When Shem (or anyone) blocks a shot and then catches the ball, is that counted as both a block and a steal? Or just a block?

Good question. Theoretically, could also be considered a block and a rebound??

Block occurred first.....Shem would be team leader in steals otherwise wouldn't that look odd on a stat sheet

Counted as block & rebound

Look at 18:08 & 18:07 in 1st half of play-by-play

A block is a missed shot. No steal. Just a rebound.

BTW, has anybody else noticed how good Shem is at not blocking shots out of bounds. Much better to keep it in play per Bill Russell.

Blocks and rebounds to not count as steals, and a block is not considered a rebound.

Also:

A ball does not need to actually "rebound" off the rim or backboard for a rebound to be credited. Rebounds are credited after any missed (but not blocked) shot, including air balls.

Although not credited as a rebound, a ball that falls to the ground after a shot is unsuccessfully taken by another player on the same team can be classified as a recovery.

Rebound to person who gathers ball in for defense gets the credit...but Shem comes up with his blocks majority of time which is a thing of beauty

He had some nice blocks tonight but his field goal production was abysmal (1).

Karnowski is now tied for 10th (with Calvary '97-'98) on the Zag all time list for blocks in a season.

Who is next up and can he catch them?

Assuming he averages 2/game for the rest of the season and GU plays at least 2 games in the tourney, he could theoretically tie or pass AD for #1. If it doesn't happen this year I would bet on it happening next season.

One "stat" per play....

I think he will realistically end up between Turiaf and Sacre for 4th. But all he needs is 2 or 3 games with 5+ blocks and he will end up with 70+.

I would love Shem to have that honor!
