Reportedly looking to catch on with Chorale Roanne in France Pro A, the same league as JP Batista and Le Mans.

Steven Gray is on tryout with Chorale Roanne, as reported by Le Progres. The American player spent last season in Latvia with BK Ventspils averaging 9.9ppg in the domestic league and 12.3ppg in Eurochallenge. Gray might replace Alan Voskuil in the French team.

Howie Stalwick reports that Steven has indeed signed with Roanne.

Steven Gray, a young man who has always enjoyed what life has to offer on and off the basketball court, is taking his inquisitive mind to France.

Gray, the former Chimacum and Bainbridge prep standout, has signed with a team in the small central France city of Roanne (pop. 45,000). Roanne plays in France's top pro league.

Gray, who had successful four-year career at Gonzaga, turned pro in Ventspils, Latvia, last season. The 6-foot-5 guard then played for Washington in the NBA's Las Vegas Summer League and went to training camp with the Wizards, but he was waived prior to the season.

"Steven is one of those guys who loves life," John Spencer, Gray's agent, said in a phone interview Monday. "He's one of those guys who really enjoys culture, so this gives him an opportunity to go out and explore the things you can (otherwise) only read about in a book.

"He's happy. He's very happy."

Done deal, it looks like. From Eurobasket (http://www.eurobasket.com/France/basketball.asp?NewsID=299662):
horale de Roanne Basket (ProA) signed 23-year old American point guard Steven Gray (195-93kg-89, college: Gonzaga).

Gray managed to play in four leagues last year (!!!). He played last season at BK Ventspils in Latvian LBL league. In 23 games he had 9.9ppg, 1.8rpg, 2.5apg and 1.2spg. He helped them to make it to the final after they ended regular season as second best team. A very impressive season as he was named to Latvian League All-Star Game. Gray also played 15 games in EuroChallenge where he recorded 12.3ppg, 2.9rpg and 2.1apg. He contributed to his team making it to the quarterfinals. Gray also played 2 games in Eurocup where he recorded 5.5ppg, 2.5rpg and 1.5apg. And finally he contributed to 18 games in Baltic League where he recorded 10.9ppg, 1.9rpg and 2.1apg.
The list of the past achievements is quite long as Grays college team won WCC Tournament in 2009 and 2011. He was also voted NABC Division I All-District 9 1st Team in 2011.

Gray graduated from Gonzaga University in 2011 and it will be his second season as a professional player.

Looking forward to seeing Steven playing for Roanne when they meet Asvel Friday, the 14th. Live Stats will be here (http://www.lnb.fr/).

Note: I see elsewhere he's not expected to play until the team meets Gravelines-Dunkerque on Dec. 22. (Team schedule here (http://www.lnb.fr/fr/Pro-A/200003/Calendrier-Resultats/?team=552&saison=2012).)

Wow! 17 points for Steven in his first game for Roanne, as Roanne loses to Gravelines-Dunkerque 68-58 (http://www.lnb.fr/fr/Pro-A/200009/Resultat-match/6851/Gravelines-Dunkerque-Roanne). He was 4 of 6 from three.

Looks like Roanne got short-hair Steve.

Over the 4 games he's played so far at Roanne, Steven leads the team with 54 points. He's made 14 out of his 24 three-pointers.

Steven had 12 points, 3 steals, 2 rebounds, & 1 assist in Roanne's 80-67 win over Le Havre on Saturday. The win had extra importance as it earned Roanne a spot in next month's Leaders Cup (a single-elimination tournament involving the top 8 teams at the halfway mark of the French Pro A regular season).

btw, Butler's Matt Howard is one of Steven's teammates. So hopefully Steven gets some braggin' rights this weekend...

Steven had a big game yesterday vs. Dijon, scoring 14 points with two assists in the 68-66 win (http://s.lnb.fr/lnb/file/201301/CDF13ROADIJ.pdf). Roanne will play against JP Batista's LeMans club in the 8th Finals of the Coupe deFrance at Disneyand Paris on Feb. 15 at 4:00 am Pacific (1:00 Paris time).

A couple of really neat pics from the game vs. Dijon:

Here's some highlight video from the game with Le Havre (http://www.chorale-roanne.com/?id=10), showing Steven seeming to have some fun! He's #11 in light blue.

Steven playing well in the quarter-finals of the playoffs for the French Pro A, with 18 points on 6-9 three-point shooting in the game against Chalon on May 16, where his Roanne team tied the series 1-1. Box Score for Roanne's 84-72 win (http://www.eurobasket.com/boxScores/France/2013/0516_417_878.asp).

I liked this pic from the game:

This highlight video from the game (http://www.lnb.fr/fr/LNB-TV/1000002/Video/3507/Playoffs-Pro-A-Quart-de-finale-retour-Roanne-vs-Chalon) is fun too, with lots of call-outs for #11 Gray (light blue) shooting, stealing, and assisting.

Last game of the quarter-finals tomorrow, May 18.

Season is over for Steven, as Chalon batters Roanne 91-63 (http://www.lnb.fr/fr/Pro-A/200009/Resultat-match/8009/Chalon-Saone-Roanne). Steven had a poor outing, with just 2 points on 1-7 shooting.
