best offensive player....

When does the season start, again?

Sabonis is shooting it well "as expected"? "Expected" might be a little strong there. "As hoped" might be a little more accurate.

People seem somewhat surprised bout wiltjer all over social media, esp NBA writers, analysts, etc. Why?

Wiltjer would be a weapon for any team. One of the best shooting forwards I've ever seen -- past or present.

He'd be an all-star in summer league, then again, Ammo was the leading scorer of summer league and all these team camp things...

Great to see KyleW light it up! Bet we see some Ammo type games this Fall :)
Also great to see Dontmiss get invited - and doing well. The kid's an animal and could certainly use the camp exposure to home some skills and further enhance others. Enjoyed the comment on his D.
It's great for the two of them to be around top talent - bodes well for better out-of-conference play.

I went from ecstasy to agony in five seconds when Kelly was drafted. The Mavericks saved a bit of salary cap money and added a player that would be traded to NY for Tyson Chandler. Mavs blew it, Kelly could've learned a lot from Dirk.

Four straight years of one and done in the playoffs...and my family/friends ask me "why" when I say I don't follow the NBA until the day after the Zags' season is done.

My next project is to get tickets for the SMU game...

O/T, but my wife bought my 13YO son one of those training gloves for shooting a basketball. It's making a positive difference, but he still needs to shoot 500 times a day.

Hooter, I agree. But at least we have Sabonis, Wiltjer, PK, and Edwards. We should be able to hold our own, unless they are really blatant.

Also why I am happy we have Perkins, McClellan, Dranginis, Melson, and Alberts for the guards. Two solid point guards, at least two shooting guards and two small forwards (with the possibility of Sabonis or Wiltjer playing if we got into trouble).

This will be a fun team to follow.

Iowa's big gun (White) was a mid 2nd round pick in the recent draft. Somewhat similar player to Wiltjer, but KW was already better last year, never mind if he improves this year.

The Question: How much help are our bigs going to provide each other just by being on the floor together?

If you are an opposing coach --do you put your best big defender on Wiltjer or Sabonis? Do you put your biggest guy on Karnowski? We rotate Karnowski out and now the poor guy gets to chase Sabonis or Wiltjer around the court-- or now he gets to bang with Edwards. Going to be a nightmare for the opposing teams bigs to try to slow down.

Last year if one or two of our bigs got into foul trouble --we went to Angel.....now Edwards will fill that roll and he is a bit more of a "big".

It should take a lot of the weight off our guards knowing the issues our bigs are going to cause the opposing team.

Going to be a great year coming up.

I agree that Wiltjer was already better than White last year. I couldn't even stand to watch White as a Freshman. He stood around and watched the ball, and never moved out of his space to chase a rebound or a loose ball. He didn't always run back down court when his team was making a fast break, but stood at the top of the key and watched while glancing over at the bench to see if the coach was watching him dog it. He reached in and made stupid fouls instead of getting good position. Sound familiar?? Sacre did the same exact things when he was young. Fortunately both players improved and grew out of that after the freshman year. Two years ago White started to impress me a little more, and last year I couldn't believe it was the same player. Lazy no more, good motor, Mr. Hustle, and much improved shot, but he's no Kyle Wiltjer. I think Wiltjer could be a legit candidate for national POY next season. NOBODY can touch Karno. Sabonis will be a stud, and we've certainly got the passers and perimeter shooters to keep the D honest. I really can't see who could beat us except for an early game or two when we're still coming together with young guards. I'm not a Koolaid guy, but this year I've got that lovin feelin, OOOHHHOOO that lovin feeelin.
