    Marco Gonzales Recognized With All-American Accolades


    SPOKANE, Wash.The accolades continue to pile up for Gonzaga University baseball junior Marco Gonzales who was tabbed an All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, Baseball America and Perfect Game the organizations announced Thursday.

    Gonzales was recognized as a second-team recipient by all three publications.

    The Fort Collins, Colo., native is coming off a stellar season with the Bulldogs that saw him selected 19th overall in Major League Baseball's First-Year Player Draft to the St. Louis Cardinals. Gonzales, a two-way player, finished the season with a 7-3 record and a 2.80 ERA in 106 innings. At the plate the Co-West Coast Conference Player of the Year led the Zags with a .313 batting average, two home runs and 26 RBI.

    Gonzales has been recognized by each organization each of his three years with the program. The NCBWA named him an All-American second-team a season ago and a Freshman All-American in 2011. Baseball America honored him with first-team status last year and as a Freshman All-American two years ago. Perfect game named him an All-American second-team as a sophomore.

    This year marks the 18th annual All-American teams from the NCBWA.

    The southpaw is still up for the College Baseball Hall of Fame's John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award. He remains one of 12 in contention for the award.
