Whenever you win all the statistical categories except offensive rebounds and free throws against a team that has that caliber of a coach, it's a good night. I thought that defense tonight was pretty darn good. Although the fact that they missed sooo many bunnies helped skew the stats (see offensive rebounds). Let's hope like crazy that our offense travels well this year. Great job guys!

Dallas Morning News: 5 Thoughts: SMU can’t hang with Gonzaga after awful start to second half (http://collegesportsblog.dallasnews.com/2014/11/5-thoughts-smu-cant-hang-with-gonzaga-after-awful-start-to-second-half.html/)

SMU takes great pride in its defense, but the Mustangs had issues defending Gonzaga around the perimeter. The Zags did an excellent job of moving the ball around and finding the open man, shooting 41.7 percent from beyond the arc. And of course, there was no answer for Kevin Pangos. The star Gonzaga point guard did a great job moving away from the ball and creating opportunities for himself from behind the 3-point line. Pangos went 5-of-8 from three and finished with 17 points.

But back to Gonzaga, all the hype during the preseason centered on two things: that Pangos was finally healthy after battling ankle and toes issues last season, and that Wiltjer was going to be eligible. Throw in Byron Wesley, Sabonis, Josh Perkins and, eventually, Eric McClellan, and the hype was justified.

But here’s the real difference with this group: they are going to bully people in the paint, and they are going to be very, very good defensively.

Some funny quotes from SPORTS CENTER:
They're high on the Zags this year in Spo-Vegas
Kevin Pangos back for his 8th year (seriously feels like forever in a good way)
SMU shot 31% from the field, so they clearly did not stay at the DAVENPORT (hotel)
and Fewie took everybody to DICK'S (local burger joint) for Whammies and fries afterwards.

Whose stock has risen and fallen during the tip-off marathon?

A look at whose stock has risen and fallen during this year's college basketball tip-off marathon. Check back throughout Tuesday's action because this file will be updated all day:

Stock rising: Gonzaga's hopes for a deep March run

Two of the best Gonzaga teams Mark Few has coached are the Adam Morrison-led 2005-06 squad that fell apart in the Sweet 16 and the Kelly Olynyk-led 2012-13 squad that got shot down by Wichita State in the round of 32. Watching the Zags throttle highly touted SMU 72-56 on Monday night confirmed suspicions that this year's team has a chance to be better than both. One impressive aspect of Gonzaga's performance was the play of Kevin Pangos, who scored a game-high 17 points and offered a reminder he'll be far more explosive this season after being hampered by injuries last season. Another was the play of backup big men Domantas Sabonis and Angel Nunez, both of whom gave the Zags quality minutes with mammoth 7-footer Przemek Karnowski battling foul trouble. Most impressive, however, was Gonzaga's defense, which limited SMU to 31.1 percent shooting. The Mustangs aren't an especially effective perimeter shooting team and had trouble scoring inside against the Zags' stable of tall, long-armed big men, a combination that contributed to Gonzaga building its lead to as many as 25 in the second half.

Great quote from Coach Brown:

“I love them,” Brown said. “They’re deep. They have great guard play. They have depth and size – four bigs that all have a different dimension. They’ve got so many perimeter guys.

“They’ve got it all – and a great environment.”

Three times, at least, you hear "Wiltjer to Karnowski." That's going to be a very important connection.

GU did win offensive rebounds on a percentage basis, which is what really matters. SMU got a couple more o-Rebounds because they missed a lot more shots, therefore they had more opportunities.
