SENIORS BID FAREWELL: This weekend series against the University of Portland will mark the final home appearances for eight Gonzaga University seniors. Prior to Sunday's contest, the Bulldogs will honor outfielder Royce Bolinger (majoring in business administration with concentration in economics), catcher Maxx Garrett (sport management), right-handed pitcher/first baseman Andy Hunter (mechanical engineering), infielder Eric Lane (physical education), left-handed pitcher Ryan Leahy (mechanical engineering), right-handed pitcher Sean Santschi (business administration with concentration in finance) and infielder Alex Stanford (sport management). Left-hander Tyler Olson (sport management) has one year of eligibility remaining, but since he redshirted one season he is still deciding whether he will return for another season or not.

RECAPING LAST SERIES: Gonzaga University is coming off having been swept by now-No. 16 Arizona State University last weekend. The Sun Devils beat the Bulldogs by the scores of 4-2, 10-1 and 3-1. Sophomore Marco Gonzales led the effort in both pitching and hitting. The left-hander stretched all three base hits he recorded in the series into doubles and he threw a complete-game but allowed three runs on 10 hits and three walks in game three. Also at the plate, junior Clayton Eslick went 4-for-10 (.400) in the series to lead the Bulldogs. Senior Royce Bolinger also had four hits including a triple and a RBI. Senior Andy Hunter had a strong outing in game two, throwing six innings of relief and allowing one run on four hits and a walk while striking out six.

ZAGS IN THE WCC STANDINGS: Although Gonzaga University is in sixth place in the West Coast Conference standings with a 9-9 record, it is still in the hunt for the league championship with six games remaining. The Bulldogs got some help while they were in non-conference action last weekend as they now are only 3 1/2 games behind first-place University of San Diego, which dropped to 14-7 after losing two-of-three games at home to third-place Loyola Marymount University (11-7). The Toreros have this weekend off and will finish the regular-season at second-place Pepperdine University (12-6). The Waves will host the Lions in a critical WCC series this weekend. The Universities of Portland and San Francisco are both in front of the Bulldogs in the standings with a 12-9 record. The Pilots will be finishing the conference season against the Bulldogs this weekend, while the Dons will finish conference play at Saint Mary's College on Memorial Weekend. Behind the Bulldogs in the WCC standings are BYU (7-11), the Gaels (7-14) and Santa Clara University (3-15).

SCOUTING THE PILOTS: The University of Portland heads to Spokane having lost 12-4 at No. 20 Oregon State University Tuesday and 3-0 at the University of Washington Wednesday. While the Pilots have not been productive with the bats this season, they have been very successful with pitching. Two of the Pilots projected starters carry ERAs around 1.60. In his freshman campaign, Saturday starter Travis Radke is 7-3 and owns a 1.63 ERA and a 1.85 opposing batting average, both are second best in the West Coast Conference. Radke also leads the Pilots with 72 strikeouts. Friday's starter Kyle Kraus is behind Radke in the WCC ERA list with a 1.63 ERA. Offensively, oufielder Turner Gill is the only Pilot to be hitting over .300. He is currently hitting .306 with 10 doubles, a triple, four home runs and 24 RBI.

LAST TIME VS. THE PILOTS: Gonzaga University swept the University of Portland by the scores of 3-2, 7-5 and 5-2 in their previous meeting last season in Oregon. Sophomore Marco Gonzales went 7-for-10 (.700) with a double and three RBI throughout the series and in game three, he struck out seven batters and allowed one earned run on six hits and no walks. Junior Billy Moon was also productive at the plate, going 4-for-13 (.308) with a double and four RBI. Two of the Pilots projected starting pitchers this weekend started against Bulldogs last season. Friday starter Kyle Kraus started game one of last year's series and allowed three runs on nine hits, while striking out nine batters in 8 1/3 innings. Chris Johnson, game three's projected starter, allowed three runs on six hits in the series finale.

ON DECK: Following the West Coast Conference series against the University of Portland, Gonzaga University will make a day trip to nearby Pullman to take on Washington State University in the final game of the three-game season series Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. The Bulldogs and Cougars were scheduled to open the series March 20 but inclement weather forced the game to be postponed. Tuesday's contest also marks the final non-conference game for the Bulldogs, a three-game WCC series at BYU will remain on the 2012 regular-season schedule.

GREAT CROWD: The attendance this 2012 season will be one to remember for the Gonzaga University baseball team. The Bulldogs drew more than 1,000 fans in a game seven times this year, capped by the program record of 2,011 against Loyola Marymount University in the Bulldogs debut on ESPNU April 28.

ZAGS IN THE RPI: As of Monday, Gonzaga University fell 15 spots to No. 51 in the NCAA Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) standings, which is the third highest ranking among West Coast Conference schools behind the University of San Diego (No. 29) and Pepperdine University (No. 33). RPI rates every baseball club on a weighted scale taking into factors such as a team's winning percentage, its opponents' winning percentage and the winning percentage of those opponents' opponents. Among the Bulldogs non-conference opponents this year, the University of Oregon (No. 5), University of Arkansas (No. 18) and Arizona State University (No. 21) sit in the top 30...

Got to my 1st game in a few years today. Was fortunate to finally see Marco on the mound. He looked very good. He was also up against UP's #1, a big lefty Frosh out of Cal.

Zags did a lot of little things well, won 5-3.
