Steven Gray vertical leap = 40"!

Sent by a friend of mine from an email thread to the Bainbridge HS BB team

"For those curious about what Steven Gray is up to...
Since July 1, he is taking classes at Gonzaga, so his "in-season" work load is reduced. He is in the classroom from 8AM to noon, lifting weights from 1-3PM and playing hoops from 7-11PM. He is very excited about his possibilities of playing a lot of minutes next season and the coaching staff believes that Steven along with Austin Daye (California) and Robert Sacre (Vancouver, BC) are the best and most talented freshmen they have had at Gonzaga. Steven tested 2nd on the team in the vertical jump measuring in at 40 inches.

I didn't know he had that kind of jumping ability. I thought he was more of a perimeter shooter. Sounds like he can work a little closer to the basket if need be.

I'm willing to bet that the top spot belongs to Ira. And I'm starting a pool for the number. I will say 44 inches. Winner gets...bragging rights for a day.

My gosh.....This team is just going to entertain the heck out of us and America.
    I miss Mike Hart

Anyone who saw the Bainbridge clip on Youtube that was linked to a while back saw that putback that Gray did - he really got up. I had no idea his leap was anywhere near 40" though - WOW.

        Also Amazing

A friend of mine was running a camp last year, and they were working on improving veritcals, and testing the kids. Stacy Clinesmith, who played her high school ball in Spokane, and had about four years in the WNBA was helping him train. He told me that he turned to Stacy and said, "What can you do" So she tried it, and did 36 inches. That was from a standing still position, just crouch and leap. And bear in mind that Stacy is only about five foot five I think. If you have ever seen her play in Hoopfest, it is a real treat. And, I might add, that Stacy is a wonderful person, really nice.

          42

Ira was measured at 42 inches.

Of course that could've been an off day

Was Pargo there that day? Because he has got to be close based on this.

Those are fun videos, pbriz. Thanks.

Still my favorite photo of Steven, featuring powerful legs:

                  vertical's sweet ...

but what I look forward to is Gray doing his part to replace DRav's dead-eye perimeter shooting. If he can come in and help draw defenses away from the paint, it'll be so much easier for Pargo and Bouldin to penetrate or feed Heytvelt. This team's depth and balance will be it's biggest strength, I think.

                    RE: Gray

Gray is much quicker than reported. If he gets that beautiful jumper down to a science and with his ability to get to the hoop he will eventually leave Gonzaga as one of its best.

He could be a top 15 pick in some future NBA draft

Gray needs a nickname. I'm not sure I can go an entire GU career referencing him as Steven. If he doesn't have one, what better place then a bunch of Zag fans in front of their computers to come up with something great.

                        Just think

How good Gray could be if he had a decent high school coach while at Bainbridge....
