Does anyone have any firm dates for 2013 Maui Invitational.
I can't find anything on their web site.

Traditionally, the Monday-Wednesday immediately before Thanksgiving Thursday. Next year, that falls on November 25th-27th.

Dayton is currently selling hotel & ticket packages (http://www.daytonflyers.com/news/?article_id=9110) for those dates.

Dates are Nov 25 - 27, 2013. As always, advance tickets are almost impossible to buy for non-package tourists coming from the Mainland. But take a chance and come to Maui without tickets. You will not be disappointed.

In my uninformed opinion the field for the 2013 Maui Classic is not very strong. It would be nice to see GU play Kentucky or UNC or another major power, but we don't have that opportunity this cycle.

Our clan is planning on the trip this year and we are going to be following 75's advice. Many condos are available in the West Coast of Maui (last stayed up in Kapalua on the Ritz property) and we are planning on something similar this trip. Then we will work to get enough tickets at the Event Center.

As far as the competition, the 2013 bracket is not available yet:

But I could see Gonzaga playing both Baylor and Syracuse in some order. With both their recruiting and conferences they could be just as good a game as participating this year with Texas and UNC.

I will be hoping for a Syracuse final and handing their Zone some revenge.

I just took a look for 2013 recruiting for Maui teams. Arkansas, Baylor, and Syracuse are all in the Top 15:

So instead of going with the normal package deal, you just fly in on your own and stay at a condo? I assume this saves quite a bit of money? Or do you do this because you prefer staying at a condo?

For those of you planning ahead, here is a link to the Maui site that appears to be selling tickets (for 2012) with no travel package required. You might keep this link in mind and try back to see if it is still active next summer for 2013 tickets although the prices are at least 5 X the price at the venue itself.

We have NEVER purchased advance tickets but have NEVER missed a Maui game we wanted to see. There are usually more ticket resellers than actual fans at the event site. I am sure certain teams can change the dymanic (like UNC or KY) but for most teams there are always plenty of tickets.

75Zag,

What is included in the "package" and do you have an idea what it might cost? Wondering if we need to start saving our "change" right away or...

Thanks in advance!

Sorry I am not a good source on package trips, but it looks like the official organizer is selling packages at about 2000 per person double occupancy (which I assume does NOT include airfare). We have a place in Maui and we use frequent flyer miles or cheap tickets to get back and forth from home to Maui, so usually the only issue for us is food (Lahina Safeway has world's best and cheapest fresh raw tuna and other delicious treats) and then of course buying tickets to the GU games.

I think there will be plenty of packages available either through the Maui Classic organizers or perhaps through GU, but probably not until after Feb or March of next year. Here is this year's package link: http://mauiinvitational.com/sites/default/files/2012%20EA%20SPORTS%20Maui%20Invitational%20FIT%20P ackage.pdf

Good luck and Aloha!

Hey WooHoo,

It's actually a little of column A and B. Many condos will be near resorts, so you actually pay a resort fee to have run of the resort (pools/beaches/food), but the prices of the condos can be quite less (especially if you choose to stay on the garden or golf sides) than the rooms in the resort. With a condo you lose some conveniences of the room in the rosort (room services) but you get a full kitchen/living room/lanai and other cool stuff. When we stayed at Kapalua we walked quite a bit, but for the older or (ahem, my wife) uncomfortable shoe wearers, there is a bunch of free shuttles that cruise around the property and will pick you up. Otherwise, everyone in Maui has to rent a car and you will be driving off the walkable/shuttle grounds to go to the game and see the sites.

The prices can also be lower if you are travelling with family/friends because many of the condos are quite large and you can find multibed/bath to fit more people and split up the condo rate.

Let me know if that answers your question...

I hesitate to draw out this thread, but for those considering condos on Maui to attend the Maui Classic, one of my partners recently (last month) rented a condo in Maui via some sort of West Coast peer-to-peer rental arrangment. I know nothing about it, but apparently my partner rented a condo near the Whaler from an oral surgeon in Bellevue and they both avoided the managment fee surcharges. My partner was extremely satisfied.

I don't want to waste bandwith here, but I can pass along my partner's rental contact and experience if helpful.

I have no financial interest in this post - other than perhaps proving I am an idiot, which could affect my future finances.

Go Bulldogs!

Thank you both for your info and advice. I was doing a fair amount of research today, and I'm thinking this trip may have to wait a few years!!

Someone forgot to tell me that having kids can really put a dent in your wallet! Haha

Thanks again

Do you have a spare room for me to bunk in? I am small. I can be quiet.
