Last year the Hilltoppers had a season similar to Gonzaga's season last year in wins and losses. Below are two links, one to their 2007-2008 roster, the other to their 2006-2007 stats... Actually, you must click on "2008-2007 Stats", but what you'll see is why this game in Alaska could be incredibly tough--

It will clearly be our first real test, and if the guys go into it thinking they just need to show up to win, it'll be an L. This is where Pendo and Pargo must be strong leaders.

Courtney Lee, their 6-5 wing, is a pro in the making. Check out draftexpress.com's evaluation of him at LeBron's camp. He's not going to be an easy cover:

Sun Belt star Courtney Lee did not face the fiercest of competition this past season at Western Kentucky, but donít tell him that. He was absolutely fearless going up against LeBron James, attacking the Cavaliers guard at every available opportunity. Those in attendance could not stop gawking about the confidence that this small school guard had going up against arguably the best player the NBA has to offer. Lee shot the ball with consistency from beyond the three-point arc, displayed a nice pull-up jumper, and got to the rim via his explosive first step. He did not seem to be the strongest defender, but his offensive prowess should be enough to land him a spot in the 2008 NBA Draft.

he actually went to high school about 4 miles from where I live. Also freshman Steffphon Pettigrew was Mr Basketball - Kentucky last year. (We have an Indiana/Kentucky All-Star series, which Indiana dominates, but I saw Pettigrew against Eric Gordon/Matt Howard/Jajuan Johnson/Etwaun Moore/etc this June at Conseco Fieldhouse.

What's your evaluation of Pettigrew, Butler Guy? Spill the beans. :)

How does Lee compare to Morris Almond, and how does WKU compare to Rice last year, a team that many projected as an NCAA team? Is Lee better than Almond? Is Lee better than Rodney Stuckey?

Lee is a better outside shooter than Stuckey or Almond. Granted, I have not seen Lee play very much, but that's the first thing that comes to mind.

WKU should be better than Rice or Baylor last year. They will be a step up from GU's first three opponents, but Gonzaga should beat them. That being said, they can lose to them.

There is a new Scout.com WKU board that has been started just this year. Its not as popular as the Hilltopper Haven yet, but it is easier to register on. Come on over if any of you are so inclined!
