Gonzales Named To Olerud Two-Way Player Award Watch List
LUBBOCK, Texas - Gonzaga University baseball sophomore Marco Gonzales was named to the watch list for the 2012 John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award, as announced by the College Baseball Hall of Fame.
Gonzales, a first baseman and a left-handed pitcher, has compiled a 6-1 record with a 1.60 ERA in nine starts. He has 68 strikeouts and has limited opponents to a .197 batting average in 67 2/3 innings pitched. The Fort Collins, Colo., native is also having success at the plate, hitting .339 with five doubles, two home runs and 20 RBI.
The John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award, named for the Washington State University star who achieved success as both a first baseman and a right-handed pitcher, will be presented as part of the annual College Baseball Night of Champions on June 30 in Lubbock, Texas. The event features the presentation of numerous awards and the induction ceremony for this year's Hall of Fame class.
The ACC, Big 10, Big West, Southland and West Coast Conferences all have more than one representative on the list. Two schools -- Georgia Tech University and the University of Florida -- have two representatives on the list.
