It sure sounds like it.

Jim Meehan wrote a piece on it this morning and, if the numbers make sense, the WCC will be playing in March at the 7000+ seat Orleans Arena. Gonzaga's AD Mike Roth is in favor of it, and Commish Gilleran sounds optimistic. The Orleans is over a mile from the Vegas strip and you park for free, directly enter the arena instead of filing your way a casino to get there.

I would attend in Vegas, I would not attend in cities not named Spokane or Portland (out of the WCC cities). I think Vegas raises the profile of the event, is competetively fair, and convenient. Hopefully it makes financial sense.

this would be ideal.

maybe it would draw out some more fans of the california schools, even if the basketball wasnt the main draw to them

Bob: For this coming year, 2008? And not in San Diego?

No, for 2009. This season's tourney will be in San Diego.

Thanks for the clarification, El Voce. That's what I thought.

Do we know what the dates of the WCC are going to be this year? 28th-3rd? 7th-10th?

Viva Las Vegas!-- I'm there--

It looks like the pre-season tourney in Maui/Hawaii in 2009 (or is it 2010?) and Vegas in 2009 -- 2 road trips.

Considering that cheap flights to Vegas from NY are prevalent, I might be going to some WCC tourney games in the future.

I don't know if the numbers make sense, but its sure alot easier to talk the wife into letting me go if it's across town. And I thought being stationed in Vegas was a curse. :D

vegas would be awesome...have to think it would be a major draw for people (especialy the college students) to attend

schools just need to get on board with gonzaga in having the tourney be held the first weekend of spring break...most schools dont do that (and Gonzaga often does...not always though)

I'll make the trip to SD this year

November of 2009 is Maui. Next November (2008) is Orlando. Basketball season, unlike baseball and 99% of football, starts one year and finishes the following year, 50/50. It can mess up your math. :)

I can only imagine what Bowser will have to write.

I can only imagine what it would be like to meet up with Bowser in person

Rest assured that the burgeoning DFW Alumni Chapter will send a sizable contingent.

Now that I'm back in public accounting, I'll be ready for a road trip in mid-March.

Is the MWC having their tourney there at the same time by chance?

The MWC tourney (women & men) for 2008 will be at the Thomas & Mack Center on the UNLV campus from March 11-15. The MWC tourney isn't in Vegas every year though. I know it was in Denver a couple of years ago. I would imagine the conference will continue to rotate the sites, but I'm not sure.

The MWC tourney is @ UNLV's arena and as far as I can tell would start the day after the WCC's tourney ends.

So if you attended both you could go to games for a over a week straight...

edit: like CDC said - it isn't always in Vegas, but it usually is their. And the Denver event didn't do well at all ($) so it may stay in Vegas for a while. Either way, there won't be any overlap of dates - if both tourneys keep the same schedules they've had in the recent past.
