Just placed big bet on BYU at Mandalay. Can they cover 11 pt spread?

It is more or less a home game for BYU...at least crowd wise... it is entirely up to Carlino...my impression is that they are a poor second half team as Davies usually has foul trouble....

I'm hoping that Coach Grier can save his job with a big win......that might do it...so I will be doing the same.....but even if I had no interest, by half time the BYU fans would have pi$$ed me off enought to root against BYU anyway...

It would be nice to have him back in 509 though, wouldn't it?

The old saying "you can never go back" would apply here, I think. Few isn't going to create an opening and it is awkward for Billy to be an assistant in the same conference he coached in. I am positive Few and Billy are like brothers still but it seems like it wouldn't be right - right now anyway.

I hope he keeps his job. And if he doesn't - I hope that he is offered a respected assistant job at a basketball powerhouse.

not/didnt watch the game but USD's a wild card, would actually not have bet to cover the spread on that game.

Despite strong players, byu struggled way more than expected this year

Poetic justice for the team that employs Bronson Kaufusi. Although it appears he didn't play tonight.

BYU ... a 2 seed in the NIT? 3 seed?

Meat played some tonight. I think he had 2 tackles and a fumble recovery.

You're right. He wasn't in the original ESPN.com box score, but he's there now.

The ESPN crew was pretty openly giving a lot of reasons why Grier deserves another year at USD. If USD can somehow get past SMC I would think that would do it.

Woke up this morning to the most wonderful news!
Great win for the USD!
Whats this about Bill Grier losing his job?
In mho it would be a mistake for USD not to keep him.
Rome was'nt built in a day and neither are winning basketball programs.
Big win for them...for their program!
And better yet...BYU lost!

I hope the people on this board that thought BYU was a threat...the second best team...will win...has the best guards....ect...will finally accept the fact that they were average...and headed to the NIT or maybe not even there.

I doubt Lone Pine will make them a threat next year.

The End...

USD played great last night. Give THEM some credit. BYU played very good imo. It was a real good game. Congrats to Billy Grier and his team. The trouble with USD is that they have not been consistently good. I do not expect them to beat St. Mary's tonight.

There have been a couple articles in the SD UT recently about Grier and the possibility of losing his job. I have to think last night's win helps him, a win tonight against SMC might assure his ongoing employment.

The loss for BYU is Karma, for playing Kafooy. The basketball gods looked down and said, "Behold, ye, for ye played a goon with no basketball skillz! Ye are not playing a game with sticks on ice! NAY! Ye embarrassed the game with this abomination and for that, we serve ye with a loss! BEHOLD!!!"

You fell victim to one of the classic blunders! The most famous is never to get involved in a land war in Asia. And only slightly less well known is this: never go in against a Sicilian when (WCC) death is on the line!."

Apparently, the WCC wasn't the 'walk-over' BYU thought it would be when it entered the League. Seeing San Diego put it to them last night was wonderful.

Even the Thug football player couldn't hurt any opponent players enough to give BYU the game. Rose crossed the line from good hard nosed Division 1 body-on-body in the paint to 'go out there and used the skills you learned as a Defensive End on the Football team to hurt KO and/or Harris.

Perhaps BYU has learned a lesson from the WCC --- drop the arrogance that BYU will be the class of the WCC. Now, drop the Thug from the squad.

I tuned in just before Kaufusy smacked that USD guy to the floor. I thought, oh no here we go again. I also thought the refs should have said something to him about it. Farnham and Fleming said it was just a hard foul, but it was close IMO. If I was the ref I would have told Kaufusy "don't go there".

Please, get over it. The refs called a loose game and, as a result, you get loose play. Anyways, BYU is good for the WCC and adds another good game for the Zags among a litany of snoozers (eg Portland, pepperdine, LMU)

Except when BYU loses early and allows USD and LMU playing the Zags and Gaels.

Our top 2 teams took big hits to their RPI and neither team needed that heading into Selection Sunday.

they remind me of a damned good street ball team. Or group of under skilled but very tough handball players.

What this meant when I played is someone was going to get hurt. And it is NEVER the better player. It's always the guy trying to play the game while the other guy is trying to disrupt him, get in his way, and basically, get tangled up with him. This intimidation doesn't work with us. And it wouldn't work with us, but causing an injury might work. Like a scene right out of Slap shot. The Hanson brothers. http://earlsmoviepicks.blogspot.com/2011/01/slap-shot-1977.html

An undercut, a finger in an eye, the picket fence becoming a brick wall, on and on.

Not that LMU won't try this, but they don't have designated linebackers in there with that specific task being their plan A and plan B, as far as I can tell. They have basketball players.

Whaddaya mean get over it. There is no place in basketball for a goon like that. He is taking it to another level. BB has already turned into a contact sport no need for football style moves IMO. If he played the game like a skilled player I wouldn't mind but all he adds is a physical threat to other player's health.

You posted something similar in another thread. Do you like his style of play?
