Jesse Wade commits to Gonzaga for the first pick-up of the 2015 class!

Slipper Still Fits ‏@slipperstillfit

WOW...Big #ZagClass15 (maybe #ZagClass17) news, as Jesse Wade has committed to Gonzaga. He visited unofficially this Summer
1:25 PM - 4 Oct 13 (https://twitter.com/slipperstillfit/status/386225479440560128)

thought he was a BYU lean and didn't even know Gonzaga put out an offer. He may go on a LDS mission before playing ball for the Zags, though

Pretty big commitment for the Zags here. He has all the markings to be one of the best if not the best PG in the West next year especially if he puts on some weight. Even better that he is taking a 1 year sabbatical.

More tidbits from SFF, including that Jesse Wade will not suit up for GU until 2017... so we still have 3 schollies open for 2015 (on top of the 2 from 2014 (in the unfortunate event if we don't land anyone else for 2014):

Great points, his defense and vision instantly brought images of Bouldin as well for me.

Kid looks like he has excellent handle, and good frame to add strength. You can tell he has good hops for 6'1 when he gets up to block that post from the weak side.

I thought his shot was a little Pangos esque

Might be good timing depending on just how good Josh Perkins ends up being. Hope we dont need him in 2015, maybe a mature guy like him can slide right in to the PG spot... if its open when he gets here. Two years is a lot of rust and if we happen upon some other big point guard recruits in the mean time... wow, BYU recruiting has got a whole other level of difficulty to it doesnt it?

When I hear of guys accepting offers, I am constantly hoping it is the 4-5 star guys we are wanting. This seems out of the blue, but it is the fact regarding open offers. First come first serve so lets hope we get the best first.

As a Jr now, Jesse still has growing and development to do and so he is in control of his own destiny. An extra 20 lbs and 3 inches in 2 years could mean he is a 4-5 star kid who Few scouted and got early. Few knows what he looks for in sophomores and jrs in high school. So this obviously is great for Gonzaga.

glad to hear about the mission. kid looks good and i'm excited. biggest concern would be physical development, and 2 years of clean living between high school and college should take care of that.

really hope we get kendall small in the meantime, as well. senior perkins, junior small, and just-off-his-mission-freshman wade is a dream trio.

Love this pick up! 4 years before he even plays a game here, imagine the level his game will be at by that time...

Fits the mold of the guards we've had lots of success with in the past (and now, with Pangos), Few and company know a good fit when they see one.

Thing that sticks out most to me from watching his highlights is the confidence. Aggressive scorer with a great feel for the game. The kind of player that's always very underrated because physically he doesn't jump out at you...kid can flat out ball.

Stoked about this commitment, but I'm not real familiar with how missions work...maybe you guys can help. Won't it significantly hurt his development not to play competitive basketball for 2 years, and not be able to focus on drills, cardio, lifting weights, etc.?

Shooting, shooting, and more shooting. Would've liked to have seen some ball-handling, some dishing, some driving to the basket, etc.

Since he's off in the future a ways, and if he grows another four inches or so, he might slide over and play some "three."

If he's another Derrick Ravio, here's hoping he's as good a free-throw shooter but a step faster.

missions are interesting beasts and i am far from an expert. however, one of the few recreations that are allowed is basketball. he won't get real coaching, but he should get plenty of opportunities to ball-- probably mostly with older and more physically developed men.

he will certainly have plenty of opportunity for physical activity, and should be able to put on a little muscle and remain in reasonable shape. it will be more like rocky in that russian village than drago in the superlab, tho.

if you are too worried about it, just look at haws, noah hartsock, etc. i would bet (though i could certainly be wrong), that the wade years 1-4 that we get in 2017+ are better than the ones we would have gotten starting in 2015.

What a fascinating and pleasant surprise at the end of my day.

This will make for some interesting contests @BYU... assuming both teams are still in the WCC.

I'm not a Mormon, but I love this pick-up purely for diversity's sake. Speaks to the GU brand. Maybe they'll send him to Spokane or Coeur d'Alene for his mission. :)

2015 guard Wade commits to GU

Jesse Wade, a 6-foot, 170-pound point guard at Davis High in Kaysville, Utah, has orally committed to Gonzaga’s basketball program but it could be a while before he wears a GU uniform.

I just exchanged text messages with Wade, who is boarding a plane for home after visiting Gonzaga the last two days. I hope to talk with him in a couple hours.

For now, there's a bit more on Wade below, along with some articles from Utah papers.

Wade announced his decision via twitter. He is the first member of Gonzaga’s 2015 recruiting class, but Wade is expected to serve a two-year LDS Mission before joining the Bulldogs. GU’s 2014 class includes point guard Josh Perkins and guard Silas Melson.

“Their winning tradition, their coaches and the campus is amazing,” Wade told the Deseret News. “The people there are so nice and the players are great people. It just felt right.”

More on Jesse Wade at the link and links to articles.

Jesse Wade, a 6-foot, 170-pound point guard at Davis High in Kaysville, Utah, has orally committed to Gonzaga’s basketball program but it could be a while before he puts on a GU uniform.

Wade, the first member of Gonzaga’s 2015 recruiting class, said he’s planning on serving a two-year LDS Mission after high school before joining the Bulldogs. GU’s 2014 class includes point guard Josh Perkins and guard Silas Melson.

“It’s just the winning tradition, the coaching staff is amazing and the players, talking to all of them, they’re great guys,” Wade said of his reasons for committing to Gonzaga. “It was fun talking to them and all the people around campus were so nice. Everything just felt right.”

So feel free to ask away if you have any specific questions about the missionary experience.

He will have limited opportunities to develop his basketball game, but he will come in as a very mature Freshman with 4 years of eligibility. I see this as a huge positive, especially at the PG position.

Typically missionaries work 6 days a week with one "preparation day" to go shopping, wash clothes and hopefully in his case play some weekly basketball.

He has no idea where he will go on his mission and won't find out until he submits an application, he will only know the location and language a few months before departure. Mormons believe that these decisions are inspired and come directly from one of the 12 Apostles of the church who are at the top of the leadership hierarchy, he will have no say whatsoever regarding the location.

The LDS church recently changed the mission rules so he can go on his mission when he is 18 prior to enrolling at GU. Up until recently the age was 19 which would have been much more complicated.

Article from West Coast Convo about the Zags' acquisition of Jesse Wade:

http://westcoastconvo.com/2013/10/04/gonzaga-lands-2015-guard-jesse-wade/

Wade is the type of point guard that will absolutely punish you from the three-point arc. He has a lightning quick release and a smooth stroke to boot. He can drive in the lane and finish at the rim if the opportunity presents itself. He can make the occasionally flashy pass as well. He currently is a solid defender, but increasing strength and agility will do wonders for Wade down the road, especially at the college level. His play is similar to former Gonzaga point guard Derek Ravio.

DR was also a great passer and had a nice crossover. I can see similarities with Wade as far as his release but will want to see more video on his vision. Nonetheless im excited as heck to see where Wade will be on a skill level in 3-4 years when he will actually suit up. Pretty crazy to think that we will have to wait that long, who knows how much he will grow by then.

So underrated b/c of who he followed such incredible talent. He followed some amazing guards and was on a teams with Morrison, Ronny and Batista - - pretty easy to get lost in that crowd - - anyone that reminds people of him is a steal.

Incidentally, I love the fact that a kid can be recruited by Harvard, Stanford, Vanderbilt and hear GU in the same context - could not be prouder.

And thx Fanatic for the break down of missions. I am probably not really a mission type of guy, but I think that at 19 years old, if someone had said, 2 months from now, you could be anywhere in the world, I'd think that is pretty cool.

Ya know for one of my favorite players, even I forget just how quick of a release Ravio had. He was always an incredible shooter, but they ball was leaving his hands before it even go there!

Im still trying to wrap my head around the 2 years without playing thing. Obviously it works as weve seen recently with BYU players, but that is a long time to go without coaching. He does come in as a 20 year old freshmen though. that maturity alone might be what makes such a big difference in the missionary athletes.

Typical Mormom daily schedule on mission:

https://www.lds.org/manual/preach-my-gospel-a-guide-to-missionary-service/introduction-how-can-i-best-use-preach-my-gospel?lang=eng

Missionary Daily Schedule*

6:30 a.m.

Arise, pray, exercise (30 minutes), and prepare for the day.

7:30 a.m.

Breakfast.

8:00 a.m.

Personal study: the Book of Mormon, other scriptures, doctrines of the missionary lessons, and other chapters from Preach My Gospel, the Missionary Handbook, and the Missionary Health Guide.

9:00 a.m.

Companion study: share what you have learned during personal study, prepare to teach, practice teaching, study chapters from Preach My Gospel, confirm plans for the day.

10:00 a.m.

Begin proselyting. Missionaries learning a language study that language for an additional 30 to 60 minutes, including planning language learning activities to use during the day.

“It’s always been, you know, more of a dream school,” said Wade. “I’ve always wanted to play there.”

After attending a team camp this summer and visiting the campus earlier this month, Gonzaga offered a scholarship.

“They just have a tradition of great teams,” Wade said of his decision to commit.

Wade said they also have a strong tradition of producing talented, scoring point guards who make plays.

“That’s what I hope I’ll be able to do,” said Wade. “I’m just waiting for my turn at Gonzaga.

He has to go somewhere in 2017. It might as well be here. Remember Roger Staubach? (some of you younger zags can google him) Great prospect for NFL, spent 4 years at Annapolis, with Pro teams drooling, and fans worrying he would get a career-ending injury. Came into NFL as an 'older' prospect, and became one of the all time greats. In terms of pro teams the mission is much more daunting than for us. He will be a young man coming into D1 ball with a couple of years of maturity, emotionally, physically, etc. to compete against a lot of 18,19, and 20 year olds. It is the college team he plays for that gets the benefit of his mission.
and
if he changes his mind, and goes the way of Jabari Parker, an LDS guy who chose to not go on a mission, well, I think we could live with that too

Either way we win.

We get immediate help or,

We get a very mature freshman - - - I don't know the mechanics of missions but I do know that there are intense and can really cleanse one of the "all about me" that infects too many athletes. I wish him well.

His range is impressive...most of those 3's were from 2 to 4 feet behind the line...accuracy from that distance makes a player exponentially harder to guard. Jimmer had it for BYU and it killed us. Kevin shows it at times. I know its a highlight reel but if it is indicative this kid is going to be fun to watch. The other thing is his elevation when he shoots the three ball ...togehter with distance its a terrific one-two combo making him very hard to guard.

A very nice player. While I'd prefer a 6'5" guard with similar skills, so would everyone.

Seems like a Pangos clone, yet more refined and a better shot at the same point in their careers. I could see him as a huge contributor, especially since he'll essentially be a junior-aged freshman that'll have some life experience and will physically be stronger.

Jesse Wade and the Davis Darts lost thier final regular season game of the season last night 69-66:

http://www.standard.net/stories/2014/02/26/boys-basketball-layton-finishes-regular-season-victory-over-davis

Jesse Wade led the Darts with 22 points, including four 3's

Davis (19-2 overall, 11-1 league) closed the regular season with a bookend loss, separated by 19 impressive wins in between and can only hope that its body of work will carry over into next week's tournament.

In a game that tested nerves on both sides, the Lancers (16-7, 8-4) came from five points down after three quarters to outscore Davis 21-13 over the final eight minutes.

and in the game before that on Feb 21:

http://www.standard.net/stories/2014/02/21/davis-boys-basketball-wraps-region-1-title

Wade finished with a career-high 28 points and also six assists on the night, Porter added 23 and seven dimes and both guards each pulled down six rebounds.

Snippit (much more at the link):

Last June, Gonzaga University watched the Davis Basketball Team at a camp and later recruited Wade. Although he already had offers from three other colleges the point-guard accepted, and explained that “I prayed about it [and] Gonzaga felt right to me. It’s always been a dream school for me… I thought it was a good fit, and John Stockton went there.” Currently, he is nominated for the Gatorade Player of the Year Award and waits for the announcements. - See more at: http://www.davishighnews.com/2911/#sthash.MlKE5esy.dpuf

Kind of OT, but wondering how offers work. If GU offers 3 guards, are they told that the first to commit gets the spot? Does a commit automatically void other offers or does GU have to tell kids that their offer is contingent on nobody else accepting an offer for the same spot? Watching various threads it seems that if they all accepted at once GU would have the equivalent of 2 teams instead of one.

Go Bulldogs - Next Year!

I'm not an insider, but I believe that commitments aren't final. I think that the team can take away a player's scholarship at any time (say, if a better player commits). I hope, however, that GU gives the scholarship to the first player that commits (why offer if we don't truly want the player) and gets rid of their offers to other players at the same position, even if they are better.

webspinnre
05-04-2014, 08:39 AM
An offer isn't final until the letter of intent is signed. That being said, if a player accepts an offer and commits, it's pretty bad form to then pull the offer, and other coaches will use it against you. If you make several offers, and one is accepted, you're certainly free to pull the other offers at any time.

Article on Jesse Wade's invite to Pangos All-American Camp & Gonzaga commitment: http://www.standard.net/stories/2014/05/06/davis-high-basketball-star-invited-prestigious-national-event

"You go to a camp like this, and you're playing against the best players in the country at every position," Wade said. "It's just going to be super fun. Not just to see where I stack up against them, but to show them where I'm at. I want to show everyone why I'm going to Gonzaga. The pressure is off me to get a college offer, but now it's showing people why I'm going."

Leaning back on the brown leather couch, Wade recalls the moment he first grabbed the threads hanging from his dreams and pulled and was able to bring them closer. It was last fall, when Gonzaga called to offer him a scholarship. He recalls it was the day the Bulldogs officially became ranked the No. 1 team in the country, and they offered what he'd long desired -- a chance to play for a school who wants him for the player he is: Cerebral, fundamental and skilled, if undersized.

"They said to me, 'We don't just want you to do this or this. Just keep playing and doing your thing," Wade said. "It's just nice to know that a school wants me, that they're recruiting me for the player I am."

"I don't want to say 20 years from now, 'Gosh, if only I'd have worked harder, who knows where I'd be now,'" Wade said. "I just want to work as hard as I can right now, and then there's nothing else I can do. Then the pressure is off. I can just go out and play, wherever that takes me."

After watching the players perform in the first 2 days at the camp, the evaluators and media at the camp vote on who they think were the top 30 performers. Those 30 play in the Top 30 game. Then they do the same for the next 30 best performers, and those next 30 get to play in the Top 60 game

Man Jesse has risen his stock way up there with this camp. Wonder how two years of not playing or even being around basketball will go. Honestly dont know. I would guess he'll either be driven enough to keep improving what he can (is allowed to do) or its going to be take some time to get him back to where he is now. Just dont know. The selfish GU basketball side of me hopes he has a plan and can do it while on his mission, but the mission is the plan and focus so I guess we should just be happy knowing we are getting a great kid.

WCC Preview: BYU’s Tyler Haws returns from his mission eager to pick up where he left off

A more mature, more well-rounded Haws returned from the Philippines last April with his mind at ease but his body out of shape. Since he seldom had time to play basketball more than a few times a month during his mission and the competition wasn't exactly Division I caliber, Haws lost 10 pounds of muscle, much of the stamina he'd built up and any semblance of his shooting touch.

In the first few months after he returned to campus, Haws spent long hours lifting weights and conditioning before gradually easing his way back into playing pickup games again and working on his all-around game. Finally back in basketball shape, he hopes to build on the promise he showed before his mission when he started 33 games as a freshman and averaged 11.3 points and 4.2 rebounds.

"It was a pretty weird feeling this summer playing pickup games again for the first time in a couple years," Haws said. "I remember getting the ball and being like, 'OK, what do I do with it? Am I supposed to dribble?' Obviously it was rough at the start trying to find my game again and get back into it, but eventually it came back. I feel really comfortable right now."

Jesse Wade listed as one of the top three shooters Francisco watched

Best shooters

Jesse Wade (http://espn.go.com/college-sports/basketball/recruiting/player/_/id/171431/jesse-wade)
2015, PG, 5-11, 155 pounds
Status: Committed to Gonzaga.

Wade was one of the better pull-up jump shooters in the class. He doesn't possess great quickness or speed, but he changes speeds very well, never turns the ball over and has great shooting touch.

Jesse also made a strong enough impression to be mentioned on NBC Sports from analyst Scott Phillips:

http://collegebasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/06/02/seven-takeaways-from-pangos-all-american-camp/

Seven takeaways from the Pangos All-American Camp

4. San Diego State and Gonzaga closed some decent guards:

Gonzaga landed another tough and high-IQ guard in#Utah native Jesse Wade. A class of 2015 prospect, Wade had some good moments playing alongside Kevin Dorsey and knocked down shots, made plays as a passer and also defended pretty well on the perimeter. At 5-foot-11, Wade is small but he plays hard and is skilled.

These two West Coast powers might not play in the Pac-12 but they are perennially in the top 25 thanks to solid prospects like these. Hemsley and Wade are two guards that start a solid foundation with a class.

Exactly. Reports are that Jesse Wade is a team guy through-and-through and would rather try to do all the things possible to help his team win instead of padding his own individual stats. Most players who come to play at the Pangos AA Camp try to play a one-on-one selfish game, but Jesse managed to help his teammates and also knock down shots for himself without wasting his own shot on a forced attempt. If Jesse was more selfish, he could have probably been voted by the evalulators and media to the Top 30 game, but that's not what Jesse is like

I was a huge Small fan back from around his freshman year, although never thinking he was the be all end all, but still liking him a lot. I didn't think Perkins would be as stand up a guy as he seems to be and was wrong there... with Jesse, I think he is exactly the type of player we love through and through. I always want a little bit of that Pargo attitude to make it fun but in the end would never trade it for guys like Pangos or Wade.

Anyone know what the high school talent level is like for Wade?

Jesse's high school plays in Utah Class 5A, which is also what Lone Peak plays in. Lone Peak is school BYU seems to be taking most of its high caliber recruits from the last couple years. Max Preps ranked Lone Peak (http://www.maxpreps.com/high-schools/lone-peak-knights-(highland,ut)/basketball/home.htm) the #1 team in Utah and #12 nationally in 2013-14. Davis HS (http://www.maxpreps.com/high-schools/davis-darts-(kaysville,ut)/basketball/rankings.htm#state_rankings) was ranked #6 in Utah and #239 nationally.

Evan Daniels: I feel pretty comfortable with what range we placed most of the players in, there was, however, two player I would have liked to have gotten into the top 100 that didn't quite make.

Chad Brown, a UCF commitment, and Jesse Wade, a Gonzaga commit, were the last two players out of the top 100. Brown is a 6-10 post player who is active, athletic and a good shot blocker. Wade, on the other hand, is a heady point guard who can really pass. He's also a talented shooter. We're keeping an eye on those two and it wouldn't be a major surprise to see them end up in our top 100 at some point.

My family and I live about 40 minutes south of the Wades in Salt Lake City but my son and our family know Jesse pretty well. We are LDS and have been BYU fans for life, but we have always greatly respected Gonzaga's program and what Coach Few has established in Spokane. Needless to say, we have become HUGE fans of Gonzaga basketball because of Jesse, along with many others here in Utah. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this thread about Jesse. My son has competed against Jesse for many years, and we have nothing but respect and admiration for who he is. He is a great basketball player, but a MUCH better young man. Even though it will be a little bit of a wait before he is in Spokane, you are going to LOVE him in a Zags uniform. I know he has taken and is taking a lot of flack for not waiting for BYU to offer him. BYU never thought he would go anywhere else and so didn't see the need to hurry. When Coach Few showed a lot of interest, it was a very difficult and easy decision at the same time. Most LDS kids dream of playing for BYU someday, so that's why I say it wasn't easy, but Gonzaga is a special place. He is a great kid from a great family so take good care of him!

Jesse did not have to get much taller, but by constantly working on polishing his game, he made recruiting analysts take notice and bump him up to a 4-star

ESPN has now awarded Jesse Wade a 4-star (grade of 80)... that ranks him as the #16 overall point guard, as well as the top prospect in the state of Utah for 2015: http://espn.go.com/college-sports/basketball/recruiting/player/_/id/171431/jesse-wade

He was previously rated a 3-star with a grade of 70.

New scouting report from ESPN:

http://insider.espn.go.com/college-sports/basketball/recruiting/player/evaluation/_/id/171431/jesse-wade

ESPN Analyst
Updated 07/08/2014

Strengths:
Wade is one of the better scoring point guards in the country. He possesses good size and speed for the position, but the strength of his game is his prolific jump shooting ability. He is always on balance when releasing his shot and his release is impeccable. He can push it in transition (head is always up) and either pull-up for the jump shot or deliver the appropriate pass to the open teammate. He rarely turns the ball over against pressure and he does a great job of changing speeds. He can manage a half court offense and he moves very well without the ball.

Weaknesses:
Wade doesn't have superior speed or quickness and he needs to improve his burst off the dribble to create separation from physical defenders. In addition, he needs to continue to add to his mid-range skills (runners/floaters) and finishing through contact.

Bottom Line:
Wade is one of the better point guards in the country and should be a fine addition to Gonzaga's back court.

Scout updated him to a 4-star & #102 overall in their rankings in June: http://guboards.spokesmanreview.com/showthread.php?47100-Jesse-Wade-commits&p=1020559#post1020559

Rivals upgraded him to #147 overall in their rankings as a 3-star a couple days ago: http://guboards.spokesmanreview.com/showthread.php?47100-Jesse-Wade-commits&p=1023777#post1023777

Wow, even with the recent outstanding reports I never thought he'd be upgraded to a 4 star. A lot hinges on what he does during his mission and I would never hope or think that he would not be focused 100% on his mission... BUT if he continues to work on him self; speed, explosiveness... wow. Either way Pangos part deux is awesome.

at least the timeline between him and perkins will line up pretty well.

I think the mission always helps the kids come back a little more mature, not that they aren't mature when they leave. They don't have a ton of time for personal improvement from what I've read but in the end, once he knocks off the rust, I would expect him to be every bit of what is expected.

Jesse Wade, a 2015 point guard committed to Gonzaga, did a nice job distributing for others and scoring off the bounce. The Zags are getting a productive floor leader who always plays hard.

Utah Prospects' 2015 duo of Gonzaga commit Jesse Wade and BYU commit Zac Seljaas had nice games, displaying their usual array of skill, motor and basketball IQ. Both kids should be overachievers at the next level.

Went to the Long Beach AAU Tourny to Watch the Utah Prospects team

July 12, 2014

I stuck around and watched the 17 year old team. I have to say the most impressive player was the Davis kid going to Gonzaga. Easily the fastest player with the ball that I saw all night. He shot great from the outside and got to the basket. Good defense and they could not trap him. He really stood out amoung all of the guards I saw.

Gonzaga continues to separate itself from rest of wwc. 2015 Jesse Wade

July 18, 2014

2015 Jesse Wade is killing it here in Atlanta at this AAU tourney in front of Mark Few and BYU coach Mark Pope. Almost 30 points in last night's game shooting a sizzling 75 percent from the arc going 6 for 8. With Wade and all the top transfers and such Gonzaga is going to continue to dominate all the teams in the wwc as they have done. But is BYU even going to be in the WWC when Jesse gets back from his mission and starts his sure to be dominate career?

Aren't they the ones that thought they would win the conference every year and have not managed to do it once? I suspect they are personally affronted that their home state/ home church boy has chosen the Jesuit school 500 miles north.

Competing with Perkins and Melson for a starting role will be a challenge, but he still has his senior year of H.S. to get better and gain experience. Not to mention an inch or two of growth is not out of the question for any 17 yr old. When he committed to Gonzaga in 2013, he was 6' tall and 160 lbs. 1 year later he is listed as 6'1" and 175 lbs. He maintains straight A's in classes, he's growing and getting better as a player, and he will produce on the court for Gonzaga. He will probably be all studied up on Fews playbook when he arrives as well.

Suwanee, GA -- Bracket and tournament play are in full effect at the Under Armour Association Finals. These teams are starting to separate themselves from the pack as they get closer to the championship.

Here's who caught our eye on Day 3.

Point guards who are making their point

Jesse Wade (http://espn.go.com/college-sports/basketball/recruiting/player/_/id/171431/jesse-wade)
Wade is a very good scoring point guard who has a great understanding of the position. He can run the offense to perfection and knocks down shots from a variety of areas on the floor. Wade is an excellent decision-maker who knows when to pass up a shot to get a better shot. He is tough and competes with great energy and urgency on both ends of the floor. Wade is headed to Gonzaga where he will be the perfect fit.

Not to hijack, but I read the BYU board regularly & more than not think they will be more competitive with the Zags this year than last. I'm not seein' it at all.

Some do, but you get a lot of kooks on message boards. Our front court will be rebuilding, but our guards will make it a respectable year. I expect BYU to challenge for the 2nd spot in the conference, but I would not be surprised if they finished 4th.

The consus opinion on BYU bball fans I know is that Gonzaga should run away with it this year. I actually look forward to seeing what Pangos develops into his senior year.

There is a chance that BYU will have some great teams capable of making national noise, but they are probably a couple of years away.

On the plus side, there is talk about an outside chance that Corbin Kaufusi may play basketball this year. Corbin is a football player like his brother Bronson. This board was passionate about how Bronson played the game. If Corbin plays, I think this board will be an interesting place during Gonzaga/BYU games.

Anyway, that is really threadjacking, Wade sounds like another great get for Gonzaga.

Until he pile drives Pangos into the bleachers.

Everytime I see the name Kafusi I think of the old basketball movie One On One. The scene where the coach tries to make Robby Benson's character lose his cool by having him play 1-on-1 with a football player.

Crazy that my AAU career is over. I want to thank @utahprospects for helping me over the last few years. I also want to publicly thank my Mom and Dad for all the support over the years. They have put so much time, money and many more things into making sure I had every opportunity. My Dad never missed one tournament. So grateful for my teammates as well. I have loved playing with every one of them and wouldn't trade the people I have played with for anything. Also I can't wait to be a Zag in a few years and extremely grateful for the opportunity to play there. Thanks to everyone else who made AAU such a fun experience.

If it is a two year (24 months) mission, then he will be back in April 2017. Maybe he gets to GU early and scrimmages with players and gets a step up on transitioning/getting back up to speed. At worst, he will be probably be around for the first summer session. He will have more to time to get back into playing condition even if he has to do it by himself for a few months.

Yes, early graduation for his mission is fantastic news! The extra few months to train and get back into basketball shape will be crucial. Now send him where I went on my mission in the Amazon region of Brazil and he will at least get plenty of cardio everyday walking everywhere he goes in brutally hot weather.

I am told that he is beginning the work on his mission papers right now with all of the medical check ups and wisdom teeth pulled. He will turn his papers into his Stake President on the 1st of December, and should have his call back from the First Presidency of the church two weeks later, so he should know where he's going before Christmas. I will try to keep everyone up to date or Exclusively seems like he is in contact with the family too. He just baptized his little sister Kayla yesterday in their chapel. Pictures look like it was a nice experience for all of them. Go Zags!

I absolutely respect the commitment to his faith, I do wonder sometimes why more athletes don't take their mission during their college years but give service in some capacity later on. Doesn't matter - we benefit, we're covered in guards for a while and his body will mature, I just am surprised more LDS kids don't put the mission off until their playing days are over.

SALT LAKE CITY -- Here are five observations from West Coast Elite's Utah camp last weekend:

1. Gonzaga commit Jesse Wade (http://espn.go.com/college-sports/basketball/recruiting/player/_/id/171431/jesse-wade) showed off his prolific jump shooting ability and improved facilitating skills at this event. He has the savvy, basketball IQ and shooting touch to make an instant impact for the Zags.

I hope Jesse gets to play some ball with Derek Raivio before stepping on campus!
Not sure JW has as good a handle, but he and DR seem to have similar playing styles: stroking it from deep, quick and cocky good.

I think JW is faster and an even better defender than Raivio at the same stage in their careers in High School. Wade has the potential to be something special.

CONFERENCE BREAKDOWN: NON-MAJORS (http://scouthoops.scout.com/story/1479297-conference-breakdown-non-majors)

Nov 11 by Rob Harrington

Four star point guard Jesse Wade (http://scouthoops.scout.com/a.z?s=75&p=8&c=1&nid=6997070) will take his talents to Gonzaga (http://gonzaga.scout.com/). The Utah native nearly edged his way into the top 100 and will be a steady playmaker and effective spot-up shooter for Mark Few. He also projects as a four-year performer and will give the Zags the benefit of experience — something that has enabled them to thrive in the past.

Of course, the reality remains that very few schools outside the major conferences ever compete for ranked talent. It’s no accident that SDSU, UNLV, Gonzaga and VCU showed up in this article, because they all frequently do.
