Wow that is an incredible honour for him, and speaks volumes of his ability. That try-out roster is full of future NBA talent, the people behind USA basketball must see that kind of potential in him and that's enough for me to get excited about seeing him in a Zag uniform next season.

Does seem like a long shot to make the team, but regardless, what an awesome opportunity...best of luck Silas!

Hey now that is exciting, good for him! Just the invite should be enough to give us all some excitement for him next year.

Has as good of a shot at making the team as anyone.

Bouldin played on one, right? Having Miller as coach helps. Maybe he is THAT good....:)

I think he is THAT good Jazz. His first made 3 at the Garden tells me he has IT! We will see it this coming season.

Whether he makes the team or not, this is a tremendous opportunity for Silas.

He must be a lot better than I saw last year. To me watching him every game, he looked like a dear in headlights often---- pretty lost. Just being real.

There is a reason he is asked to be on this team and Few pointed out before he has the best pro potential. Maybe it was nerves. Hopefully he can gain the confidence to be a reliable scorer next year. This experience can only help.

If he IS THAT good then this team may win the NC next year. You cant tell me that a team with Perkins/Mcclelan, *one of the better sg's in the nation*, Draino/Alberts, Sabonis/Witler, Karnowski/Edwards isnt one of the top 3-5 best teams in the nation.

Let's go Silas!

It is top 5. Out of the gate. As you know, NCs are tricky deals. And maybe we play thug Georgia, so all bets are off.

Congratulations Silas!

Now go out there and give Coach Miller no choice but to keep you on his squad this summer; you'll have a great adventure! ZagNation is behind you 100%

People keep saying that Silas had a "deer in the headlights" look about him...

I still remember that dunk he did out of nowhere towards the end of the season..

It looked like he just decided no one is going to stop me putting this ball in that hole!

If that is the Melson we will be seeing the next three years then all I can say is watch out!

I would love to see a clip of that dunk...

I don't think Silas had "deer in the headlights" syndrome, I think he struggled to find his role on the team last year. Not the same thing. Especially after McClellan entered the rotation. Melson did have a few double figure scoring games.

I have to think that with Mark Few's involvement with USA Basketball, these are the types of opportunities that Zag players should expect to see.

Excellent point.

I hadn't thought of that. But, I bet you're right, that USA Basketball has a lot of respect for coach and his views.

Lot of back scratching....expect he would return the favor to Seannie as well.....he is INSIDE the magic kingdom...maybe just not on Selection Sunday :)

It is to my understanding that Melson has been showing well so far. He's hitting shots and not forcing the action.

this.

he was the Oregon POY for good reason. Also, MVP of the Oregon-Washington All-star game. All in good fun, but still…

Most bouncy guard we've had since Pargo.

Alberts can fly too, yet Silas has a near 40" vertical, no one on the team can touch that. McClellan is the fastest/quickest, Alberts the rangiest, Melson the most athletic/bouncy.

Great experience for Silas. Hope he uses it to it's fullest.. Lots of talent to be developed. We'll see how he does.

It's mind boggling to think that GUs, what, 8th or 9th man last year was picked for such an honor. His relative youth is a factor, but still quite a reflection on the program's place in the college hoop pantheon.

PS, what's Boeheim doing there, and do you think they have enough coaches?

Jaz, I agree. And then add Sabonis to his team, Edwards and McClellan. That is great. And I am not sure about Karnowski.

I'd imagine in a skills development camp they have lots of coaches. Besides....Colorado Springs is a great place to be in Summer. Broadmoor alone is worth the visit. Gorgeous mountains, clean air....and the training academy is right across the lake from the housing as I recall. PLUS free food......4 Seasons type food.
I'd go.........but nobody asked me;)

First cuts today, I believe. Going to be tough with all the returnees. In effect this is a post Mickey D game team with some add ons. I would make SM's chances at 10%, but great experience nonetheless.

Melson cut, according to Jason King:

Jason King @JasonKingBR
USA Basketball U-19 team trims roster from 21 to 16. The 5 cuts: Malik Pope, Silas Melson, Eric Paschall, TJ Leaf and Seventh Woods

He just practiced and played with the country's top players... as (basically) a redshirt freshman. Being cut is nothing to look down at.

Politics aside, I wonder how he really did? Great experience regardless....

In the best light, he played like Bobby Hurley to the Dream Team.....Leaf and Pope are not chopped meat.....Good job, SM and staff.
