The tally of player of the game votes speaks to the depth and talent of the Zags thus far. Opponents cannot focus on just one guy. . .

Very Interesting...
By my count Pangos 1st- 3 times, 2nd- 3 times, 3rd- 2 times.
Wiltjer comes in with 3 - 3- 1.
Shemtastic comes in with 3 -1 - 2.
Also since 12/10 Shemanigans is picked 1st, 2nd or 3rd in 6 of the 8 games!
If we had a "GU unit" for the Arizona game I bet he would be in the running for that game as well.

Here is what I find amazing, in the 15 wins we've had this year, we have 7 different guys who have walked away with essentially "most valuable player" - and an 8th, Dranginis, has had close games, too.

Incredible, really. I think that says a lot and a tribute to coach and the guys selflessness.

Dranginis has one third place game. One more than you. Hardly close.

I think Wiltjer is underappreciated by Zags fans thus far. I really don't understand the voting for this half the time. Some games it's hard to pick out an individual player, but usually there are 1 or 2 guys that are CLEARLY the best player that game, and the player most responsible for the W. Yet people will vote for 4 or 5 different players. Sometimes it will be a player that pads his stats long after the outcome is completely a foregone conclusion, when it was another player much earlier in the game that was largely responsible for building a big lead. It's all for fun, but I find myself mystified by the GUnit thread fairly often.

I like Wiltjer too. He's been better than I expected. But he does have games where he isn't as productive. Probably says more about Gonzaga's depth and his unselfishness.
But, as good as he is offensively (great) he is a below average defender and really not much of a passer either. He and Pangos are neck and neck for player of the year so far, in my eyes.

I think the voting has been fair for the most part. Sometimes I pick a less obvious guy if I think they contributed to the win in less obvious ways.

PS. This process should never leave you mystified. It's mostly just for fun. :-)

Since conference play began, you could just about pick one of Pangos, Wiltjer or Karnowski before the game even starts and you'd probably be right. Wesley has certainly been a big contributor this year, scoring down a bit lately. I love Bell, but he's gotta get his shooting stroke back. Needs a game like the first half of the St. Joe's game to get him going. They've gotten some production from the bench, but it's been somewhat inconsistent.

The Zags have three guys who are going to score right around twenty points most games, and a fourth who is going to be in double figures most every game. I think that's what makes the team so strong and tough to beat. This team really does have talented offensive players and that 's why its fun to watch them. I would not like to follow those teams who score in the 50's and their game resembles football more then basketball.

First thing I thought too!

Thanks for tallying them Reno, I've been curious what the totals were, but haven't gotten around to looking it up.

So if you weight Gunits x3, 2nd place x2, and 3rd place x1 and sum them, Pangos and Wiltjer are tied with 33 GUnit points.

BEAT THE BLUE DEVILS !

Few called this his most balanced team. The GUnit vote reinforces it. In the last five games, each starter was voted player of the game (GUnit) by these forums. This isn't just confined to the post season. There is a diverse mix throughout the regular season as well.

Balanced.
