Twitter from Steven's agent points out his deal with Gravelines has an NBA out, so looks like we should see him in summer league trying to earn his way onto an NBA roster.

Looks like Steven is setting France on fire for Gravelines-Dunkerque, which went 95-73 (http://netcasting.webpont.com/n4/index.n5.FRA.html?fra_cup_215) this morning over Mickey McConnell's Chalon-Reims in the Coupe de France, with Steven putting up 26 points in 29 minutes.

Gravelines-Dunkerque wins it. Steven and Derek both played well. Derek missed two free throws in the closing seconds, which surprised me. Wasn't he the all-time free throw leader at GU?

At the risk of being "That Guy", note that this is the FIBA Europe Cup, not the Eurocup. There is a big difference. The Eurocup is the second best intercountry league in Europe after the Euroleague. The FIBA Europe Cup is a distant fourth, a feeder into FIBA's Champions League.

Pangos' Gran Canaria team played EuroCup last year. He excelled and was signed by a Euroleague team. He is one step away from the NBA now.

Gray excelling in the FIBA Europe Cup is nice to see, but not that meaningful if you expect him to ever have a shot at the NBA.

Thanks, Mojo. I had no idea. Appreciate the heads up.

No problem. It is confusing as heck as there is a power struggle going on in Europe with FIBA (Champions League / FIBA Europe Cup) and Euroleague/EuroCup.
Trying to figure out the comparative level of the intercountry leagues and then the domestic leagues and then the teams within the domestic leagues is very difficult. And I am no expert.

There is a massive difference in playing for a say the one Euroleague team in Lithuanian (Pangos's Zalgiris) and a low level Lithuania team.

As far as I can tell the only recent GU alums playing on the highest level teams in Europe are:
Austin Daye - Galatasaray (TUR)
Elias Harris - Brose Bramburg (GER)
Kevin Pangos - Zalgiris (LUT)

None of these are very good EL teams. But they are all starter level players.

Almost all North Americans in the EL are ex-NBA or pretty darn near close to it.

Trasolini came over from Italy where he played for the first three years in Serie A and B. Seems to have found a better opportunity in France as he has settled right in at Nancy (in the top ten in scoring, rebounds and blocks).

I often wondered how he would have fared as a Zag.

From what I can tell he has been dealing with a lingering calf issue and has under-performed so far this year (10.0 pts, 29.3% three-point, 6.3 rating against 13.3 pts, 41.0% and 10.4 rating last season). The team has decided to cut him as a precautionary measure (doesn't heal, doesn't improve) and fill his role with someone better. Lots of pressure on American imports in Europe. If you are not producing as a top player...gonzo. There are literally hundreds of good American imports trying to get your job.

Didn't Stockton already get cut from a Croatian team for poor performance? What some here thought was a legit NBA player (rather than a Vikram Carnival member) is now harassing sheep in NZ...

It is ruthless out there.
