Meech slated to start at cornerback tonight in Baylor's opener vs Wofford.

From a wacotrib article (http://www.wacotrib.com/sports/baylor/football/baylor-s-veterans-securing-corners/article_5ea5eb8a-319b-5da1-9f22-9793a634f17f.html) a couple weeks ago:

After playing guard for the Gonzaga basketball team for three seasons, Goodson decided to give football a shot at Baylor three seasons ago. But his 2011 season ended prematurely when he suffered an ankle injury in the fifth game against Iowa State.

Eager to rebound from that injury, Goodson earned a starting cornerback spot last season. But he fractured his arm in two places in the fourth game — Baylor’s Big 12 opener against West Virginia. Goodson was granted a medical hardship for a sixth season of NCAA eligibility, and has looked impressive in preseason workouts.

“I don’t think of those things as setbacks,” Goodson said. “I just think of it as things that make me stronger. You’ve got to find a positive for it. God has a plan, so all I can do is show up and work. Now I’m feeling better than I ever have. From a knowledge standpoint, I feel I’ve got it all down so I feel confident.”

Bennett likes the way Goodson prepares for practice every day and the talent he brings to his position. With his athleticism and coverage skills, he has a chance to have an outstanding senior year.

“It’s year three for Meech (Goodson) in football and you can see the lights go on,” Bennett said. “Meech isn’t a big talker but he practices hard. He’s a pleasure to have been around and so have Joe and K.J.”

Turns out Meech missed the opener, but is supposed to be on the field this Saturday.
After breaking his arm in two places in the Big 12 debut a year ago, cornerback Demetri Goodson is still on the comeback trail. Briles said he thinks Goodseon has a ‘good chance of coming back this week.’
Nice words from the head coach...

‘We need him back, we want him back,’ Briles said. ‘He’s got a bone bruise in his forearm. He’s extremely talented and he lets us do some things defensively from a lock down position as a corner. He’s a dynamic football player.’link (http://collegesportsblog.dallasnews.com/2013/09/quick-hits-art-briles-says-buffalos-khalil-mack-compares-to-ex-aggie-von-miller.html/)

It was really fun to finally see him play--but the defense wasn't on the field much--Baylor 73--WV 42.

Definitely rooting for Meech to enjoy great success as a football player.. a lock-down cornerback is a hot commodity in today's NFL where the QB's are too good not to blitz them as often as you can.

Hey Meech, keep in mind this year's Final Four is just up the road from you a piece at Cowboy Stadium in Arlington. If the Zags make a run, we would love to see you there in person cheering 'em on :)

Doesn't sound that impressive until you consider the fact that Iowa St didn't have the ball much.

On ESPNU right now. Meech has two tackles. Announcer had really good things to say "Goodson is probably Baylor's best guy in coverage" Meech took off his helmet on the sideline and he looks really happy! Loved to see that smile again!

Meech had 2 solo tackles and 1 assist, plus 1 break-up.

I watched the game and the first teams--offense and defense--were out for much of the second half, so I think this result is better than it looks. And, of course, the defense was not on the field much either.

He looked very good to me.

Just looked up Meech's stats from the Baylor Oklahoma game and found this entry at about eight and a half left of the fourth quarter in the play by play:

"2nd and 10 at OKLA 37Blake Bell (http://espn.go.com/college-football/player/_/id/501882/blake-bell) pass intercepted by Demetri Goodson at the Bayl 19, returned for 42 yards to the Okla 39."

Baylor is 8-0. They are really happy about a defense in the 41-12 win.

No mention of Goodson but this is still a good article about the defensive effort (insider access required):

Meech had the INT and at least 2 or 3 pass breakups. The announcers gave him kudos on his solid coverage and the Gonzaga mention was made. He also had a bonehead late hit charged against him and he's lucky he wasn't ejected IMO. The game was full of penalties on both side. At least 25 penalties were called.

Meech's stats: 2 tackles, 3 break-ups and the interceptions. The announcers were giving him props all through the game.

Meech had 3 solo tackles and 1 break up in the game--and a couple of bonehead plays. We watched parts of it, then went down and sat at a table with a couple of Baylor fans. The wife, expecially, was devastated by the "butt kicking" Baylor got.

She felt a little better after the Bears won their Basketball game.

The Bears will be on ESPN2 against TCU today at 2:30 PM.

Texas 49 Baylor 17
This game hasn't happened yet, it should read Ok St 49 Baylor 17. I hope meech has his degree because the chance of him playing on Sunday is slim. The Battle for Mac Brown's Job is next up for Baylor, where I fully expect Baptist superiority to reign supreme. Actually, Mac has probably already lost his job, it just remains to be seen how they orchestrate his exit.

I assume you're being sarcastic. The fact is that in these parts, most everybody figures Brown is through. His body of work for the last couple 3 years just doesn't cut it with demanding Texas boosters. I'll be surprised if he survives and the battle won't be pretty if he does.
