Awesome? Yes!!!
Unbelievable? Yeah!!!

I'd like to be the first to lead ZagNation in that cheer that is now heard around the world.

WE'RE #1
WE'RE #1
WE'RE #1

Say it pride. Say it with love and appreciation in your hearts. Feel the joy in your soul. Let the tears flow down your cheeks...tears of joy and love.

We have waited and fought for this for years. The Zags finally made it to the top of the hill, standing alone, yes, but standing with Zag Nation beneath their feet.

Go Zags!!! The Best is yet to come!!!

When the opportunity to go to #1 fell in our lap starting about two weeks ago, I was ambivalent. Would backing into #1 because other teams lost while we held serve in conference make us over-confident, complacent, less hungry? Then MF came out and said that it would be a "neat" thing (or something close to that) and was looking forward to checking the box on another achievement. So, trusting MF that it is a good thing for the program and the team, I'm good with it. Besides it is fitting that this team, which most of us consider to be protypical Zags (blue-collar, team-oriented, underappreciated, good at both ends of the court), be the one to represent the program's first #1.

The other reason that I'm good with it is that the choice will be criticized by many from the B10, ACC, and other precincts east of the Mississippi. I think that will make the team only want to play harder to prove the critics wrong, which, after all, is quintessential Zaggy-ness.

Congrats, Zag fans!!!

I was a little worried the elitist voters would snub Gonzaga. Very happy today.

I just hope UNLV ands in a different region so I don't have to pick a team. :p

20 years from a Basketball program very few outside of Spokane knew about to a National Powerhouse.

Kentucky was picked to be No 1, 2 or 3 at the beginning of the season and didn't wind up in the Top 25. None of the sportswriters apologize for picking Kentucky. But, if Gonzaga was picked there and fell out of contention, every sportswriter would be saying: "well, I should have known that a mid-major like Gonzaga couldn't hold up for the season.

No more apologizing for Gonzaga --- we are Number 1!!!!

Congratulations Gonzaga!!!

Way back when I was an underclassmen at GU, our Men's team finished the season 8 wins, 20 losses. Few was an underpaid grad assistant coach and Fitzy was rebuilding. The next couple of seasons, GU started to make some noise in the conference, but I struggled to find info about away games. Sometimes going into the Ad building and finding a room with a TV and watching the score ticker late at night to get a glimpse of a score.

Home games, I would saunter into from my on campus apartment to watch a game 5 minutes (or less) before tip off and sit anywhere I wanted.

My how times have changed.

Congrats!

In all of our pre- and early season posting on this message board I don't think I recall anyone predicting what a truly special year this would be. We certainly had a sense that this was going to be a great team.....but 29-2 at the end of regular season play, a 16-0 sweep of the conference, all the great moments this team gave us to remember, and topping it all off with a ranking of #1 in the country....holy ZAG this has been fun!!

So....a HUGE thanks to the coaches and these great young men for giving us, the fans, so many thrills this year....with more to come.....I'm sure of it!

No question about it. I also think it helps with brand recognition of one's degree out in the market.

Fun tweets from Gary Parrish:

Gary Parrish ‏@GaryParrishCBS

Can I tell a funny and perfect story about Gonzaga's Mark Few? I think it highlights why he's so different from most high-major coaches.
Gary Parrish ‏@GaryParrishCBS

So I texted Few last night to see how he was handling being No. 1 in the Top 25 (and one). He responded quickly and said he was stressed.
Gary Parrish ‏@GaryParrishCBS

Why? Because his wife had left for the weekend and he was on Daddy Duty. "I have picked up around this house 10 times," he said. "Help!"
Gary Parrish ‏@GaryParrishCBS

As I've said before, I don't know any coach who balances real life and coaching better than Mark Few. He's shown you can have it both ways.and I liked this one too:
Eric Reveno ‏@CoachReveno

@GaryParrishCBS Congratulated him Sat after game and he got excited about telling me he was going fishing Mon. "River's too crowded Sunday."

Best board to go along with best team, fans, Kennel Club & program.

It is seldom this board isn't ahead of the msm (mainstream media) on just about every breaking story about basketball in general and Gonzaga in particular.

This kind of reporting and enthusiasm for the Zags is what makes this site almost as invaluable to follow as the Zags.

Thanks for all the writing, art work, humor and discussions, Since the team is number one in the nation, it's only fair to assume the GUB and all the rest of the Zag Nation is number one as well.

As coach Few has said many times this week: It is important to stop and try to appreciate the moment as it is right now. To remember what a great run this team has already had. To realize we ran the table on our conference. we've had so many great moments. In our case as well as theirs, there is plenty of time to start prepping for the tourney and the dance.

ENJOY !! This moment ! It has never been like this in 125 years of Gonzaga's storied life.

Our buddy Dunleavy at the Washington Examiner has GU 4 on his ballot. The lowest vote. Even Seth now is a GU backer. Percy Allen can be excused for his #3 vote as he'd never get another interview with Chicken if he voted GU #1 overall.

Congratulations to the Zags, the first CBB team from the State of Washington to ever reach #1 in the AP poll!!!

and yet Washington newspapers still are putting more focus on UW and Wazzu this year.

Time and again, whenever UW or Wazzu have a game, there are huge articles in my local newspaper about "Washington Gameday" and "Washington State Gameday" with stats on their starters and key bench players, but no such article about "Gonzaga Gameday" EVER. Gonzaga is still treated like an alien in its own state.

Poor journalism and poor state pride.

Romar and UW fans, are you still butthurt that we school you just about every time we play you?
