Game story from Euroleague.net (http://www.euroleague.net/main/results/showgame?gamecode=53&seasoncode=E2014#!report):
Maccabi pulls off a road thriller

http://www.euroleague.net/rs/61950/4e8a81df-0469-44c6-884e-110cb73806b9/dd6/filename/jeremy-pargo-maccabi-electra-eb14.jpg

It was a complete thriller on Thursday night in Spain as reigning champs Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv pulled a tough road win at Unicaja Malaga by 66-70. Maccabi started controlling the game, but little by little, Unicaja regrouped and managed to complete the comeback, 58-57, despite a very poor start from the arc. However, in the final minutes, two technical fouls for the hosts, including a second for coach Joan Plaza, who ended up ejected from the game, allowed Maccabi to get some air and secure the win from the charity line. The win allows Maccabi to improve to 3-2 in Group B, while Unicaja drops to also 3-2 after losing two straight games. Devin Smith topped all scorers with his double-double of 24 points plus 10 rebounds, and Brian Randle added 12. For Unicaja, who started the game with a 2 of 18 from the arc and ended with a 6 of 28, Ryan Toolson and Will Thomas netted 16 points apiece.

The champs take the hosts by the throat early

The game started looking good for Maccabi, as the guests were soon up by 0-8, powered by Brian Randle's four points. On the other side, Unicaja was struggling with 0 of 4 from the arc until Kostas Vasileiadis get the hosts going with his own three, 3-10. Randle was up to six points soon, as Maccabi was finding easy baskets despite the defensive efforts of Unicaja. Jeremy Pargo managed to launch the guests with power bursts for easy buckets to make it 7-16, as Unicaja barely stayed alive thanks to free-throw points. Marquez Haynes made it a 10-point game with his layup for 8-18, while Will Thomas replied with Unicaja's first field goal in almost four minutes. Carlos Suarez stepped on court for his first minutes of the season as Unicaja managed to pull within 12-18, but after 10 minutes it was the reigning champs dominating, 13-21.

Unicaja wakes up, Maccabi keeps advantage

Devin smith put a start to the quarter with a baseline dunk but Fran Vazquez and Thomas combined with each other, both ways trading assists, in two straight plays to make it 17-23, despite a 1 of 13 from the arc by Unicaja. Maccabi was finding a green wall in offense now, and struggled to score while Unicaja seemed to be finding its rhythm in offense minute after minute. Also, the hosts were improving in the offensive rebounds department, allowing for second options, but Maccabi still managed to keep the edge to the game, 21-27 in minute 15. When Pargo fed Alex Tyus for an alley-oop and later, Randle ran an uncontested layup due to lack of defensive balance by Unicaja, it looked like the game was back on the same path, 23-31. However, Unicaja never gave up and Mindaugas Timinskas hit an acrobatic layup in the lane and then Caleb Green closed the quarter with a long jumper for a 29-35 Maccabi lead at the break.

The hosts explode in last two minutes

The second half started with Maccabi in control again as coach Joan Plaza and Pargo were called on respective technical fouls. Smith pulled up from the arc and hit a three for the guests' largest margin yet, 32-45. Ryan Toolson finally nailed Unicaja's second three after 18 attempts, and later he added a free throw to bring the game back to single digits, 36-45. It was then time for the three-point shoot-out as Haynes and Smith blasted a couple for Maccabi but Granger and Green did the same, at last, for Unicaja as the score quickly progressed to 43-53. Unicaja's defense tightened up and when Thomas put back the ball to make it a 6-point game and soon Stefan Markovic fed Thomas for the alley-oop that made it 50-54 as the crowd stood up on the stands and the game reached the end of the third period.

Unicaja completes comeback, Maccabi re-gains lead and wins

Smith kept shooting away from the arc and opened the decisive quarter with another three, but Unicaja's hustle in defense was now forcing Maccabi to mistakes. The problem was that the hosts were not finalizing the offensive actions on the other end, and the clock kept ticking with a 52-57. More than three minutes went by without points while Randle had to leave the court injured for the guests. A new game was beginning. Finally, Markovic finalized a Unicaja transition after great defense with a layup for 54-57 and 5 minutes to go. Suarez hit once from the stripe after a double offensive board to make it a two-point game, and when Toolson blasted a three for a Unicaja lead, 58-57, the Martin Carpena Arena exploded. Alex Tyus soon restored order on Maccabi's part, but a new tecnical foul was called on Vasileiadis and as a result, another on coach Plaza that had him ejected from the game. Maccabi went up to 58-61 and Unicaja was letting the game go allowing Maccabi for many offensive boards until Smith finalized for 58-63. Randle managed to get back on the court and the game entered the last 90 seconds with Vasileiadis' free throws for 63-66. Pargo kept its cool and found the right time to feed Alex Tyus for a slam dunk that seemed to seal the deal, 63-68, with 45 seconds to go. Granger looked for the rim but he was blocked, and on the other side Unicaja fouled the worst man they could as Smith added a new point from the stripe, 63-69. Vasileiadis looked for the three and found it with 15 seconds to go for 66-69 and Smith, again, hit one from the stripe to close the game, 66-70.

Jeremy sinks a three-pointer to win today's Maccaba Tel Aiv Euroleague game against Galatasaray Liv Hospital Istanbul, 97-94 (http://live.euroleague.net/gamesjs.aspx?ig=euro_163&st=20&dp=TBALLF4651FFFTXP4HELA1543&z=0)! From the Euroleague site's report (http://www.euroleague.net/main/results/showgame?gamecode=163&seasoncode=E2014#!report) of the game:

Pargo’s OT buzzer-beater lifts champs at Galatasaray

Jeremy Pargo pulled up for a game-winning three-pointer at the overtime buzzer to lift reigning Turkish Airlines Euroleague champion Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv to a 94-97 victory over Galatasaray Liv Hospital at Abdi Ipekci Arena in Istanbul. The drama-filled game saw Maccabi rally from a 10-point third-quarter deficit to lead by as many as 10 in the fourth. Galatasaray stormed back and Zoran Erceg’s free throw with 4 seconds left in regulation tied it at 85-85, but the big man could have put his team ahead if he made the second. Instead the game went to overtime, where the sides stayed close until Pargo made the difference. Maccabi improved to 5-1 to remain atop Top 16 Group E, while Galatasaray slipped to 2-4 after its third straight loss. Devin Smith led Maccabi with 24 points, Pargo finished with 17, Sylven Landesberg scored 14 and Sofoklis Schortsanitis 10. Smith and Landesberg were among three players that fouled out in the final minutes of the fourth quarter for Maccabi. Galatasaray was also shorthanded with starters Carlos Arroyo and Vladimir Micov sidelined. Zoran Erceg scored 29 points for the home team, Ender Arslan netted 20, Justin Carter 14, Sinan Guler13 and Patric Young 10.

Jeremy Pargo tied a career high with 26 points as Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv held off Zalgiris Kaunas 79-72 at Menorah Mivtachim Arena to improve its standing in Top 16 Group E. Maccabi improved to 7-4, while dealing a serious blow to Zalgiris playoff hopes as the Lithuanian champs fell to 4-7. Maccabi appeared to be cruising when it took a 12-point lead into the fourth quarter, however Zalgiris kept the hosts scoreless for six minutes in drawing within 66-60. Pargo ended the Maccabi drought and went on to score 10 points in the final four minutes to lead the champs to victory. Devin Smith added 19 points, while Alex Tyus scored 10 and Yogev Ohayon dished 7 assists for the winners. Arturas Milaknis made 4 of 7 threes in scoring 19 for Zalgiris. Lukas Lekavicius added 13 points and 6 assists, James Anderson tallied 12 and 6 and Paulius Jankunas corralled 11 rebounds in defeat.

First quarter: Pargo’s 10 points spark Maccabi

A tip-in by Edgaras Ulanovis and layup by Robertas Javtokas got Zalgiris off to the right start. Brian Randle found Tyus for an alley-oop slam and Maccabi’s first points. Pargo tied the score with a jumper. The visitors went back ahead on a Lekavicius rebound and layup. Maccabi took its first lead on a Tyus jumper from the foul line than made it 8-7. Lekavicius and Pargo traded threes to make it 11-10 midway through the quarter. Lekavicus split free throws to tie the score. Pargo drove through the Zalgiris defense for a layup and then drained a three to give him 10 points and Maccabi a 16-11 lead. Randle added a basket-plus-foul. After a timeout, Darius Sonaila sank a pair of jumpers to close the gap to 18-15.

Second quarter: Smith shines with 14 as hosts start to pull away

Sonaila sank another shot before Nate Linhart opened his account for Maccabi with a three-pointer. Will Cherry scored a tough layup in transition to make it 21-19. Ohayon lofted a pass to Randle for an alley-oop layup. The Randle set up Tyus for a one-handed slam. Cherry scored a tough basket to keep Zalgiris in the game. Tyus’s free throws made it a 6-point difference, Lekavicius kept Zalgiris in the game with a basket in the paint. Paulius Jankunas and Javtokas each missed from point blank range. Smith drained a jumper at the other end, Javtokas made it 29-25 midway through the quarter. Smith added free throwsm but his poor pass led to Milaknis’s fast break layup. The Zalgiris sharpshooter brought his team within 31-30 with a three-pointer. Smith banked in a shot and then drilled a triple as the hosts regained control. Songaila sank another jumper from the same spot as before, but Smith responded with free throws. Tyus rose high for a block of Lekavicius and Randle converted a layup at the other end. Smith’s triple gave Maccabi its first double-digit lead, 43-32, before Anderson’s floater made it 43-34 at halftime.

Third quarter: After Zalgiris climbs within 1, Maccabi difference swells to double figures

Milaknis opened the second half with a three from the corner. Ohayon drove for a Maccabi layup, but Anderson set up Javtokas with a no-look pass and the latter dunked. Then Lekavicius drilled a three to make it 45-42. Pargo fed Tyus for yet another alley-oop slam, but Javtokas scored inside and Jankunas made a baseline jumper to bring the visitors within 1. Smith recreated some margin for Maccabi with free throws and then a three-pointer for a 52-46 lead. Pargo added a basket-plus-foul. Milaknis tried to ignite the visitors with a tough layup and a three-pointer. Sofoklis Schortsanitis scored his first points in between. After Randle’s next basket, Schortsanitis free throws restored a double-digit Maccabi advantage. Anderson struck from downtown for Zalgiris, but Pargo matched him. Big Sofo spun for a reverse layup off the glass for a 66-54 cushion.

Fourth quarter: Zalgiris’s defense gives it a chance, but Pargo wraps up victory

Cherry drove for a layup and Anderson drilled a three to bring Zalgiris within 7. Jankunas split free throws to make it 66-60. The Zalgiris defense continued to shut Maccabi out, but its offense was unable to get going at the other side. After Anderson missed a contested fast break layup, Linhart rejected Milaknis. Pargo banked in a shot that ended a six-minute Maccabi drought. Milaknis kept Zalgiris in it with 2 free throws and a key offensive rebound. However a Pargo triple with 2:35 to go followed by a Randle steal seemed to restore the momentum to the hosts. Pargo free throws made it 73-62. Zalgiris came back within 7 on a Milaknis triple, but Pargo reached 25 points in helping Maccabi wrap up the victory.

After trailing for the first 29 minutes, Fenerbahce Ulker rallied to beat reigning champion Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv 80-72 at Ulker Sports Arena for the club’s first-ever Euroleague playoff victory. The Turkish champs will look to keep up the momentum when they host Game 2 of the best-of-five playoffs series on Thursday. The game featured a 20-point swing in 11 minutes between the third and fourth quarters. Alex Tyus put Maccabi up 46-56 with four minutes to go in the third quarter. Luka Zoric scored 6 straight points to trigger an 11-0 run and Andrew Goudelock gave Fenerbahce its first lead, 59-58, late in the quarter. Kenan Sipahi opened the fourth quarter with a three as Fener started to pull away. Jeremy Pargo had Maccabi within 5 with five minutes remaining, but Jan Vesely scored 8 points in the final four minutes – 6 of which came on put-back layups or dunks – to pave the hosts’ way to the win. Vesely finished with a career-high 23 points, while Nemanja Bjelica added 13 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Pargo scored 19 first-quarter points and finished with 25, which was 1 short of Maccabi’s record in the playoffs, which he already shares with two other players.
