When full time outs occur most teams gather out on the court in a make shift campsite. It seems like this has been going on forever but in my day we huddled around our bench. When did this go into effect actually as I've often wondered about the shoes, chairs, sweat, etc and its effect on footing as I've seen players occasionally, though rarely, go down in those areas probably more by chance. Is this done for privacy, escape noise or what is the reasoning here? It's the rare team that doesn't do this it seems.

The kids come out on the court and mop up after timeouts. It is done for privacy and just to have some room. With those tiny fold up chairs it's easy.

And you'll notice the kids sitting down are the ones who will be out on the court after the timeout.
