"The Syracuse men's basketball team will play four exhibition games against Canadian universities this summer.

"The Orange trip begins in Montreal with games against Bishop University and McGill University on Aug. 21-22 on the McGill campus. The team travels to Ottawa for games against Carleton University and Ottawa University on Aug. 23-24. Those games will be at Scotiabank Place, home of the Ottawa Senators."

This article brings to mind again the balancing act a school faces regarding PR and recruiting stimulus vs. cost and interrupted pre-season training and conditioning. What do you think -- ought GU consider a tour of Canada (or Eastern Europe) next summer?

I've wondered for years why the Zags haven't done this, particularly after a big graduation hit. Treat it like the "home" games sometimes set up near a U.S. players home. A trip thru Germany/France (& now Poland) would fit the bill.

Um, besides being located a jump shot away from Canada, I think Cuse was mining the country looooong before the Zags.

Just think how UW feels every time Gonzaga travels over to the Battle in Seattle!

That was kinda the impression that I got. They get to play 4 games as a team in the off season without needing a plane ticket, just a one bathroom stop bus trip from Syracuse around the neighborhood.

I do think that we need to do one of these over in Europe, or wherever - just get the experience of playing together.

Didn't Gonzaga just dance around Vancouver in 2011? Against Hawaii?

Aren't most recent Canadian recruits from Westerna Canada? Sacre (BC), KO (BC), Arop (AB), Bol Kong (BC).

BC/AB are the Zags backyard....

"Most" but certainly not all. Kevin and Theo come to mind.

Manny Arop played his HS ball in Hamilton, Ontario, though he he spent much of his youth in Edmonton.
