"VCU also is one of just eight schools to have won an NCAA tournament game each of the past four years, joining Kansas, North Carolina, Ohio State, Florida, Syracuse, Marquette and Gonzaga."--from story online regarding Smart staying at VCU by Hank Kertz

BTW---BYU rolls into NIT final four----WCC is weak

Are you talking about this year? Because last I checked they played 2 games not 1.

Last "one and done" for Gonzaga was in '08 when they ran into Steph Curry. Other than that, great point.

Do you not see the list of teams on that list???? Do you not notice the consecutive NCAA tourney streak???? I was pissed we didnt go deeper this year too, but gain some perspective please---you must not have been a fan before the Elite Eight days----I find that few remember (or were born) 20 years ago---how Martin Centre had plenty of room up top, how an NIT berth was big Shyt, how cool it was that GU was going to be on cable TV----with that said....I want more, you want more, the coaches and players want more---but you seem to resemble those in Bel Air

Honestly, it doesn't sound all that impressive.

But it's better than a poke in the eye.

Sometimes the good often gets in the way of the best. Keep on accepting that Gonzaga is a very good team, and that what they have done is enough for you. Deny that there is a flaw somewhere, and we will keep on getting what we've gotten, and for so many that is enough. I applaud you. However, for others it just isn't enough. We continue to dream and believe in reaching a higher plane, and hope and pray that Gonzaga discovers a solution to the problem that has faced this team in the NCAA tournament.

When did being happy with where the GU program is mean that I (plus others) are content?? As few said, appreciate where we are and what we have. That doesnt mean that you must stop pushing for even higher levels! Once again, you (like so many others) seem to have a limited perspective. We do not have the resources of a great number of schools yet we are relevant nationally and they are not. With a few bad seasons, 50% of our fans are gone...with a few more losing seasons you would be able to walk up to any home game an buy a ticket. Thats how it was not that long ago. Being a winning program for the last 15 years in a row is insane!! Especially with what we are......why do you think its mentioned so much by others nationally...and by so many respected people in the business

Any school outside of Duke or the top 5 factory schools would be elated to have Gonzaga's record. It'll be a tough nut next year. We always have tough nuts to crack.

Toughen up critics. You're whining is getting boring....moreso for the newcomers who reap the benefit of years of struggle and hard work....only to now expect sucess in every year in every way.
We have agreat University and a great Basketball program. No whining or you go to the corner and hold your hands up for 20 minutes! And if that doesn't work Bob Zag will get his switch out;)

Those were fun days. We didn't expect the kids to contend for national championships. We were just excited when the dude who sat behind you in Dr. Garvin's class hit enough three-pointers to earn everybody a free burger at Wendy's.

My first year at GU was the Elite 8 run. With all due respect, however, that doesn't make me any less of a fan. Sure you've seen worse days but so what? The Zags I learned to love were defined by winning. Will I cheer when they suck again? You bet. I sure hope the administration and coaches don't share you nostalgic content for underachieving...

Why is it, MDABE that anyone who thinks critically is a whiner? What level of mature thining is calling others names just because they have the fortitude to think critically? It was at the wonderful university named Gonzaga that I learned how to think critically. So many you should call GU Whiner U. Maybe you need to take a good look in the mirror Abe. You seem to be doing a lot of whining about the criticle thinkers. I don't see them calling you and others like you names. They seem to accept you for your right to express your opinion that everying is "just fine."

No 5* talent and we still made it to the #1 ranking and #1 seed. I am good with what Few is doing with the talent he is getting (now if we just could get a couple more better players to complement the existing players--imagine the upside).

You have to play the hand you are dealt.

Hmmm, I hope so. But I wonder for how many that is really true.

Because the Zags I learned to love were NOT defined by winning, I am a bit skeptical toward those whose Zags they learned to love WERE defined by winning.

I think Duke, Butler, almost all the Big 10, and all of the Pac12, MVC, and MWC would disagree...

Would I trade back to back final fours or a NC for going one year one and done, probably? But what we've been able to accomplish is still impressive and something 320+ schools have not done.

I can have it both ways...

I've mentioned the following in several posts over the last four or five years and it goes something like this: Few and Co. have had a hard time changing its recruiting philosophy and targets. We sitll find diamonds in the rough and go overseas, as good as anyone, but we also now target high profile kids that also have the attention of power conference schools.

I contend that our recruiting efforts towards these U.S. kids have been less than successful for a couple reasons: 1) typically they use our name as a stepping stone and we waste value time and resources (not all is lost due to establishing relationships and finding other kids) and 2) Few wants to recruit high caliber kids with the blue collar ethic, do or die mentality that a) any coach would want and b) are few and far between. He's had a hard time landing the right fits (Meech, GJ) and often loses out on other targets. And frankly, IMO, there's a balance between finding more athletic players and players that want to play in the system for the benefit of the team that he (and likely a lot of coaches) has not figured out.

We still do more with less than any team in the country and I do like our trending path, but finding the right mix of recruits will only help to continue our success.
