Austin Daye

Erie Bay Hawks strengthened their roster with addition of 27-year old forward Austin Daye (211-92kg-88, college: Gonzaga). He played recently at San Antonio Spurs in the NBA, but was released by the team last month. In 24 games he recorded 4.0ppg and 2.5rpg this season. Daye ended the last season at Austin Spurs (previous name Austin S.). In only one D-League game he had very impressive stats: 27 points, 13 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 blocks. But the most of that year he spent at the Raptors. But in 7 games he averaged just 1.1ppg and 1.0rpg. The most of previous (12-13) season Daye spent at the Grizzlies. In 33 games he averaged 4.0ppg and 1.8rpg in 2012-13 season. He also played at the Pistons. In 24 games he averaged 5.1ppg and 2.6rpg in 2012-13 season.

The previous (11-12) season Daye was tested by BC Khimky Moscow Region (VTB) in Russian league. The team played in four different competitions (!!!) that year, and he was exposed to basketball on different levels. In three VTB games he averaged 6.0ppg, 2.3rpg and 2.7apg in 2011-12 season. Daye also played 2 games in Euroleague where he averaged 4.0ppg and 2.5rpg in 2011-12 season. He also played 2 games in Eurocup where he averaged only 2.0ppg and 1.5rpg in 2011-12 season. And finally Daye played 5 games in VTB United League where he averaged 4.8ppg, 1.8rpg and 1.0bpg in 2011-12 season.

In 2009 he was drafted by Detroit Pistons (NBA) in first round (15th overall). Daye attended Gonzaga University and it is his sixth season in pro basketball.

Among other achievements his college team won WCC Tournament in 2009. Daye received also All-WCC Honorable Mention award back in 2008 and 2009.
He has played also professionally in other NBA team (Memphis Grizzlies).

The scouts decsribe him following way: (by Borko Popic for NBADraft.net in 2009)
He is more than comfortable handling the ball in transition, as well as attacking off the dribble on the perimeter … Possesses a nice mix of skills with his back to the basket, including fadeways to both shoulders, mini hooks and up and unders … Has great patience when attacking, he reads the defender then either uses a well timed shot fake or a spin move to get himself in better scoring position.

Even though he has an extremely soft touch, he still struggles finishing in traffic because he cannot absorb contact … He is easily thrown off balance and forced into tough shots by stronger defenders.
