She's the first GU track athlete to qualify for the NCAA championships:


SPOKANE, Wash. (May 17, 2012 – http://www.gozags.com) – Gonzaga University sophomore Emily Thomas is officially in the NCAA Western Regional Track and Field Championship as declarations were made official Thursday.
Thomas will run the 10,000 meters, the first Bulldog – men or women – to compete in the NCAA Track and Field Championship.
The native of Washougal, Wash., qualified with her school record 35:01.36 at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival April 6.
The top 48 marks qualify for the NCAA Regional and Thomas has been sitting between 35 and 45 on the list of qualifiers. She enters the meet ranked 36th in the field. Deborah Maier of the University of California is the top qualifier with a time of 32:12.47.
The women’s 10,000 meter semifinal will be run at 7:40 p.m. next Thursday. The top 12 finishers qualify for the NCAA Championship June 6-9 at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.

I'm such a geek I actually had figured this out on my own prior to any press releases but I was too busy to get it posted.

Its very exciting for all of us old GU Tracksters!

CONGRATS EMILY! You've made us proud, now get down to Texas and do something amazing!

Emily ran 35:55, well off PR but finished 24th though seeded 36th. I'm guessing hot (humid?) conditions in Austin. Looks like she handle it better than a lot of folks.
