Max & Zach at SSF are reporting Elgin Cook will be visiting GU this week. He's the son of Alvin Robertson (a contemporary of John Stockton).

Cook is long and lean at 6-6/190, but plays strong on both ends. He can guard multiple positions on the defensive end because of his versatility. Cook is averaging 16ppg, 6.3rpg and 2.2apg in only 19.6 minutes per game. Not only is he extremely productive during those 20 minutes, he is also shooting the ball at an extremely high percentage (64.6%). When talking with Cook today, he said he didnít have a clear cut favorite and will narrow it down when the season begins to wind down.

If he's half as good as Elgin Baylor.........

updated stats

21.9 mins 15 pts, 6.2 RBs, 61.4% FG%, 20% 3pt, 1.8 assist/gm, 1.1 BLK, 67% FT, 1.4 steals and 2.6 TO.

Team is 24-2 and 10-1 conf.

He really doesn't shoot the 3 -- is great driving and finishing around the hoop.

Sounds like a really good player. But does GU need another wing next year? Seems like if they're going to pick up a JuCo, it should be a big to replace Olynyk/Harris.

What year is he? He's a frosh at a juco now. Is he 2013 or 2014?

2013. Three years of eligibility.

Lots of wings, er... pardon the expression... waiting in the wings for GU. Does he project as better than Coleman, Dranginis, Barham, et all?

Is Angel Nunez eligible to play at the start of next season for us?

I assume Coleman would play a lot at the 3 and 2, along with Dranginis... and we still would have Barham for one more season

Nunez will be eligible when finals are completed in December.

google him. he's had some issues including academics. maybe things are better now....

I see the Zags moving back into the style of play they showed during the 2008-09 season, but hopefully they'll be able to have a couple strong post players to balance that out. Karnowski seems like he'd be good with that set up once he develops, and then Edwards has the frame to do it if he can work himself into great shape and hone his skills. I just don't want to see another group of guys who are more 3s than 4s trying to man the post.

A hot junior college recruit, Elgin Cook will head west this weekend to visit a couple schools.

A 6-6, 215-pound small forward for Northwest Florida State College, will visit Oregon for its game on Thursday and then head to Gonzaga Saturday to watch them play.

Cook, who has three years of eligibility after this year, is also considering offers from Arkansas, Illinois, New Mexico, South Carolina, TCU and VCU.

Cook was a high school star from Milwaukee, Wisconsin who was at one time committed to Iowa State before coming to Northwest Florida State.

Elgin is quite a nice player. I'm being told he is very good. What stands out to me is his FG%. Over 61%. Nearly Olynyk-esque.

wow as a football coach, I look at his athleticism and go wow! If he can handle the classroom and buy into the program, he could be what the program needs moving forward. I see lots of sportscenter highlights in his future with whatever school he picks.

Yet only 20% from 3. He must have a great mid range game.

Slasher. We'd nickname him Freddy Krueger. :)

with harris and presumably olynyk leaving and the jump shot loving dower replacing, the zags will likely go back to a more perimeter oriented game next year. nunez with his injury is still a big question mark so it makes sense to find replacements for hart and edi.

unless the big pole becomes dominant in the post, zags will need additional big wings who can penetrate and/or get their own shot...coleman is a start but he's more of a 2 than a 3.

Would be a great get...but, Barham, Dranginis, Nunez, Coleman...not sure how this would fit in our lineup. Elgin could be a small 4. Seems minutes would be tough to come by.

I was kind of hoping we would go after a big, but will see, Elgin is obviously a superior athlete and would be nice to have.

If he's half as good as Elgin Baylor......... That would be about 14 points and 10 rebounds per game...

If KO does leave and we do not get another big, then maybe they are looking at playing a primary lineup of one big and four athletic guards/wing. Then use the two bigs in the second half, if no foul trouble. It would then mean we would need immediately, two or three 6'6"/6'7" to play with KP and Dower. Just a thought.
