Zags prevail in another Grier grinder game at the Slim Gym. Viewers endured Casey Jacobsen. . .Gonzaga starts the WCC season 2-0.

Who get's your early New Year's toast as the player of the game ?

Thought Karnowski's behind the back assist was a thing of beauty. . .

Gonzaga was pretty awful for large stretches tonight. Lots of video for them to watch from this one. My vote goes to Bell for his defensive effort on Johnny Dee all game.

Kyle D for me. 6 points, 2 blocks, 2 assists, 4 rebounds and no turnovers...

Anyone else notice the affection that KP had in the handshake line for Anderson and Dee (and Sarbaugh of course)?

Wesley. He is Mr. Clutch when the team needs a basket.

KW. Him starting hot didn't even set a tempo - it literally gave us the cushion we needed to win. The offense needs to go through him 75% of the time he is on the court.

Wesley. As usual, he's money down the home-stretch. Loved his 4 point play.

Although I loved Wesley's intensity and clutch-ness down the stretch, Wiltjer is the one who came out and set the tone early and helped get the big lead. A close runner-up to the runner-up would be GBJ - just incredible defense all night long.

Kyle did a number on J. Dee when Bell was out. Great effort and hustle.

Shem controlled the middle allowing everyone else to play tight "D" on their man.

GBJ has had zero O game lately ( no, we haven't "needed" it ) - missed at least two lay-ups tonight - but making Haws, and now Dee work that hard to get their share of points has been inspiring. I tried watching Gary chase Dee around and sprained an eye.

It felt like a home game. Then the refs reminded me it was in San Diego. The crowd was awesome tonight. I voted for Byron Wesley.

I was thinking as the game wore down that there was no clear cut GUB among the rotation but that Dranginis had the cleanest most error free game. Box score confirmed it and I voted KD.

To me this was a game where it was more of a team gutting it out. Wiltjer had a great start. Pangos just played a solid game. Karnowski played a solid second half. Bell could not make anything but played great defense. Dranginis played a great sixth man role of jack of all trades. And Sabonis came in and gave a spark in the second half. But I voted for Wesley for his overall effort.

Even though I didn't even get to SEE Wiltjer score his first 10 points (stupid OT game...), I went with Wiltjer. He put us on top and we never relinquished that lead. We tried to let them crawl back in it, somewhat, but they never did.

NO doubt about it, Wesley is/was tired of losing at USC. If he can do anything about it he is not going to let this team lose. He is clutch.

Wesley -- solid and made some big plays down the stretch.

KJ a very close second. Glad that game is over. Always a grinder.

I had to go with Wiltjer who set a fast pace at the beginning of the game and gave us the winning margin we were able to hold onto for the rest of the game. I only wish he could have gotten more touches in the second half. He was hot, then substitutions took him out, and he was never the go to guy again..........don't get that. Great defense by Bell, Draino, and yes Pangos too. Wesley was solid all night as usual and came through in the clutch once again when the rest of the team seemed unable to score. Karno was solid in the paint. In a game with very few highlights, I give the scoring of Wiltjer a slight nod over the defense of Bell and the clutch play of Wesley. Please bring back the 65 shot pace at BYU and stay out of the long droughts and slow pace that results in shots numbering in the low 50's. Very painful to watch. We didn't score one basket on a fast break and the transition game was non-existent. Why does our style of play swing so widely from game to game?

Hahahhahahaha. Love this right here. GBJ will get back on track. He always does. I think he is shooting 20% in his last 3 games or something I read last night, but it doesn't matter. His defense that he brings to the table all but "X"s that out or whatever you wanna call it. His shooting will get back to form. He is too good of a shooter not to.

In that case, Ill go with Draino.
