Celtics guards are all ball hog chuckers, they almost never gave Kelly the ball.

During this pre-season, especially with the perception that Boston is going to be really bad, the guards are basically competing for Rondo's back up minutes. Kelly will get his touches when the coaches call on him. Hopefully, when the games really matter, we will see a different cohesive team.

I hope.

The Celtics are very much in rebuilding mode. The new coach, Brad Stevens, is using the preseason to figure out which players will play meaningful roles on this team and which ones will not. Players are spending a lot of time on the floor auditioning for their roster spots and for their playing time. Any player that cannot buy into Coach Stevens's "team-first" mindset is going to have a hard time working his way into the rotation once the regular season starts.

That's a good post.

I had read a little on espn boston site, just to read what they might be saying about Kelly and came across a similar point. Stevens was quoted as saying that they were so young that, initially, wins will be less a measure of where they are than whether they are getting better as a team game to game. As you said, he is putting a huge emphasis on team. I got the impression that a guy could come in and put up Melo numbers but if he had a poor team attitude (some say like Melo) and wasn't distributing to make the team better, he wouldn't last long.

Kelly is a great teammate, should thrive. We all hated to lose him but we could not have seen him dropped into a better position.
