Move this to Old Dogs if you wish, but I'm following stats for two games for Zag players right now:

Micah Downs, Boston Celtics vs. Milano: Stats here (http://scores.espn.go.com/nba/gamecast?gameId=400400466), on NBA TV right now (#416, or #630 HD Comcast Spokane). Celts lead 94-59, Micah is just about to enter the game. Go Micah! Hah! Right off the bat he gets a good block. He's #55.

Steven Gray, Washington Wizards vs. Charlotte Bobcats: Bobcats lead 51-39, with 1:31 left before the half. Steven has not entered the game. Stats here (http://www.nba.com/tvc/index.html?gamecode=20121007/WASCHA&brand=WAS).

Chance to see Micah Downs play today for the Celtics on NBA TV at 4:00 pm.

Story about Micah on ESPN (http://espn.go.com/blog/boston/celtics/post/_/id/4697895/plenty-of-upside-in-downs)
Plenty of upside in Downs

The box score following the Celtics' 98-95 overtime loss to the New York Knicks on Saturday showed three players tied for a team-high seven rebounds: Rajon Rondo, Jared Sullinger, and Micah Downs.

That's business as usual for Rondo and Sullinger, but Downs' inclusion on that list was a bit more surprising. He's billed as a pure shooter, with his jumper serving as the most lethal part of his game. But the 26-year-old Downs knows his preseason minutes, like his looks on offense, could be limited, so he branched out on Saturday, going after the ball whenever the Knicks missed a shot. Playing a preseason high 14 minutes, the 6-foot-8 Downs, who's more athletic than people probably realize, hauled in rebound after rebound, helping to secure possessions for the C's.

"That's just something I can try to bring to the table," Downs said of his rebounding. "If I'm out there on the court and I'm not getting my shot, I'm not getting offensive looks, I'm going to try to go get the ball, help our team one way or the other. Whatever I can do. My size, my athleticism, I think I can help out at that position when Paul [Pierce]'s not in the game or when Jeff [Green]'s not in the game, or if we're playing smaller and I'm playing at the four, whatever. Just trying to do everything I can to stick."

Downs wasn't shy on offense on Saturday, rifling off six shots, with two painstaking misses that found the rim and bobbled out, including a putback opportunity that would have given the Celtics a one-point lead with just over 10 seconds remaining in overtime.

"It's frustrating, but I've got to stay positive, just because I was in the right place," Downs said of the close miss. "I was making the right play. The next one will fall. It's just the way it is sometimes."

Downs, a camp invite for Boston, finished with five points on 2-of-6 shooting, to go along with his seven rebounds. Much like the unit he was playing with, Downs exhibited a youthful energy that certainly factored into his activity on the glass. It would have been difficult to not get caught up in the fourth quarter battle between the benches. With the crowd and the veterans of each team locked in, Boston overcame a six-point deficit to force overtime, but couldn't make it over the hump in the extra frame.

Celtics news (http://postups.celticsconnect.com/?source=101612):
If you haven’t heard the news, the Celtics made some roster moves about two hours ago. They decided to cut ties with guards Dionte Christmas and Jamar Smith. Both of those players have been waived and Boston’s roster now stands at 16 players.
Rivers told reporters that the Celtics do, in fact, plan on carrying a full 15-man roster once the season begins. This means that Joseph, Micah Downs and Rob Kurz are all in a threeway competition for the final two spots.

I still think Sacre has a lock on making the Lakers. He isn't a prolific scorer, but never was...he does rebound in bunches, clogs the middle while blocking shots and drawing fouls.
Ammo didn't play tonight, after 2-3 subpar performances. I only have gamecast, so don't know if his shot selection was based on desperation, out of the flow or exactly what was wrong. Just know that he hasn't shot well in the last few games and didn't play tonight.
Can't believe that Downs showing, and the minutes played, is enough to make the team. Same with Steven and the Wizards.
To be honest, not real sure about Pargo and the Cavs. He isn't being paid enough to stop them from eating his salary and dumping him. He is a streaky shooter (as is Ammo) and hasn't been streaking.
I still hope that Ammo gets a serious shot, that Rob makes the team and that Pargo/Daye are allowed to show their worth. I believe that Macah and Steven could be an asset to almost any NBA team, but don't expect them to get a serious look.

Sure seems as if it would make sense for the Lakers to keep Rob as a true back up for Howard at center, and Hill as a back up for Gasol at PF. Three of the four players would be virtually interchangable (don't see Howard at the PF or Rob either when I think about it, but he could play alongside Howard if needed). Something like what the Zags will do this year. Wonder if Few should call Brown to talk about it? NAH!!! Let them figure it out themselves! LOL

Lakers waive Chris Douglas-Roberts, Greg Somogyi

"Somogyi has potential as a 7-foot-3 center, but he needs seasoning and the Lakers have been impressed by Robert Sacre, taken by the club with the 60th pick in the 2012 NBA Draft.

The Lakers have 13 players under guaranteed contracts. Sacre seems a lock to make opening night although his contract doesn't become fully guaranteed until closer to January.

The most players a team can carry into the regular season is 15.

The final spot appears to be a battle between second-year guard Andrew Goudelock and rookie Darius Johnson-Odom. Coach Mike Brown has been trying to develop Goudelock as a point guard, but the team is stacked at that position. Ultimately Goudelock may simply be an undersized two-guard."

I'm looking forward to the Lakers-Clippers game on NBA TV tonight at 7:30, especially for the chance to see Rob's black eyes described in this piece (http://sulia.com/channel/la-lakers/f/7128c6b1-98ee-4a1c-a172-5cb691564db9/?source=twitter):

So, Robert Sacre has two black eyes after getting hit in the face at practice this week. Here's the story ...

I had to ask Mike Brown how his favorite Gonzaga rookie got those shiners. Take it away, Mike:

"He got a good one in practice the other day. But, you know what? He got hit and he just kept playing. He just kept playing. He didn’t say a single word, then it started gushing with blood. He went and saw the trainer and they plugged his nose and they sutured his nose and he went back out there and kept playing the rest of practice. He didn’t miss a beat. And you know, you want to earn respect as a big, tough, strong guy – especially with this team or in this league – and that’s how you do it.

"After he got hit, he went back to continuing to play the same defense on Dwight (Howard). Nose in there and all.

"He thinks he’s pretty, that’s the only thing about it. He does think he’s pretty and well, that crooked nose is going to dispute that a little bit."

TURIAF AND HOLLINS MAKE SOLID PAIR OFF BENCH

In the preseason, though, big men Ronny Turiaf and Ryan Hollins, both offseason free-agent acquisitions, have gone somewhat unheralded despite carving a niche as an energetic and unique tandem behind starters DeAndre Jordan and Blake Griffin. .

“They’ve been solid,” Del Negro said. “Ronny really knows how to play, makes nice easy passes, shares the basketball, is in the right spot a lot. Ryan brings great energy, great length up front, runs the court well. I like the way he dives, flattens the defense for us. They have two different skill sets but they work well together.” .

The differences between the two are palatable. .

Hollins thrives on his athleticism, playing above the rim on offense and protecting it on the other end of the floor. The 6-foot-11 center has been the beneficiary of lobs from Chris Paul, Crawford, and Bledsoe, among others. He is one of three Clippers to appear in all eight games this preseason and led the team in blocked shots with 19, including four in Thursday’s exhibition finale against the Nuggets. .

In that game he also converted a free throw following a two-handed dunk off an alley-oop pass from Paul. It was his 14th consecutive make from line, a streak spanning the past four games. .

Turiaf, on the contrary, plays much more below the rim and away from the hoop than his wiry teammate. He scraps for rebounds, pulling down 10 or more in back-to-back games, and finds ways to take advantage of angles as a cutter and passer on the offensive end. .

“They’re completely different and that’s what we wanted for that second group,” Del Negro said. “Ryan does a good job running the court, setting screens. Ronny is very good at handling the basketball and going and getting it. I’ve been pleased with that combination.” .

For Turiaf, sharing the court with Hollins is about working together and playing off one another, using their distinctions as an advantage. It’s something they managed to do rather quickly considering they have been teammates for a little less than three months. .
