US Military Classic. Wlli be played in Okinawa.

Fewie doesn't like playing his friends but he will for this one.

Edited to add that the game will be played at Camp Butler (US Marine Corps base).

I was stationed there right after Desert Storm. It's a nice camp with all of the amenities one would ever need. Hopefully, the players won't be housed in the very same barracks I lived in during the early 90's. They were condemned by the Army in the 60's and subsequently deemed worthy of habitation by the Marine Corp. I swear there were paint chips on the ceiling (and lead based paint at that) that could sever an artery were they to become dislodged from their lofty nests.

Zags are in next season's Battle 4 Atlantis. Tourney has a huge payout ($2 mil per team) and the teams currently committed are Gonzaga, UConn, and Syracuse.

Oh, and is there any confirmation of Zags-Pitt anywhere? Top hit on Google is this thread......

Not anywhere close to accurate.

Correct you are....

"This is the richest preseason tournament, period," said George Markantonis, president and managing director of the Atlantis megaresort at Paradise Island, Bahamas. "Most tournaments don't pay the schools anything. Nothing. Nada."

Airfare and hotel for a traveling party is quite an enticement, but Markantonis has added quite a bit to that.

He said the resort dishes out almost $2 million in prize money. All eight teams get $150,000 just for taking the court.

"The two winners get $200,000 each, on top of the $150,000. That goes to (athletic) scholarships. Most tournaments are zero, and along comes Battle4Atlantis, and the winners get $350,000," he said.

Tournament director Lea Miller said the payout continues so that the third- and fourth-place teams get another $50,000 each and the fifth- and sixth-place teams get another $25,000. All the money goes to the school's athletic scholarship funds.

So it's $2M total and not per team. Easy correction to make. Oops. Still a huge payout though.

Coupla' things, GZ:
1. Didn't realize Few & Jamie Dixon were friends (if that was who you were alluding to). Dixon was on the studio crew for the GU/WVU NCAA Tourney game & I didn't get that vibe.

2. Is that just a 1 game road trip, or do they get a second there? Or maybe a layover game with the Rainbows (depending on who the new Coach is).

3. Just thought of a 3rd (& not really that important); does the Zag charter have the range to make that trip?

Thanks.

Hawaii looks a little out of the way, but that's probably a better layover than Siberia!

I don't know what kind of plane the Zags charter, but I doubt it has a range of ~6,000 miles.

Ok Woohoo, let me see if I can help you out. Okinawa is 15 hours ahead of you (St Clair MO. CST). If the time in MO. is 1:00 am today, then it is 4:pm in Japan (JST) today. If it is 11:00pm in MO. today, then it is 2:pm tomorrow in Japan. So it is possible for the game to be played on the same day as you or it could be tomorrow. Make sense? Let me try to explain it a different way. If you take a train traveling west, (you don't want to go east because trains have to go SLOW in Kentucky) how long would it take to get to Japan? Assume that the train was traveling at 70mph and it didn't need to stop for gas or potty breaks. Now here is the important question, would your wife let you drive the train as long as you stopped in Las Vegas for a couple of hours of shopping? Once you get to Okinawa, what time will it be in St Clair MO. and will it be today, tomorrow or yesterday? It's all quite simple once you think about it.

The primary question here is--- what color is the trains engine-- that will make all of the difference in the world.

I get it, it's hard.

Making it worse is the fact that they're ahead of us in time, so, like - if the game is in late november here, it's already in the middle of winter there, b/c it's on the other side of the date line, so you have to actually ad a season to when you're seeing it.

They will need to bring Christmas gifts to their hosts, or something.

Thanks.

I made a wisecrack about Pitt's "powderpuff" OOC 7 or 8 years ago in the hotel bar (Zag road trip). At the table was myself, Mark, Tommy, Ray and Leon. Maybe one other person. Shortly after my comment I was pulled aside by Leon and advised not to talk smack about Pitt as Mark and Jamie are close. Who knows ... he may have been jerking my chain. I know it wasn't long after that (a year or two maybe) that Jamie's sister tragically passed away.

And I know that Few does NOT like playing his friends (thus no games with Boise State or Long Beach State ... and he doesn't enjoy playing San Diego at all.

So that's why I made the "friends"'comment.

Edited to add - I believe I heard the words "Jamie is family" so maybe there wasn't that much chain jerking going on.
