Gonzales Named To The John Olerud Two-Way Award Watch List

SPOKANE, Wash.A finalist in 2012, Gonzaga University baseball junior Marco Gonzales was named to the watch list for the 2013 John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award, announced the College Baseball Hall of Fame.

The Fort Collins, Colo., native has picked up right where he left off last season and has posted a 6-2 record with a 2.77 ERA in 11 starts. In 78 innings, the lefty has struck out 66 batters and walked 16. At the plate Gonzales leads the team in batting average with a .338 mark in 37 games. He has driven in 22 runs and has an on base percentage of .396.

The Olerud Award, presented on June 29 in Lubbock, Texas, as part of the College Baseball Hall of Fame's annual Night of Champions, recognizes baseball players who excel both on the mound and in the field. 25 players from universities across the nation were named on the watch list.

Gonzales advanced to the final three for the award last year before Brian Johnson from the University of Florida won.

No school features more than one dual-threat representative, but the ACC, Big 10, Big 12, Big South and Great West conferences each feature two players on the list. Gonzales is the lone representative from the West Coast Conference.
