no more crutches as of today. he was able to coach his camp's team with them off to the side. his left leg is still wrapped tightly from mid-thigh to ankle and walking with a noticeable limp. not able to really bend/flex knee yet, should be much improved in a week or so. still not participating with kevin, gary, david, drew, kyle, guy, et al in pick-up games or limited practices. icing every chance he can get, elevated at night, trying to regain range of motion and 100% weight bearing -- not there but getting better every day. grade 1 sprain, should be 'good to go' in 2-3 weeks with no lingering effects. every sprain is unique, most full strength by week 6-8 with physical therapy, ice, flexibility, etc. should be fine by time school begins.

            MCLs vs ACLs

Medial collateral ligament sprians are rarely season ending whereas ACLs are. The knee is a pretty badly designed joint and tall folks have more torque than shorter people.

He should easily be able to rehab this. (Lots of PT with emphasis on quad strengthening exercises, particularly medial quad which stabilizes the joint). What is important, very important, is that they don't rush the process. While a small tear is rarely significant, a reinjury can be.

              Great news!

This should serve as a warning and positive reinforcement for the rest of the team how important staying healthy and safe is.

"Last 10 minutes of practice"!!! Kinda like the saying "Most accidents occur within a mile from our home".

Because you are done with the day, you think you are home free or you simply go all out to end the day. I am glad he will be OK and I think the other guys are reminded to always be safe and focussed, even with 1 minute left in practice!

but stuff happens and that is the game. Big boys land hard when they fall. That is the fact!

yep. I've torn mine before, 30 something years ago. Not a problem once healed even one time since, and they do all this stuff so much better today anyway

                great news indeed

If you have to ask you probably can't be told.

Probably, but through a blind trust!
