Hudson:

GU scored first five and Wiltjer got it going early. As mentioned in the pregame radio show USD is a tough team to pull away from, however, GU had an 8 minute scoring drought late ( I believe that is what Hudson said), with no field goals and 6 turnovers.

15 for Wiltjer, 12 for Wesley and 10 for Pangos. 52% shooting in first half, but only 32% in the second half. Johnny Dee got it going late but he didn't get any help. USD only 27% for the game. GU had a 52-30 lead, but a Johnny Dee three helped USD to a big run and the Zags fell into a funk.

USD picked up the intensity at that point, and the Zags didn't. GU missed a couple close ones where they could have put the game away, but USD couldn't get the one or two more buckets they needed to really put the pressure on.

Zags won the rebounding 42-36, Karnowski with 8. Dee had 8 boards to go with his 20 points. Dranginis filled the stat sheet again: 6 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 blocks.

15 of Dee's 20 came in the final 9 minutes plus of the game. Once he gets going he is tough to stop and the Zags did a really good job on him for 30 minutes, he gets loose for a three and that's all it takes to get him going. It did take him 24 shots to get his points however, of which 7 came at the free throw line.

No post game interviews tonight. I think Hudson said he is feeling a bit under the weather so that's it, other that the fact the Zags picked up two road wins in league which is difficult to do in any league. And they faced two different types of adversity and still came up with the wins.

Now the Zags go home, get a day off, and get a breather and get ready for Portland.

The San Diego Union Tribune game recap the next morning reported the Zags went 8:24 without a field goal and had only 2 FT's in that time. It seemed like an eternity without a score while Dee was heating up.

Drawing fouls is an area where this team could be better. We are a very finesse team, and we aren't very good at forcing the refs to make a call or two at the end of the game when we could really use it. We also aren't coached to sell fouls like seemingly every other WCC is (with BYU being the worst, in my opinion.) When you are obviously better than everyone in the league, it would be really annoying if we had to resort to sportsmanship to win, but it is a head scratcher when we are just getting into the bonus in the last minutes of the the BYU game, against a very physical team, for example.
