Zags finish January with a 9-0 record, 22 - 1 overall, 2 games clear of the rest of the WCC.

On a day of upsets in the Top 25 and within the WCC, Gonzaga took care of business.

Karno gets it just for going 9/12 from the foul line.

I go Karnowski. It's clutch free throws at the end. Something that Wesley and Pangos had real trouble with today. Props to Sabonis for his double double and Wiltjer also for a great game. Gary Bell Junior coming through with some daggers as well. I hope Wesley is okay and feels better tonight.

For the first time, I am refusing to vote. The fact is, the longer the season goes on, the harder and harder it is to pick a single individual out of this incredibly balanced team. This is my favorite Zag TEAM ever!

You could easily pick any of the 3 bigs. I went with Karnowski.

I went with Pangos, in part because the bigs were pretty well equivalent and I think Pangos just did a nice job running the team. Lots of instances where the wheels might have come off, but he keeps them cool.

That almost swayed me too, but in the end i went with Draino, he played error free tonight.

KD coming fast. Idaho returns in yet?

Karno was solid but for me, that special G Unit spark came from Kyle Dranginis in his pretty limited minutes. Sabonis was outstanding yet again.

If you based it on the short highlight clip on ESPN's College Game Day recap thingy, you'd think Sabonis was the only player on the floor for GU. That was kinda lame.

Karno dominated the post + the ft's

Sabonis double double

Bell 10 pts on 3 fg atts, 5 boards 3 steals

Wesley 5 assists

Dranginis the usual bit of everything.

Without even mentioning the two "stars"

Sabonis - he is starting to take his game to the next level. I have been worried how he will play with the more athletic teams and a lot was answered tonight.

Just a really good all around performance by the whole team. I pick Karno for setting the tone early and draining his free throws. Special mention of Kyle D...the kid plays REALLY smart and has a chippiness to him. I've said this before...Kyle has traveled through time from the 99 team to help this team....tough kid.

You and Tyra nailed it.
So I voted for Sabonis who will be the heart we need going forward and for yet another double-double.

I went with Sabonis. He had another double-double. His toughness, imo is the glue that holds GU together. I loved his dunk also. I thought Dranginis was also really tough. He played great off the bench. He and Sabonis could definitely be starters, imo. Sabonis is really getting better. It was great seeing him play with some tough guys who were pretty quick, long and athletic.

Go Zags!!!
One game at a time!

I havent looked up the stats but hes got to be close to averaging a double double off the bench. That is near unheard of!

Edit: just looked it up. for the year hes only at 6.86 rebounds and 9.95 points

KDs drive, Sabonis dunking drive and Macs three were plays of the game, momentum changers.

Draino, perfect from the floor, 2 steals and a block with with no turnovers. The combination of KD and Domas allows the Zags to get starter level play from numbers 6 and 7...

As always, thanks for always getting this thread up Reno. I love checking up on it multiple times after a game, for at least 48 hours.

I went with Sabonis tonight. Like Baseline mentioned above, Domas is really starting to take his game to another level. I think we're watching a truly special player in the making...(he is already special though! I know that much)

If someone has a big WCC and NCAA tourny, Im going to start to worry that we will only have three bigs next year and two of them will be seniors...

You're welcome, woohoo. There have been some very close votes this season. I hope we get to post a lot more GUnit polls before it's over !

Voted for Kyle D though our a case could be made for either Sabonis or Karnowski. I just love the way Dranginis goes about his business on the floor. Hard working, efficient, and does whatever the team needs him to. I'm sure it isn't easy to get relatively limited minutes as a very skilled redshirt junior, yet he has never complained to my knowledge and instead has really made himself the ultimate "fill in the gaps" reserve.

Jim Meehan's Game Story HERE (http://www.spokesman.com/zags/stories/2015/feb/01/game-set-match/)

More at the link above:

“It’s really tough, the way their guards give them the ball in certain positions,” said Nichols, who rebounded from a slow start to finish with 12 points. “Wiltjer can step out and hit a 3-ball and Sabonis is just so skilled. And big Karnowski, you can’t do much with him. He’s a huge factor in there.”

“You have to give them credit,” Pastner said. “They had three guys hit 3s that we played off of: McClellan, Dranginis and (Byron) Wesley. Karnowski hit free throws (9 of 12) and we said if he had anything go ahead and foul him. And Wiltjer was a big key in the game.”

I voted Karno, he is so much more poised than years past and getting better. He also looked confident at the free throw line.
