He seems to have arrived under the radar. Is he a walk-on? What is his story? Would he have been offered a walk-on spot if Sarbaugh had stayed? Are there other practice players that may some day acheive walk-on status?

Rem is from Mark Morris in Longview and couches son. See more at the previous thread.

This excerpt was posted via Zagaholic's (http://www.zagaholic.com/2012/09/player-profile-rem-bakamus-walk-on.html) blog:

So who is Rem Bakamus? We know he is on campus and expected to walk-on for this upcoming season, but what else do we know about him?

Rem is a 511, 145 pound guard out of Longview, Washington. He attended Mark Morris High School where his dad was head coach.

Accolades:
2012 2A All-State Roster
Greater St Helens League MVP
First Team All Area
Mark Morris High School Most Inspirational
LCC All Star Game Selection

Notable Performance: In January, Rem Bakamus led his Mark Morris team to the 2A Greater St. Helens League Championship with a 25 point performance, 20 of which he scored in the second half. He hit six three pointers in the second half so it appears he knows how to connect from behind the arc.

Small town kid, small HS, small kid, big personality. Fitting in well with the team -- on & off the court. That's all we know for now.

I predict he will play less than five minutes total this year and that's not a knock. He isn't under the radar, his skill set does not appear to be division one level. My speculation is that he understands that his contribution will be in practice and in this way will be a valuable part of the team.

Kind of like Ammo and the Lakers.

Kind of like Ammo and the Lakers.

Speaking of Ammo, in a interview posted on another thread, said he needed to make the Blazers to provide for his family. But if he was the #3 overall pick he got a guaranteed contract worth millions that year. Should be enough to provide for his family for the rest of his life. Doesn't make sense.

Nobody dumped. Nothing negative just facts. He sat on the bench for the Lakers and made millions. Nothing wrong with that. I was just wondering why he states he still needs money. I too think the man has heard enough criticism.

Just curious, but does anyone know what percentage agents usually take?

I prefer to seeing him as the new Andrew Sorenson, great guy to have on your team.

This thread just got dumb.

I agree. Wasn't expecting it to take this turn. I was more questioning professional athletes obscured perception of reality after making millions. But insinuating he has a gambling problem because you've SEEN him at casinos? Sorry that's really lame.

I predict he will play 0 minutes this year...because he's redshirting. :p
Rem may be small, and he may not be an amazing recruit, but I do think he can eventually contribute to our team. He's a coaches' son, so he knows the game. He was probably well aware when he joined the team what his role would be, and honestly he probably is in it more for the love of the game than to earn minutes. I'm sure he will be working hard to get better, especially with the motivation to get the opportunity to play, and he may surprise us. (Maybe he'll sprout another inch or two! :D ) Anyways, since he's not on scholarship, we don't have much to lose. Who knows, he could end up being a walk-on who contributes just as much as Mike Hart and David Stockton do.
Just my two cents. :)

We have 2 McDonalds', 2 Burger King's and a Jack-in-the Box. True, we have no Carl's Jr. or Olive Garden, not to mention Red Lobster or Outback, but to call Longview small?

And Kelso (the better city next door :)) has the Red Lobster!

Bill, Rem's dad, is a great coach. He's not just a coach's son, but a very good coach's son. Even if he doesn't get much playing time, he will be an asset on the bench and in practice. Guy's don't always have to be in the game scoring points to be a positive influence on the team. Rem will hold his own and I look forward to seeing him on the floor one day. Fans only see who makes it on the floor, it's all the backstage work we don't see, which is often the most important.

I guess if you see someone at a table everytime you visit Spokane you might think they are there when you are not in Spokane. I have beaten Adam many times at Texas Hold Em.

I never said he has a gambling problem, i just said i see him in casinos alot.
So i guess i am in casinos alot when i am in town.

I think we're reading way way way too much into an interview that presented short video clips without the question or context. Unless there is a different video than the one I saw Adam said "I mean, it's how I provide for my family........it's my job." He didn't say I need this job to pay off debts, or if I don't get this job I'm in trouble.

Since this thread was originally about Rem Bakamus, here's an article about him that appeared in Thursday's edition of the Gonzaga Bulletin.

http://www.gonzagabulletin.com/sports/article_a05a6786-23ab-11e2-b93d-0019bb30f31a.html

It seems to confirm that he will be redshirting this year.

idk, but Adam probably only saw 4-5 mill of the 10 mill guaranteed contract, he recently bought a home on a large plot of land...im sure hes gone through most of it with travel, living expenses, etc. plus hes got a family now. If he really, really needs the money he can make some in europe playing or he might be able to go get a job as an assistant coach somewhere...I feel bad for the guy, he could have been an NBA star, things just didnt fall well for him.
