I like this team's chances as much as any. It is an exciting year. It is also nice to see us #3 in the odds list. That being said, I don't think we have a 10% chance of winning the tournament.

I just get a kick out of the fact that Vegas has us just as likely to win it all as Duke.

The sports bookies (Vegas) set the initial odds and after that the betting public moves the dial.

The fact the pro's feel we're as likely as Duke to win it all is good enough for me!

Zag4life did you get the 55-1 before Wesley and Sabonis walked onto Campus?

I'm pulling for ya! :)

I correct myself. And it was 60-1 actually. Yes it was actually the day that the news broke Wesley would be attending. I figured good backcourt with veterans, a better Karno, and Wiltjer plus a transfer averaging 17+ a game at USC and a good recruiting class.. the team would be dynamite. 30k would be nice :)

Hypothetical Let's Make a Deal.

$4500 to sell your position, would you take it?

They do, and while futures bets have to have somewhat reasonable odds, they can also be set and move differently than a bet where there are two sides. You generally can't bet the other side of a futures bet that a team won't win the title at the equivalent odds.

zagsfanforlife - Zags make the final. Would you hedge your bet with some size moneyline bet on their opponent or let it ride? Good luck to you!

That scenario played through my head. I think i would hedge it. 15 k would go a long way for a young man like myself

The betting folks must have missed out on the highly educational thread on our board "worst 18 point win ever"--that says they should not be betting anything on our Zags.

;)

I wish I would have gotten your odds zagsfanforlife.....would make the dance that much more interesting.

Love it. Buy some puts and make it a win win even if its a little less win.

I understand your point about futures betting and agree but some might say betting on Duke instead of Gonzaga is a bet against Gonzaga and everyone else.

Rumble young man, rumble.

The only times I ever laid money on a sportsbook wager involving the Zags, I was doing it on behalf of others (on this board) who backed their convictions regarding the spread with cold hard cash. In both cases, they were right and I was happy for them. Me ? I save my gambling dollars for NCAA pools, the Triple Crown races, and the Breeders' Cup. Point spread wagers are out of my comfort zone, for the most part.

They didn't play well that game, it is concerning for the future. I don't think I ever said they are a bad team, nor did I say that people shouldn't be betting anything on OUR Zags.

That being said, I only got 15-1

Why would anyone do that? $4500 at 9/l is 40,500. That is more than 30000, unless i'm overlooking something.

I'm already too nervous watching most games without money riding on the outcome. How do you gamblers manage it?

In real life, no one would, unless the bookmakers were unavailable. But I was using the hypothetical based on the game Let's Make a Deal where the deal is sweetened to coax you out of letting it ride.

Kansas doesn't stand a chance vs Kentucky.

Final Score: Kentucky 72, Kansas 40

Sometimes a team just sucks on a particular day. Stepp & crew would have beaten UNR 9 of 10, IMO. Guess which one they played (& got smoked).

This game was an anomaly. Kansas is a lot better than what, 4 or 5 SEC teams that Kentucky has struggled to put away. Kentucky appears to get "up" for big name opponents, but they've proven numerous times this year they can play quite badly, they've been fortunate enough they haven't played that way against any decent teams.

Understood, just pointing out that that's too high a value; at 9/1 you'd need to bet a bit under 3500 to win 30000, so buying his bet for 4500 is not a good deal.

When I was at a casino in Mesquite on our way down to Vegas, they had Gonzagas odds at 2/1, the highest team besides kentucky (who, by the way, had 1/5 odds). Both were extremely outrageous bets, but they wouldnt have been that way if people hadnt been betting on them. Crazy.

KenPom's ratings have our chances of winning at 9.8% or 10.2:1. FiveThirtyEight has us at 6% or 16.7:1. KenPom actually has us as more likely than Duke to make the Final 4, but that is a result of a harder perceived matchup versus Utah than a higher ranking than Duke.

I just finished listening to an interview with Shaka Smart. He said Wisconsin has the best chance of beating Kentucky. Smart mentioned WVU has a shot but doesn't think they have enough scorers. Smart said he loves Mark Few and Gonzaga but sees no one other than Duke getting out of the South region. So I guess Zags need to prove him wrong. I wasn't sure where to post this and it seemed this thread was the closest. I have the link if anyone is interested in listening. He talks about a lot of other interesting stuff in general.

Had I had to guess, I would have thought that ND and MSU would be about the same. I am sure wrong. In terms of the teams likelihood, they line up about right, led by the 3 one seeds and AZ
