Zags Baseball Signs Seven To National Letters Of Intent

SPOKANE, Wash. – Recognized by Perfect Game as one of the Top 100 recruiting classes in the nation and the best in the state of Washington, Gonzaga University baseball head coach Mark Machtolf announced the addition of seven players to the 2015 roster Friday.

“Overall I strongly believe this recruiting class ranks up with one of the best in program history,” Machtolf stated. “Coach Danny Evans and Coach Steve Bennett continue to recruit great players, but better young men that fit the mold of the Gonzaga program. A thank you must go out to our past and current player for developing a culture that continues to attract the best players on the west coast.”

Joining the Bulldogs next year is Justin Blatner, a 6-3 left-handed pitcher/outfielder from Gonzaga Prep high school in Spokane, Wash., Gage Burland, a 6-2 right-handed pitcher/outfielder from East Valley high school in Otis Orchards, Wash., Tyler Frost, a 5-10 right-handed pitcher/outfielder from Greenway high school in Peoria, Ariz., Calvin LeBrun, a 5-10 left-handed pitcher from Sunnyslope high school in Phoenix, Ariz., Nick Nyquist, a 6-2 infielder from Coeur D’Alene high school in Coeur D’Alene, Idaho, Branson Trube, a 5-11 outfielder from Mountain View high school in Meridian, Idaho, and Jace VanDeBrake, a 6-2 shortstop from West Valley high school in Yakima, Wash.

“This class is very well balanced and will continue to help the Zags compete for the West Coast Conference title for many years,” Machtolf said. “From a pitching standpoint, we were able to secure immediate innings on the mound that will feature both power and pitch ability from both the right and left side. Our offense and defense will see another influx of speed and athleticism to the Bulldog lineup in 2015. This class defines ‘Zag’ and we cannot wait to see them all in a Gonzaga uniform next fall.”...
