Adam Morrison led the nation in scoring as a junior, eclipsed the 30-point mark 13 times, and, thanks in part to that mustache, genuinely became a college basketball icon while leading Gonzaga to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.

Still, he never did what Kyle Wiltjer did last Thursday night.

"I was just in the zone," Wiltjer told the assembled media after a 45-point performance against Pacific that doubled as the highest-scoring game by a Zag in 54 years.

Two nights later, the junior forward finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds in a win at Saint Mary's that secured yet another outright West Coast Conference title for Gonzaga. For these reasons and more, Kyle Wiltjer is the CBSSports.com National Player of the Week.

His stats for the week were incredible.

Wiltjer made 19-of-32 field-goal attempts, including 9-of-14 3-point attempts, and averaged 30.5 points and 9.0 rebounds in a pair of wins. He's now averaging 17.4 points and 5.8 rebounds this season for the third-ranked Zags, who will probably receive a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament if they enter Selection Sunday with a 33-1 record.

Gonzaga, for what it's worth, will be a big favorite in each game between now and then, meaning there's a good chance the Zags get that No. 1 seed. Either way, don't be surprised if Wiltjer ends up with First Team All-America honors, positioned nicely in a hypothetical frontcourt alongside Wisconsin's Frank Kaminsky and Duke's Jahlil Okafor.

Kyle's contribution against SMC was greater IMO than his 45 against UOP. He and Kevin had to make that SMC win happen even though no one was on.

Kyle is also POW at ESPN from both Katz and O'Neil.

I would hope the WCC POW would follow... And if so, he should have had it for three straight weeks (if not for Collingsworth's triple-double record breaker).

Parrish and company also talked a lot about Kyle as a potential player of the year on this morning's podcast (http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/eye-on-college-basketball/25079013/podcast-louisville-drama-texas-ucla-in-trouble), starting about 26:00. Good stuff.
