    Most used lineups

I've completed my system for pulling out all of the lineups and possessions from the play-by-play data.
There have been 102 unique lineups used this season, most only once or twice.

Here are the ten lineups, ordered by net efficiency, used for the most possessions so far this season.

Times used refers to any deployment, which may be the start of a period or an in-game substitution.
Possessions are the average of the offensive and defensive possessions. These are not always equal.
Net efficiency is the difference between points scored per offensive possession minus points allowed per defensive possession.

Wow. Awesome post. I noticed that when both dower and karno are in together we are not that efficient. I also see how effective going small can be. However, a lot of this is correlational. I think it would be good to know when these lineups were used, not that I'm suggesting someone do that.

What's the lineup of Gary, Kevin, Kyle, Sam, Shem look like?

Thanks. And I agree about PK and SDJ not being the most efficient combo. DB comes out as the biggest winner here.

Clearly, certain matchups create varying problems. You can't just pick the most efficient lineup and use it all of the time. It is fun to know the results, though.

interesting to note that the twin towers with Pango, Bell and stockton or Draino, Pango and Stockton are the worst and second worst efficiencies

Going single big and 4 out seems to be our most consistent efficiency ratings consistently no matter what combination of the 4 out 1 in we use

Generally true. But some of the lesser used examples faired poorly, some did ok. Small sample sizes.

                Thanks, NC. Interesting stuff.

Seems like this study also reveals we have a fair number of "specialists" who don't necessarily work well together. But seem to do their best work when entering the game separately & not playing together. PK & SD appear to pop up in this snapshot, for e.g. That your read ?

Upon reflection, this seems to echo Hoop's take, only from a different angle.

                  a question

since GBj has been gone several games, which dynamic seems to fit best with which four others in that instance ? Or did I miss that ?

                  thanks

Item 2 in the table, Gam. 127 possessions with a plus 0.48 efficiency. Overall, the most productive lineup.

The most efficient on defense, as well.

I'm excited to see how this lineup functions on defense again, too, since PK's defensive improvement started right before Bell got hurt.

This is outstanding. Love looking at the numbers. Great work NC.

Now if we could just get it broken out by, if GU is ahead or behind, and for Saturday games with a pre-5:30pm tip time. Then I'd be really impressed!!
