I can't read the article. But Small seems to be a nice talent, and still has 2 more years of Highschool, we could see a much bigger improvement as well.

I would like to Small coupled with a guy like Alberts or Perkins...although I haven't heard a peep on Alberts, not sure if we have sinced cooled on him.

BobZag
02-06-2013, 11:14 AM
If I'm Few, I offer during his visit.

"A bird in the hand..."

I don't think that would jeopardize our chances for Perkins, et al.

Small would compliment Perkins or Alberts very well.

This kid is already a Zag at heart-- lets get the commitment thingy out of the way before he blows up even more.

2012-2013 stats --Sophomore- -His teams leading scorer-- so he gets the other teams top defender night in and night out.

20.9 pts 3 Assists 5.8 Rebounds 4.6 steals

Overall 52% from the field -- 2pt 60% and 3pt 30% with FT 72%

Listed at 6' and 170 lbs

Team is 8-0 in their conf.

Last Game 2/2 his line was 18 pts, 8 Assists, 12 rebounds, 6 steals, 1 TO

"He's a Gonzaga fan," his father said. "He wants to go to Gonzaga. He just likes Mark Few's offense and the guards that come out of there are really good."

"Small is a solid looking point guard with an advanced feel for the game as well as a terrific skill set. He is a pass-first lead guard who can thread the needle with an interior pass or throw the skip pass while attacking the zone. Despite his youth he runs the pick and roll effectively and usually makes good decisions. He changes speeds very well and his pull-up game is impressive to boot...Small has a decent frame, but he'll have to pay attention to his weight because he possesses the body-type that may get too thick-thus losing his quickness and speed. His speeds is solid, but he is not a burner and will need to continue to learn how to changes speeds to keep defenders off balance. He needs to continue to learn how to manage a game and continue to work on his pull-up game and consistency on his jump shot. Small is one of many outstanding point guard prospects in the class of 2015. If he continues to develop his overall game management, keep his body in great shape, and become a knock-down shooter, he will be a priority for Division I coaches."

Reminds me of a young Junior Cadougan (Marquette guard) in that he seeming has all the tools at a young age. Junior is a nice Pg who at one stage was rated higher than Kabongo and Kris Joseph. Love him to be a Zag.

When did Kelly have his growth spurt....as a sophomore?

Kendall is 5'11-6' now as a soph-- he could add a couple of inches over the next 2.5 years before he starts to play for the Zags.

To heck with that. Hey Dad build him a rack and let's stretch him to 6'2". Could probably do it in a couple years on the rack. ;)

Wants to be a Zag and his numbers are nothing to sneeze at, sign him up coach.

I think he is the recruit that is going to visit in February. He would come when the Zags have a home game. (Feb. 8-10) (Feb. 22-24)

Small gets a steal mid court at about the 22 sec mark and shows some athleticism with the dunk. Not bad for 6" ft. Shows todays date for the game.

As far as height goes, I think it is a VERY safe assumption that a high school sophmore at 6' is going to grow at least another 2 inches. I would be shocked if he didn't. Even without the "rack".

Height matters, but you always have to balance pure height against actual skills. Plus, he may still grow another inch or two.

I hope we make an offer to Small soon.

"Kendall Small possesses a solid pull-up shot and can hit three’s when needed. The two most important things about the California PG, however, are his burst and handles. He has the right amount of burst and video game-like handles. Small is at his best in transition, and he is an above-average passer with arguably the best handles of any point guard in California in the 2015 class.

The rising 2015 PG is a sleeper for some analysts, and Small has certainly been impressing Arizona’s coaches this summer. Bigger teams are starting to take notice, and this recent offer from UConn proves it. The Huskies would love to add a player like Small, who has speed, handles, can pass, and is physical enough to make up for a lack of height."

http://fansided150.com/2012/08/02/basketball-recruiting-connecticut-offers-kendall-small/

What impresses me about Small is his leadership-- he is one of the co-captains as a sophomore--on a team that has 12 upper classmen.

He is leading his team as a sophomore in pts 21.3, FG% at 54%, 2nd in RBs per game at 6.2 and is top on his team in steals with 4.7.

Tomorrow he has a very tough game as he takes on Tyler Dorseys team in the quarter finals.

zag67
02-21-2013, 05:43 PM
I agree with BZ. That is what I think that they are waiting for. Then seeing the team and the chemistry, this would help him understand us. Remember he is a sophmore and you want him to be sure of his decision and not to second guess it later. He seems to want to come here and I think that we want to show him how we feel about him first, then make the offer.

Doubt Small was here on a Wednesday. When he visits is usually when the offer is pushed.

" Have we had kids verbally commit as sophomores?"

If my memory is correct 2 guys come to mind
1) Brock Osweiler--went on to play football at ASU
2) David Pendergraft--went on to become one of the all time Zag favorites

The problem with very early verbal commits is that they are not binding on the PSA and it may give rise to a certain amount of buyer's remorse with lots of time to change ones mind.

Kendall Small had 12 poiints as his team lost a close one to St. John Bosco. Great season for the Sophomore.

St. John Bosco is loaded with talent: 4 star recruit Isaac Hamilton had 43 points, 4 star Daniel Hamilton, 4 star Tyler Dorsey, and 3 star Devin Burleson.

Here's a link with video of Small and the game.
