St Mary's 63

It is sure nice to get that first game out of the way. And now it's time to get our focus on St Mary's. The Zags should play better. And I know that they can. I certainly hope Kevin Pangos is playing better too. He really had a very tough time scoring last night. And I think he will. Kevin is just too gritty of a player to not have a better game. I am so glad that the Zags get to play St Mary's because we are truly rivals, and I am hoping that America gets to see how good Gonzaga really is tonight. And not only how good they are but more importantly how tough that they are

I love how our Zags fought last night. I love how this team just never gives up and finds a way to win. The unexpected so often seems to happen with the Zags. Who could of guessed it would take Sam Dower making 15 free throws in a row, and a last second shot by David Stockton to beat Santa Clara? Come on! Keep your hands down. So I sure don't know what is going to happen, but I believe something spectacular will. But as in most of our games this year, I believe it will be defense that plays the most important part one more time. I just believe that Few and his staff have figured out a good defensive plan against the Gael's in the past two games with them, and they will do it again. I think the battle between Holt and Bell is classic.

I would love to see Kevin have one very good game tomorrow nite, and I hope we get to see our Zags make a few more threes. I see smiles galore, on the faces of our Zags and all the Zags' fans. Go Gonzaga.

Go Zags!!!

Reborn, I echo everything you mentioned above.

I also think we'll see more of Barham. Gary Bell will wanna make up for the travel call. Pangos really didn't show up last night, but I'm sure he will tomorrow. What can be said of Dower and Stockton? Those guys are clutch. Karno continues to excell.

I don't feel St Mary's will be a big problem, but we can't take them lightly. We know each other so well there shouldn't be any surprises. We just need to take care of Holt and Waldork and we'll be OK. AND I believe in my heart that BYU or San Fran will be a challenge but again, we'll be OK.

I might be be a little more concerned about the empty days between Tuesday and the NCAA Tourney. I'd love to see a game in between with anyone just to stay loose.

I know now I get ahead of myself, but it is what it is...

GO ZAGS!!!

Now, THIS is a coach I like to beat. Randy Freakin Bennett. And this time, we should blow them out. DB43 didn't play but what? 4 minutes? Did he even play? Bad matchups for him, I am sure. I know he'll be getting more time this go round, as he can defend better against the guards of SMC.

Pretty confident about this one. Gootta add another Top 100 win.

Go Zags.

This game will be close. The vampire searching for blood and count Bennett watching the whole underworld. The problem? Few runs with garlic and stakes and too big of hearts. We pull it out in hard fought goolish grinder.

Not to brag but I predicted an uncomfortably close game against SCU and even being down at half (though I did understate it), so I think I have a decent read of the team right now.

Much closer game than last two against SMC, but, unlike SCU, we never really let SMC get much of a lead. We lead by four to eight through the first twenty and then pull away to seven to twelve.

I fear Few is doing what he does - tightening up, both in attitude and bench use. Such a scary sign. I'll be much happier if he uses the bench more in the second half

About that guy named "Levesque,"

As the Zags give 'em heck!

I'm torn on this one… I figured if GU had come out blazin' last night, it would mean they have found some rhythm after last weekend's games. But now it seems like Jeckyl and Hyde - either one can show up on any given night. I think it will be much closer than last two games against SMC. Although after last night, it could mean match ups are a bigger issue (SCU seemed to match up with us well, and we seem to have great match ups with SMC). I'm going with another nail-biter...

Waldow, despite his scary vampire mouthpiece, is afraid of Karnowski. Zags win this one easy.

This will not be as easy as the regular season games. RandyB will have figured out some solutions for Shem's total dominance over Waldo. Expect a fouling strategy and a lot of inside screens to help Waldo handle Shem.
Previously SMC has not shot well, mainly because of defense by the zags. They don't get totally shut down this time, so they will make it closer.

I'm getting more excited (Sunday night). There's no better game at this time of year then Gonzaga playing St Mary's. Classic rivalry right now. I'm so glad we get to play Randy Bennett and his Gaels.

I was really impressed with the support (crowd noice) for Gonzaga last night. It sounded really loud on TV, and I'm sure it helped our Zags. That was one tough game last night. What a finish. The ending began to remind me of the Butler game last year. It was great to see that the Zags had enough time to straighten out that kind of crazy ending. And they sure did, and it was Stockton who got to do it. I'm sure it'll be even louder tomorrow night.

Looking forward to the battle between Holt and Bell. It too is classic. Two warriors. I have always liked Holt because he's from Oregon, and he's been a great player to watch. St Mary's is a good basketball team. They've got good players. Many whom we've seen for a few years now. I think it's bad Karma. Randy B is under a dark cloud this year, and it shows. They will be doing all they can to try to prove that they are a much better team then their record shows. We'll see.

I must admit that I've never liked Waldo. But then again I never liked Sam Ham. And I really do not like Levesque at all. That is one player whom I hope really struggles tomorrow night. He has struggles against us both times this year and I hope he does again. Oh and before I forget, Carter makes my stomach curl. He tries to be so cool, but he's not. He too has had a difficult time finding his target from the 3 pt range this year against Gonzaga; and I sure hope he is Hopeless in Vegas. Even Walker I don't care for. I guess you might say that I really don't like St Mary's. Maybe it's Bennett. Never like him either. Never. I've always taken great pleasure in watching the Zags beat him, and watching his classless act as he walks as fast as he can past Mark Few, coaches and team, and shows total disrespect for our team. I do not worry at all about our Zags getting ready to beat the heck out of the Gaels tomorrow tonight. I want to see the classless Randy act one more time....

Go Zags!!!

If we are sloppy and can't hit our threes, but Karno and Dower do their thing, we win by only 5. If we take care of the ball, defend and can hit 35+% from three, we win by 15+ Because we know Karno and Dower will still do their thing. So I will predict somewhere in between.

Zags by 10.

Question is whether Stocks and Pangos, who've conclusively demonstrated this season that they can't guard a grade school crosswalk, can contain Gael's Stephen Holt & James Walker. Smart bet is that they can't. Not all bad though because Waldow has shown for sure that he's impotent/intimidated vs either Shrem or Sam, his fangish mouthpiece adding a certain comic irony to his act. Holt & Walker won't be enough by themselves even if Beau L chips in. Gaels, sadly, are a sorry team as demonstrated in Hawaii last year & in San Diego earlier. GU losing to SMC could happen, but it would take an epic choke. Gaels rank 60+ lower than GU in PPG, 100+ lower in cumulative RPG, 110 positions lower in FG percentage per game. Fact is, St Mary's this season is no where near who we thought they would be & GU is only somewhat less.

Santa Clara had twice shown they have the personnel to challenge GU, and they did it a third time on Saturday. SMC has acted like a victim of a subway mugging, abashed & in shock in their prior meetings with GU. I see nothing to prevent a three peat for Zags excepting a Tonya Harding-like episode of multiple knee cap busting before the game. It could happen. It's Las Vegas, right? GU 55 (w/broken legs) SMC 32 (it could get ugly).

That sounds very reasonable to me.... of course if either team is hot and making 3's....that changes the game entirely..defense will win, I hope.

Game Day! Bingo! Waking up to the sound of ZagNation in my brain. Oh Oh! It could be another romp tonight. Visions of Randy B leaving the arena mad one more time and snubbing the classy Zags. I also see Pangos with a big smile on his face. That certainly IS good news. I see Zag fans cheering with Zest and dancing in their seats. ZagNation barks with pride, heads held up high. There's nothing quite like Zad Game Day. It's a good fight for a time, but the Zags will knock 'em out!

How many points did those studs score last time they played? I bet they really lit up that horrible Zag defense! Let's see: Holt 0-6, Walker 0-4. I guess Bell must have guarded them both at the same time.

SMC can be better than their two double-digit losses to us and their overall record. I'm sure the Zags know they need to come out on fire defensively like last game. Question is will they actually commit from the opening tip b/c you know SMC will. They want this one as much as any SMC team has. Zags have shown they can contain Waldo and Holt if we play aggressive defense. Need to get Levesque out of the equation early as we did last game because he's can be their glue guy with hustle/assists/rebounds/occasional 3pt.

I yelled and screamed my head off. I was sitting next to a couple of Krazy Kennel guys and we had a fun time. You may have seen me hanging over the railing beating on it! The next morning I couldn't talk for awhile. It was soooo worth it!

Three things have really saved our consecutive tournament streak so far:

Beating West Virginia @ WVU by hitting clutch free throws at the end.
Sam Dowers shot heard round the WCC @ Santa Clara
David Stockton looping around the shot in the WCC Tournament, and Kyle Dranginis' block (whether the block actually counted or not, IDK, but if so, Its here)

As an SMC fan, here's hoping for a competitive game. It's one of those years where you won't hear much posturing and braggadocio from us Gael fans. But simply worth noting that the last couple of meeting the Gaels played epically bad. Especially the last one - that night absolutely nothing went right. Now, how much of that was the Gaels having a bad game, and how much was because of the Zags (matchups, gameplan)? That's what decides tonight. This year the outside shooting has been really inconsistent. At times great (Holt, Carter, Walker, and even Levesque can light it up any given night), and at other times just woefully bad. The last few years it used to fluctuate between great and good. This year it's been great to nonexistent. Saturday, it was pretty good, which bodes well for their confidence out of the gate. But maintaining that confidence has been another Achilles' heel for this year's Gaels. In the past, they could weather a GU run and you knew an SMC counterpunch would come eventually. This year, a GU run of 10 or more should pretty much end the game. We all knew it 10 minutes into the McKeon game - they weren't coming back. They just lack the toughness of recent teams. Anyway, the last couple were SO bad I can't help but expect a closer game. All the best after tonight.
