I didn't even know he'd be playing with the U20 team until a few minutes ago. Translated story (http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=pl&u=http://www.sportowefakty.pl/koszykowka/367220/bauermann-odwiedzi-kadre-u20-w-legionowie&prev=/search%3Fq%3D%2522Przemek%2BKarnowski%2522%2BOR%2B %2522Przemyslaw%2BKarnowski%2522%2B-iconsportsmedia%26start%3D10%26lr%3D%26client%3Dfi refox-a%26sa%3DN%26hl%3Den%26rlz%3D1R1GGLL_en___US409%26 biw%3D1366%26bih%3D591%26tbs%3Dqdr:d)shows Karnowski on the 12-man roster.
From Saturday to Tuesday train in Legionów. July 3rd we play three friendlies with the Belgians in their area - says Mariusz Niedbalski, coach of the U20.
Eventually, they'll play in the FIBA U20 European Championships (http://u20men.fibaeurope.com/enDivB/cid_GtpNa-qCJkM1Osy8c8nb01.teamID_347.compID_UIfgjyQcGqk-fPlnl66Tj0.season_2013.roundID_9351.html) Division B, from July 12-21. FIBA story (http://u20men.fibaeurope.com/enDivB/cid_GtpNa-qCJkM1Osy8c8nb01.teamID_347.compID_UIfgjyQcGqk-fPlnl66Tj0.season_2013.roundID_9351.coid_ejdSiZQ8G 2gRaBY15qv3B1.articleMode_on.html):

Poland made a clear, if indirect, declaration of intentions on Thursday with the announcement of their preliminary roster for the U20 European Championship Men Division B, in July.

Despite their basketball tradition, the central European nation have never competed in the top flight of this age category but with the core of last year's U20 team returning this summer, Poland can only be considered as early favourites to reach the final in the tournament that will be hosted in Romania.

The fact that head coach Mariusz Niedbalski has included in his 26-man strong preliminary team the most promising young players in the country serves as the best proof that Poland aim to finally earn promotion this summer.

The roster is headlined by winger Mateusz Ponitka, center Przemyslaw Karnowski, shooting guard Michal Michalak, forward Tomasz Gielo and point guard Grzegorz Grochowski.

All five talented players were on the U20 team last year, as 19-year-olds at the time, when Poland finished in fifth place and just missed out on a top-four finish that would have seen them gain Division A status for the first time.

Good luck, Przemyslaw

My first thought: "Great, the risk of an injury to our front court." But then my second thought was: "What an honor and congratulations". I'm working on my optimism!

Maybe we can get some games live of his team!

Thanks ZN. I hadn't seen a post on that. That system makes good sense and it sounds kinda like some of the soccer leagues that I have heard of.

There are quite a few division A teams - a lot actually and it does seem to me that some of the eastern European teams would be likely up and comers compared to some of the A teams, though I guess the system is designed exactly for that.

(Beware: Google doesn't do a very good job with the Polish to English translation.)

You mentioned, however, that it was harder than you thought.

- Comparison of the NCAA to the Polish league in which I performed. In the U.S., the game is much faster, more athletic, there is more one-on-one. There is virtually no time to catch your breath, a light trot, you have all the time to run, be active. I had to get used to it, which was actually quite a challenge. Everyone wants to show noticed.
Have you ever had doubts about the choice of university, the band?

- Do not. I came across a very good coach - working with us one main and three assistants. One of them contacted me in 2010, and since that time we remained in touch. I knew Gonzadze depends on my person, and that meant something. Proposal of course I got more, but from the beginning I was set to the college. When I flew to the U.S. to meet her, I immediately fell in love with me, and besides I knew well from one of the players, Canadian Kevin Pangosem.
Gonzaga University is a Catholic university. This was the Lord's meaning?

- Of course. I am a Catholic and I am glad that I can learn in a place that promotes the values dear to me. University founded by the Jesuits, dozens of priests living on its territory. One of them drives us to match, it helps us, we can always talk to him, to come to any problem. After each workout together we pray. Nobody is surprised, there is no sensation. It's just something natural, of course. The university is also the church.
NCAA is a bus stop in front of the NBA. How close or how far away you are from the best league in the world?

- It's hard to say. The first year was a period of adjustment, I think I played very seldom that anyone could see me. You have to spend on the floor for 20-30 minutes, showing great basketball to fall into the eye. Of course, like everyone, I dream of the NBA, it became my goal. Before me, perhaps the most important two years. Already next season could be a breakthrough, I'm counting on it anyway and that's the focus. I am hopeful, but now just dreaming about going to the European Championships with the national team and surprise that we can make in Slovenia.

Reborn, it's difficult to compare. 2 years ago Kelly was expected to be an end of the bench guy for Canada's National Team ... Yet he saw action and did very well. He even scored 19 vs Argentina (with multiple NBA guys). Karno is playing on the U20 team. Regardless I believe this is great for Shem.

I keep telling you that PK can play D and rebound. Was probably better than KO at both of them. His offense is not close to Kelly's though. The good news for Gonzaga is that that is exactly what the team needs most from him. The backcourt will make up the difference in offensive fire power. One thing I liked about the interviews that I've seen with PK is that he's planning on being at GU for two more years. Zags will be pretty awesome in two years if that remains to be true.

his post defense and his weakside rotation defense is what the team will need most of all this year, along with solid rebounding......look for us to be able to get out to the 3 point line to defend giving up dribble drive forcing to the Karno power......defensive adjustment will be different than what we have seen since Kuso days...

if he occaisionaly gets double figures in points it will be a BONUS but not needed to win consistently this year with our composite makeup of the team

I'm not an expert or anything, but from what I can gather, I would say the overall talent level is more like Division 2 or 3. There's some pretty good talent at the top (Emmanuel Lecomte, who committed to Miami, might be having the best overall tournament), but as far as I can tell there's not really much notable talent. Definitely not many guys who can match Karnowski's size, let alone his skill set (although he did dominate a 7'3 center who had declared for the draft this year). I still find the numbers he's putting up very encouraging though.

Having a free throw % above 70 is huge for any big man. If Shem can knock down the FT's consistently, not only will he be playing in the final minutes of a close game, but he will add on 3-4 more points per game to his average.

If Karnowski was even above 65% last year, he may have gotten more PT.

U-20 Division B: Poland to promotion to the elite!
Published: Saturday, July 20, 2013

57:46 Poland beat Belgium in the semi-final match in the men's basketball ME-20 Division B. Won This means that the Poles for the year will play in Division A, as promoted there three best teams Romanian tournament.

The entire 11-point lead our team has earned in the first quarter, which ended with the result 27:16 for white and red. However, a complete knockout Belgian team came a moment later, in the second quarter. Poles have strengthened the defenses and have made to your advantage the next few meshes. Half time was 40:20. In the second half the roles were reversed a little bit, but fortunately not on the same scale. Belgians systematically worked out the losses, but they did it too slow and our advantage until the end of the meeting was not threatened. Finally, Poland beat Belgium 57:46 and tomorrow will play in the finals of the event.

Most points for our team (16) won the Thomas Gielo. But it was a real Przemyslaw Karnowski mainstay of Poles, earning 13 points and having 16 rebounds.
Congrats to Shem for helping Poland to win its first-ever berth in Division A!

I love that he was on the floor for almost 37 minutes today! It really says a lot about his conditioning that he only spent 3 minutes on the bench.

Huge difference btw D2 and 3. D3 is non scholarship. Seattle Pacific beat Arizona, think it was last year, almost beat UW a couple times, as did W Washington. Good D2 teams are close to leagues like the Big Sky; if PK is going against that level comp (guys like Poling, for ex.) he's doing pretty well.

Congrats, Shem!

Great effort, great tournament - since he got through it completely injury free, I would call that more valuable than playing here (though debatable). Like his rebounding stats, though no doubt there weren't a lot of athletic bigs to compete against.

Ouch for the one for five free throws - hopefully those will keep improving, great form, not like he just heaves them up like Shaq used to.

Anyway, leading his team to a championship and league promotion seems like a pretty productive summer, well done and get after the grown guys, take it to them and then come back with lots of stories and ready to go, no question he'll be in game shape.

I did not see Big K's final numbers posted-- so here they are.

Przemyslaw Karnowski (Poland) Nationality: POL
Born : 08.11.1993
Place of birth: Bydgoszcz (POL)
Height: 2.12m
Position: C

STATISTICS
15.9 Points per game (very nice!)
11.9 Rebounds per game (even nicer!!)
1.0 Assists per game

Averaged 27 mins per game (that will help with the stamina)

Still needs to work on the FTs (46.9%) --if he shoots 70% from the line he adds another point to his average for the tournament

Roscoe Allen from Hungary? By Hungary do they mean Detroit? That's the most unique Hungarian name ever. I have a co-worker from Hungary and I can't wait to tell him there's a Hungarian basketball player named Roscoe Allen. :lmao:
