Thanks for the link, ZagG.

I realize its technically an Old Dog, yet this is worth linking to the Men's Hoop page as an "OT".

Pretty big news, imo.

Go Keita! (was always a big time fan of his game and performances).

Everytime he was given a chance, he displayed his talent, IF he could have remembered the playbook, the kid could have been starter-worthy and the Coaches said as much...they let him start a few games and he performed admirably, yet just couldn't recall the plays on the court, which hurt his chances of addt'l PT.

He'll do a terrific job and have a great career at IUP.

Same with Manny Arop, who is a projected starter at SF for Indiana St as well.

Great pic of Mathis and story about the game.

Three different IUP players scored in double-figures during the comeback, with Mathis Keita (Thionville, France/Insep) netting 17 points, Marcel Souberbielle (Montevideo, Uruguay/Uruguayan American School) 13 and Blake Vedder (Chesterland, OH/West Geauga) 12.

The rally started right after the break as IUP opened with the half's first five points, including a breakaway dunk by Keita that helped ignite the crowd. After a pair of free throws by Bowie State's Najee White, the Crimson Hawks used a three-pointer by Devante Chance (Philadelphia/Electrical & Technology Charter) to start an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to 41-37 less than four minutes into the second half.

Keita finished with a team-high 22 points on 5-of-10 shooting, making 11-of-13 at the foul line. He added nine assists in 39 minutes on the floor.

Mathis stats: 1 rebound, 3 fouls, 22 points, 9 assists, 4 turnovers, 1 block, 1 steal in 39 minutes.

Here's a nice interview with Mathis (http://no-brain-no-play.org/2013/01/interview-mathis-keita-january-2013/). Classy kid.
You are leading the West-PSAC and you are the top-leader of your team at scoring, rebounds and assists, you are already well fitted in your new teamÖ How do you feel about to be a leader ?

At this point, I donít think about it, Iím just trying to enjoy playing basketball. The Coach and my teammates give me confidence so itís easy to me.

Do you miss this status in Gonzaga ?

For sure. In Gonzaga, the coach didnít trust in me so it was hard to play. In addition, competition in the team was tough so I didnít got the same playing time.

You are an all around player. Do you feel you improve your game this year ?

I feel again the game, i think getting better and better everyday cause I have more responsibilities on the court, I can take more shoots than before. Even if I played not so much in Gonzaga, I worked hard at practice so it was a positive thing for my game this year.

You wore uniform of a prestigious university for two years, the Bulldogs. What has this experience brought to you ?

It was two great years and I think I progressed in my play as much as humanely. Moreover, Iíve met a lot of people who I appreciate and i keep it touch with.

Why did you choose IUP ? Do you know its reputation before coming ?

Firstly, I didnít want sit one year so go to a D2 School allows me to not spend a redshirt year . Then, the actual French assistant coach at Dayton, Adeniyi Amadou, used to play in this college and gave me some good feedback about IUP and its coach. And this school had participate at the final four three time in the row this past three years so I heard of this college thanks to that.

I would certainly expect him to be dominant in Division II. It is good that he landed in a good spot where he can play and pursue his education.

Win-win situation for him and IUP.
