I looked and looked for the WSU-UW game last night and couldn't find it. Had to watch the BSU-SDSt instead.

USF playing a game after the WCC tourney that's not a post season tourney? The Dons website calls it their final season game. Seems strange.

I am guessing we should root for the Pokes vs Baylor? RPIologists have any answers? The only thing I can weigh against it would be Baylor being on the bubble so a Baylor win could potentially put GU in a category of beating more NCAA tourney teams.

The one I will really have my eye on is the Illini. Some have them as a possibility of not getting in so it is imperative they pull one off today.

Too bad the ZAGS can't do the same thing. It's a long time between WCC championship and the first NCAA tourney game.

Illinois shoots 32% from field, 24% from three, is outrebounded by 12 and wins. Only 5 TO's compared to 17 for Minnesota likely won the game for Illinois.

GU's ability to limit TO's this season will hopefully continue during March Madness and will make the Zags an extremely tough out.

i believe the team we want to win is whichever has the best chance of winning the next tournament game... or even more importantly, whichever has the best chance of eventually knocking off kansas.

go pokes!

edit: also, ok st is barely hanging in as a top-25 rpi win, while baylor (currently 63) isn't likely to either climb into the top-50 or fall out of the top-75 at this point. our actual rpi will be essentially unaffected regardless of who wins, assuming that the winner eventually wins the same number of tourney games either way.

at the end of the Richmond game?

Looking at the play by play I see a player T, 2 bench T's & a whole bunch of free throws.

The Richmond Spiders led by three with 5.9 seconds left when they purposely fouled Pierria Henry, forcing him to making his foul shots instead of potentially sending the game into overtime with a 3-pointer.

But what happened next changed the entire complexion of the game.

After Henry made the front-end of a 1-and-1, Richmond’s Derrick Williams shoved Charlotte’s Willie Clayton to the ground while attempting to box out. The referees issued Williams a technical foul and Henry would be given two additional shots and the ball on top of the one he still had left to take. Henry made all three to put the 49ers up by one. On the ensuing possession, Henry was once against fouled by Richmond but not before he attempted to get a shot off. Richmond coach Chris Mooney was irate and was issued a technical foul for his efforts. He then tore off his jacket and was given his second technical foul and was ejected from the game.

Video available at the link as well.

at the end of the Richmond game?

Looking at the play by play I see a player T, 2 bench T's & a whole bunch of free throws.

Per ESPN (http://espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=330730257):

Pierria Henry hit eight free throws in the final five seconds of a wild start to the Atlantic 10 tournament, and Charlotte stunned Richmond 68-63 on Thursday.

The Spiders, who led by 63-60 with 4.7 seconds to go, were called for three technical fouls as the 49ers took the lead from the foul line with the clock stopped.

It all started when Richmond chose to foul Charlotte to prevent the 49ers from attempting a tying 3-pointer. After Henry made the front end of a one-and-one, the Spiders' Derrick Williams and Charlotte's Willie Clayton got tangled up setting up for a potential rebound.

Williams shoved Clayton to the floor, and the New Yorker playing at home was called for a technical. Instead of needing to intentionally miss the second free throw to hope for a tip to tie the game, the 49ers found themselves with three more free throws -- plus possession -- to try to take the lead.

Henry made the second end of the one-and-one, then both his attempts for the technical bounced around the rim and in to give Charlotte a 64-63 lead.

Richmond had to foul, and when Henry forced up a 3-pointer as he was being grabbed, the referees awarded him three free throws. Spiders coach Chris Mooney was then called for two technicals and ejected.

Mooney paced outside the locker room for several minutes after being led off the court, muttering, "How can they decide the game ..."

You are about 10 times more likely to lose in regulation when fouling when up by three late. Weird stuff happens (usually an extra possession, not 8 free throw attempts).

After reading Ken Pomeroy's numbers on this I'm not sure what I would do if I was the coach. http://kenpom.com/blog/index.php/weblog/entry/yet_another_study_about_fouling_when_up_3

No upsets, mild or otherwise in the big tournaments. Kind of surprising, given the past history of these tournaments. Sun Devils had ASU on the ropes but coughed it up. You might say they "Zagged it" against the Bruins, up by 15 with 16 minutes to go in the second half.

I am wondering if Romar's guys might just get hot and pull off big upsets in Vegas. We need some upsets! Not saying I'm hoping for the Purple boys to beat the Dux. But sooner or later there has to be an upset, doesn't there?

Did anyone watch the game? I think Bill Walton was drunk. He even made a comment to his partner saying your wife keeps calling me.

I was watching both nights and commented to my wife that I was pretty sure he was drunk. If not he is one strange dude.

Agree. But not mutually exclusive, could well be both.

I found myself wondering the same, but was leaning towards stoned .....

Thanks Ranger, I don't know why my search didn't pull it up. I've got to agree with Digger and the voices on the video, this was a travesty of officiating.

If you're the official though...how do you not call a foul under the basket after that free throw? That push was a foul no matter the situation!

Pretend for a moment that KO was the guy on the ground and Kafusi was the kid who did the pushing. You'd want a foul, every time.

Have always liked Walton, but hadn't heard him for awhile until catching a few Pac games this year.

Very disappointing. I believe the years have caught up with him (& I'm the same age)!

It was very awkward and I feel sorry for his partner trying to announce a game. He definitely was on something but I was thinking he was drinking because he had slurred speech at times.

This interview of Bill on the Dan Dakich show rose some eyebrows. Take a listen. Walton must have been on a new drug. Dakich gets about 5 words in over 40 minutes.

All this being said, I like Walton.
