View Full Version : National Gonzaga Day - January 24, 2013

12-12-2012, 07:54 PM

On Jan. 24, Zags everywhere will unite in spirit and gather in person to celebrate 125 years of GU.

The Zag spirit will be strong as the men's basketball team takes on BYU at home and the women face Pepperdine on the road. Whether you're an alum, parent, student, employee or casual fan, you're invited to join the celebration! Here's how:

* Share how you'll celebrate and enter a prize drawing at NationalGonzagaDay.org (http://www.gonzaga.edu/beinspired/125/events/national-gonzaga-day.asp)

* Wear your Zag gear

* Attend one of more than 30 events around the U.S. (including Spokane) featuring a game watch, prizes and University updates

* Watch a special live webcast from McCarthey Athletic Center at the start of the men's halftime (approx. 9 p.m. PST, Jan. 24)...

( Seen on the GU Facebook page )

Our apologies to all who were startled by the fireworks at Gonzaga last evening. We apologize for the disturbance and hope the Spokane community will understand the exuberance behind the celebration of Gonzaga’s 125th Anniversary year. It is a privilege for Gonzaga to be part of this city and we wanted to share the excitement over this milestone with everyone.

Thanks to the generosity of a donor, we confirmed the opportunity to have fireworks only a couple weeks ago. Since then, we spread word through media interviews, press releases, website, social media and flyers. All major media were informed about the fireworks plan at least a week prior to the event, and several TV and radio stations, as well as the weekly and print newspapers, shared information about the festivities.

We regret that all residents did not received word, and again, hope you will accept our apologies. Thank you for your continued support.

re: the new student center, this was in the President's email on 1/25:

Provided our remaining fundraising efforts are successful, the new University Center could break ground as early as this year. This leading edge facility will serve as a hub for intellectual, creative and spiritual activity befitting an exemplary Jesuit institution in the 21st century.
