Gonzales Named To Golden Spike Award 60-Man Watch List

DURHAM, N.C. - Gonzaga University baseball sophomore Marco Gonzales has been named to the USA Baseball 60-man midseason Golden Spikes Award Watch List Tuesday.

Gonzales, the reigning West Coast Conference Co-Player of the Year and Co-Freshman of the Year, owns a 5-1 record with a 1.35 ERA on the mound, while at the plate he carries a .326 average with five doubles, two home runs and 18 RBI. The Fort Collins, Colo., native is also the reigning WCC Rawlings Pitcher of the Week this week after setting career-bests 15 strikeouts in 11 innings pitched in the Bulldogs 1-0 12-inning win over Loyola Marymount University this past Saturday.

The watch list will continue to be a "rolling" list until May 29 -- when the final 30 semifinalists for the award are announced -- ensuring that athletes can play themselves into consideration for the award. The Golden Spikes Award trophy will be awarded live at MLB Network's studios for the second year in a row, with a presentation scheduled for Friday, July 6. Through USA Baseball's partnership with Major League Baseball Advanced Media (MLBAM), the presentation will also be simulcast with a live stream available from GoldenSpikesAward.com, MLB.com and USABaseball.com...
