Sources say GU offered Graham Woodward

I know this comes as no suprise, but I saw a tweet on TSSF stating that we offered 2013 PG Graham Woodward out of Minnesota...I know we have already kinda hashed this discussion out.

but what do yall think our chances are that he comes to GU?

Also do you like the idea of Graham being a ZAG?

    Woodward

Id like him. He'd ideally redshirt and then back up pangos for a year and then run the show (with help from another future recruit) for 3 years. To me he looks like a rich man's Stockton. Stocktons passing/vision with the ability to finish and a better midrange game. You can win with that as your PG

      Interesting.

Didn't Woodward just return home from his 'official' visit to WSU?

Excited to catch a few games in person this Winter...

ps. I understand he had a big summer on AAU circuit, yet seems a bit on the short side (I think 5'11" should be a min requirement for starter material, in my opinion). Looks like he's received a couple offers from Ivy League schools & Minnesota has at least shown interest.

don't know much, but if they are offering him this early that's probably a good sign.

          You realize he's 2013 right?

I'd like him. He has some potential. I'd much rather have guys that are no longer in the running but oh well.

I hope our staff DID offer him. He's a bullet. Very much an athlete. Good shooter and good passer. His ballhandline is superb for his age. He's only 5 11 and 160 but he'll grow. I liked him one month ago and I hope he joins us. No doubt he has the talent to be a very good D1 PG.

So the bad news is he is 5'11" (maybe) and 160# (maybe) but the good news is that he is "still growing"?

If I was recruiting 8th grade point guards and found one that was 5'11 and "still growing" I would be very excited. Not so much on High School seniors. No disrespect to our current group of 6' (+/-) guards, but we need SIZE.

Question: When did Moms and Dads stop producing 6-5 Matt Bouldins and 6-4 Steven Grays? (Maybe the 2014 class? 2015?)

I like his game a lot. If he commits, great. We have a history of undersized guards doing fairly well here.

BUT the problem does come from there also being a history of undersized guards and teams not going very far in the long run but hey, thats recruiting. A couple 6'3 or 6'4 guards will show up sometime along the stretch and it'll work itself out cough* history of transfers

And if they could have hit jump shots, they would have been really good point guards. Both were limited by their mid-range/long-range offensive production.

A 5'10" bullet who can beat the defense down the floor, break down defenses with dribble penetration in half court sets, AND consistently hit three-pointers can do quite well in Division I basketball. If this kid can do all of that, sign him up.

If teh kid is a legit 5'11" that gives him the 6' listing on a roster sheet, even if he is 5'10" there have been loads, and I mean loads of guards that size that have been great college and pro basketball players.
Here are some past and present players all under 6'
                            TJ Ford
                            DJ Augustin
                            Bobby Hurley
                            Peyton Siva
                            Isaiah Canaan
                            Khalid El-amin
                            Bobby Jackson
                            Jacque Vaughn
                            Ty Lawson
                            Brevan Knight

I mean the list goes on and on.

                              Little Guards

                              My thoughts on little guards.

Recall the scene from an early Indiana Jones movie when Indiana Jones was trapped in an alley facing a little guy who had spinning moves and some sort of spinning weapons and Indiana Jones just stood there while the little guy did all his moves and showed all his weapons, and then Indiana Jones took out his gun and shot the little guy through the head?

I like to think about how a large guard - say Magic Johnson - would have faced off against one of GU's 6 foot (plus or minus) guards. GU's little guards could spin and display endless creative moves for about 3 minutes, and then Magic would have slapped them to the curb and done whatever he wanted to do.

                              SIZE matters in basketball.
